Hello EVE totalitarians,

Auto-closing threads after 3 months is too short; I propose 6 months instead.

Three months of inactivity is lots. Most of these threads go off the rails long before then anyway…

Off-topic threads are manually closed; inactive ones awaiting info should stay open.

…Yes, for 3 months.

3 months is too short.

Respectfully, if there hasn’t been anything new in 90 days…

90 days isn’t much.

Restarting a thread after 3 months already feels like thread necromancy in many cases.

Some high-quality threads can last longer than some weeks and would benefit from the 3 months limit, but more is definitely not needed. In an exceptional case your high quality thread needs to be re-opened past this three months limit I believe it is possible to ask a moderator to do so.

Maybe it would be nice to get a dynamic auto-close time for threads.

For example any thread posted by Bakster Kane could be auto-closed within 3 days rather than 3 months without loss of quality.

Seeing the sheer amount of his threads that had to be manually closed in the past months, I believe that this could improve the quality of the forum.

FTFY

(Additionally the thread could be auto-hidden / unlisted as well.)

Some forum users derail threads to get them closed, which isn’t okay.

I agree that thread derailment can be annoying.

To prevent thread derailment it helps to be able to have civil and logical discussions to guide the threads in the right direction, which also requires the threads to have a direction, rather than being the third brain fart you had that day. Your threads often lack those aspects.

Including the OP himself being part of or the sole / primary reason of such problems in the first place.

  • Becoming defensive or outright aggressive when someone disagrees with him trying to discredit any (yes even legitimate and honest) posts simply because they don’t (100%) align with OP’s views is one example that often occurs.
  • Speaking of random brain movements, often OP posts random stuff in his own threads which derail them without even anyone else being involved in the process (while other times people reply to these as well).
  • Also do not help matters when OP engages in petty fights and drama, furthering any problem may it be offtopic posting, spamming or outright flame. There are measures to deal with these and it is not the mandate of average users to do so, clearly stated in the forum rules.

Just to name the usual suspects but probably there are even more. Learning from these mistakes might be helpful to OP.

And yes as @Gerard_Amatin wrote: the primary and most prominent and severe reason for OP’s threads devolving is his senseless random ideas that he never bothered to think about just post them as they pass his mind.

Then when even a surface level inspection reveals severe issues with the idea or concept presented OP reacts as if it is a personal attack (everyone who disagrees with me is a troll) instead of even considering the feedback, let alone engaging in a civil discussion about it.

I’m sure the above would be helpful to anyone reasonable, and this is why I’m expecting it not being helpful to OP as he is not reasonable, like ever, based on my experience with his posts.

Yeah I know, in his mind I am just saying this to attack him but this is just honest and genuine feedback, I do not remember a single post from him that I could consider reasonable.

Anyhow, OP and anyone else: make use of the above as you will. Fly safe o/
