Um, nope…
whats the point of them? who cares how many skills there are in group X.
I could tell you, but you haven’t trained enough Social skills…
You have some basic skills untrained in the Common Sense category, I see.
Behold, Chesterton’s Fence in action.
Without this number I could think you have like three times more gunnery skills trained than corporation management skills.
But when the first category has 5 skills and gunnery has 66 I now know you trained a lot more gunnery skills than corp mabagement skills, because I guess the latter has one level 1 while you have a whole bunch of guns unlocked and some even trained.
In other words, the numbers add value to the bars, which are incomparable otherwise. They are not just visual noise.
you lost me… I read what you write but how is this relevant?
I was today years old when I learned about Chesterton’s Fence. Fascinating. ![]()
Is this a question to me or to the OP?
I can explain what I said more: the skill window design shows players how many skills are completed with the bars behind the names.
But as the categories are not of the same size, these bars cannot be compared, so the window also shows the number of skills so we have a sense of the scale.
Of course the window could also function if the numbers and/or the bars were removed as a way to open the categories, but it would be a loss of information.
yeah, it was to you, thanks for more info. I understand how it works but I fail to understand what relevance this information has. I don’t see any use case why I would want to see how many out of how many skills I have. if those categories would somehow tell capital skills from subcap skills, that would be nice
(btw. I see the replies do not work how they used to work)
Each post has a small arrow pointing left. Thats the button you press to directly reply to someone. That person will have a notification. If you press the reply button at the bottom of the page, then you are replying to OP.
Now, the person whom you reply to, if they are NOT the last person to post, youll see their picture over there —>
As an example, i replied to you @Lara_Agnon , but this makes it seem as if im now replying to what gerard stated. His picture will be over there —> and he’ll be notified i replied to him.
You’ll get a notification that i mentioned you
The skill window fills two functions right now.
- One is to show a list of all categories, for which it uses names and icons.
- The other function is to show your skill progress, for which it uses bars and skill summation numbers.
I wouldn’t mind if the second function was deleted, I don’t use it much either, but I recognize this function exists, and that it needs to show the number of total skills in addition to the bars so that we can tell the bar of Structure Management (7) is only worth a fraction of Spaceship Command (91) when it comes to knowing how many skills you have trained yet.
Replies work, except in the case where the person you reply to is right above you in which case the forum assumes you are replying to them, automatically deletes quotes of them and does not show the usual ‘reply’ portrait.
It’s annoying, because this makes replies ambiguous as you cannot tell whether the reply was meant to the thread and OP, or to the latest post.
I saw a message you replied to me, but even that can mean you pressed the wrong reply button as both the thread reply and post reply have the same image and result in the same kind of post… the forum can be annoying.
So I figured I’d best ask!
OK, so I didn’t miss anything. I can’t remember how the old skill list actully looked like but in my memory it was much better ![]()
edit: and now I also get that forum thing that replies only look like replies when they are not directly under the post… so I’ll add the old forum also was better than this one ![]()
Yes, and it’s very annoying. You have to edit the quote back in, because the forum removes quoted content from your post automatically now, in some cases. I hate it, and I don’t understand why this is necessary.
