CSM Member Distribution

@Steve_Ronuken How much cash has been paid to you via Patreon over your 5yrs as CSM, for providing a 3rd party EVE/CCP external service? Or for securing your position by player interests?

And by whom?

Iā€™m incredibly concerned myself.

(Iā€™m getting about $40 a month from patreon. I have 2 servers, one which is costing about ā‚¬49 a month, and one costing about ā‚¬25 a month.)

If youā€™re looking for a net figure, Iā€™m several hundred quid (considering I only set up the patreon in the last year or two, itā€™s probably 4 digits. But I havnā€™t been paying attention to that) in the red on this. The funds which come in do not cover all the server costs.

So you have received $2400 dollars via Patreon, in the 5 years you have been elected as CSM?

Is that accurate?

Nope.

Because my patreonā€™s not been up for that long. And if youā€™re trying to make out Iā€™m making a profit on this, youā€™re incredibly bad at math.

I donā€™t think you get it yet. We are fishing for a tabloid style headline here Steve. Come on canā€™t you just say some buzz words we can quote for all eternity to discredit you these informative answers arenā€™t what we want

Once upon a time, absolutely. Those days were over several years ago already though. CSM nowadays is not hard to analyse for functionality and usage. It exists to serve CCP as a marketing + filter instrument. Nothing more, nothing less. That could still be useful, admittedly for low hanging fruit but still, unfortunately CCP also decided some years ago that CSM as a concept would be most beneficial to them as a special interests filter. They even got rid of a CCPian - who pointed out some issues with the mentality behind that decision - to push this through. Thereā€™s a remarkable difference in matters like these between a filter and an interests filter. One is a potential advocate, the other is only an advocate where it is allowed room to wiggle after feeding from the hand.

Itā€™s not rocket science. Itā€™s business.

CSM is very useful. Just, for CCP. The crumbs are for the interest filter subset. So obviously people invest in organisation to make the most of it, cause the odd crumb is still amazing considering economies of scale and the costs of continuity.

Sure, thereā€™s people who end up in the CSM because they want their thing, or their right thing, sometimes even the least worst thing for all. Most go quiet after a month or two. Of those that actually dare to go beyond a little turf :stuck_out_tongue:

It would make a lot more sense if people just stopped seeing CSM as something that belongs to them, or serves them. Once upon a time, that might have become the case. Another victim of the Summer of Rage.

That said, thereā€™s an odd little thing with the idea of vote / no vote. It doesnā€™t matter. If EVE still had the amount of warm bodies of say, a decade ago, that would actually be a factor. It hasnā€™t been one for quite a while now. The demographics are simple. Itā€™s just math.

There is no power. Except for CCP  Not the product level however. Those days have been over for quite a while too. Which is why weā€™re nowadays seeing renewed tripping over avoidable change issues. EVEā€™s real enough alright - even virtual history repeats itself :stuck_out_tongue:

Somehow, I suspect Iā€™ll forgive you on this.

(Do you think I should mention that when Iā€™m at the summits, Iā€™m tending to spend around Ā£500 of my own money on food and drink? Icelandā€™s an expensive country. CCP just cover the flights, hotel, breakfast, lunch and a dinner. and thatā€™s if youā€™re not eating out at lunch, which we normally did.)

In case you havenā€™t figured it out by now, you are responding to one of the worst sh*t-stirrers on the forum. Ignore the troll.

So? Your choice.

It isnā€™t a sacrifice or something like that. Itā€™s just that, a choice. You have expenses and costs anywhere. These give you stuff too. Experiences, adventure, friends, etc.

I donā€™t think this is a door that really should be opened, regardless of whether it is for pun or argument. It never ends well.

Actually I think what you really need to declare is how many goon beers you have accepted. How many beers deep are you in goons pockets anyways Steve?

Way to ingraciously ā– ā– ā– ā–  on CCP for paying your flights, hotel stay, breakfast, lunch and dinner, in a very expensive country, with our sub money.
