I set myself the goal to keep up with this cruiser without having to rely on webs. The idea being that if I could chase & shoot it down at high speed I wouldn’t have to worry much about tanking the other frigates. Basically ignoring them altogether.
So I went for a sustainable high DPS/ high-speed fit. Having tried many fits, at some point I ended up with a 2000 m/s Stabber, immune to the AI’s warp scrambling. And that’s when I started to notice weird game behavior. Even though I could sustain a speed that was superior, somehow the AI was still keeping me at bay for at least 10 km.
At first, I thought this had to do with my oversized afterburner that plummeted my agility. But when I tried to do the same with an Executioner frigate for testing, that’s when I really started to notice this weird, glitchy, gamey behavior of the game to cheat you into a 10km distance.
In my book, that’s just horrible game design and I can’t believe the devs are relying on lazy, cheap glitchy mechanics that simply don’t belong in a serious spaceship game.
Thanks, that clears it up a bit… but I didn’t see glitchy mechanics personally, and I’d attribute the comment about mobile games to being salty bittervet. Take a break for a few months, maybe?
I could easily outrun it with MWD though, and as soon as it’s in web range, it’s toast. Don’t really see the point in using overcomplicated methods, the sites are esstremely boring. Also, my first method was 2 synced caracals with RLMLs with enough applications mods to hit it with full dmg, worked decent enough but still sucks compared to simply webbing the bastard.
P.S. if anyone interested in a very cheap fit (solo or 2-man) for cruiser sites, PM me
I get that this event was more or less designed to have you either use webs or shoot from a distance. But this is Eve Online, the game shouldn’t completely shut down different playstyles that players always come up with, with downright bulllshit game mechanics.
What is your turn radius at 2500 m/s the cruiser can turn pretty well at speed so eve drones have a hard time catching up, a web drone goes 1800 and the cruiser goes 1700 and my ishtar goes 1600 it still takes a while cause the web drone takes forever to even web the damn thing for me to catch up. Plus the cruiser doesnt fly straight away it does an arc so you you cant turn as well it slows you down.
I agree they made the cruiser to hard it leaves a lot of people out, they should make the frigs drop skins to, they are even a bit harder than they should be to kill as well.
The cruiser is easy in a proper ship. This sure effin’ beats AFKing VNIs shooting that cruiser 23.5\7
I actually had trouble finding enough sites to run (and that even includes one I stole from using my stabbah) before I switched to BS sites
I did think about a hyena. (I use a Hyena for with twin web to rapid warp Freighters). But since I am getting away with using a Atron and twin Fleeting and a 5mn for tackle. It seems like overkill.
Am I the only one that thinks that maybe they should have made more XV SKINs available? They’re nothing really special to begin with and even less so limited to the two dozen or so ship hulls.
I really wanted to like this event. It’s just not that exciting.
So cruiser has started warping out. Did it to me twice now. I am trying the double web Ashimmu setup and the cruiser does not like it. Warps out when i almost have him cracked.

Happened to me three times now. And I am not eve webbing him. As soon as I start shooting him he warps out.
This event is broken… it was working fine until yesterday.
To anyone, who have problems chasing the cruiser:
Take any fast cruiser with at least 4 med slots. Fit 2 webs, 50 MN MWD and 10 MN afterburner. Warp to the site, overheat your MWD and hit approach to drifter cruiser. Lock the drifter. Overheat your webs once in 13 km from it and web it. Turn off MWD (if drifter did not do it for you yet) and turn on AB. Keep at your optimal range guns (a bit closer, cause drifter tends to drift and can sling shot away from web range). TURN OFF overheat on webs before they burn out. With 500 dps you should be able to kill the drifter before your capacitor runs out.
50 milion fit, that should do the trick (hard to survive, though):
