Only the 8.9 MB game patch yesterday are officially documented. The 200 MB patch prior to that are not. Both patches should be in the patch notes because that is what patch notes are meant for.
Only the 8.9 MB game patch yesterday are officially documented.
Wrong.
The launcher updates are documented in the launcher changelog, right in the launcher.
That aside, your expectations of how patch notes “should” work don’t really comport with reality. There are plenty of valid reasons for not publishing customer-facing notes for every last change. Some updates are likely pre-staging for future updates that aren’t live yet. Many simply don’t warrant a note - they’re not going to tell you about it every time they refactor something with no user-facing changes.
Reading comprehension. These are not Launcher updates. The 200 MB undocumented patches are game client updates. Launcher patches are not downloaded like game updates and are not visible in the download line at the bottom of the launcher.
Every patchnotes that I have seen so far in my life list even small changes because they are the reference to figure out what’s going on with the software you use and if something goes wrong. CCP is so far the only company that patches stuff undocumented in such a regular and recurring fashion.
CCP are actually unusually good at documenting patches. With most companies we are lucky to get ”improves stability” in the patch notes, CCP regularly documents even small changes in the translated descriptions in the Chinese client.
Even if you had an online game running on multiple server shards, shunting users to different shards to perform routine server maintenance, then you still must shutdown to update all the client software on the player’s PC. The model CCP chose is rapid maintenance with multiple updates per week. The alternative is longer maintenance with fewer weekly updates.
Regardless of the chosen model, all servers do update files while you are interacting. Most of the time the only files sent and received are compressed informational packets. If there is a missing texture for example, then it can be downloaded on the go as needed.
Even when a player is sitting in dock reading their mail, the server looks in to see what you are doing and updates the changes. It is just how things work.
As to the content of updates, I would not think there is any concern of a hidden agenda. There are far too many players on these games who are code monkeys, that would quick detect and report shenanigans on Reddit and YouTube.
This is just a delusional belief of the you-don’t-know-what-you-don’t-know variety.
If the build number didn’t change then no, it isn’t, but you’re wrong about which update is which, I bet.
Eta: Yep, you’re wrong again. The 200mb update is build #3183544, which you keep attributing to an 8MB DL because you don’t actually know what you’re talking about but aren’t going to let that get in the way of being a relentless malcontent.
The 8MB file is just a prefetch file. Both files are part of the same build, not individual updates. Once again, you keep assuming that every individual file the launcher downloads constitutes a separate update to the game client and that isn’t actually the case.

If you read anything I have ever said about the launcher, I am no fan of the Chromium source code either. They basically used Google Chrome open source for this launcher. Many online games use a simple web browser interface to access the account and start the client. However it doesn’t need to be this complicated. Unless the client needs to be updated, the game client should be able to log you into the game directly. However CCP has apparently made it impossible to log in using only the client software.
See? That’s the issue. You don’t know what belongs to which download. But thank you for finally confirming to yourself and others that there are 2 patches by virtue of your list. Let that sink in.
If you look up to 4d ago and 10d ago, I do not think that there are 960 MB or 164 MB prefatch files. I don’t attribute anything in the wrong way, because the launcher and the patch notes do not give any information about what’s going on.
I do not assume that any download is a separate update to the game, that’s what you assume. I only assume that something is being downloaded in 2 patches of which only one is listed in the patchnotes, and I want to know what the other payload is. I’ve never said anything besides that one point.
It is literally just part of the same payload, what part of this is too difficult to wrap your mind around? They’re not separate patches, they’re stages of the same patch. The “patch” isn’t the act of downloading some individual file, it is the update of the client from version X to version >X.
Because it’s highly unusual from virtually any other commercially used update process. No other game, no launcher, no productivity software I use downloads updates like CCP does.
CCP also never explained this shift in the patchin paradigm. It just suddenly started to happen in typical intransparent CCP fashion.
As a software developer, I can confirm this. My projects use the same process.
The real problem lies in local bad cash-grabbing anti-consumer ISPs. No ISP in 2026 should charge based on used bandwidth. I live in a part of the World that even God forgot about, and we still didn’t have this Internet access payment model for the last 15+ years.
I don’t have any problems with downloads. It’s just a couple of seconds of waiting before starting to play. Nothing to even think about, let alone being bothered by it.
If anyone has a problem with downloads, maybe it’s time to put some pressure on your ISP, or even local legislators to eliminate charging per GB and improve Internet infrastructure. Going to individual services that you are using and blaming them will go nowhere, especially since unlimited download is considered a standard for decades in most even remotely developed parts of the World.
Why do you care so much? I’ve played this game on and off for 20 years. Nobody I know has ever had any problem with the update system, apart from all the people who whine about unexpected downtime and demand free SP.
Who cares about a 200mb update? It takes almost no time at all. What do you think they’re doing to your computer? Have you a reason for being so worried about it?
