Don’t begrudge any CCP dev to be able to communicate using any means they choose, just that these forums should be the most common form that they do so.

Just wish there was a way to have a clearinghouse type of thread that accumulates all communications by CCP devs (acting as such, ofc) outside these forums and carbon copies them here for the community to read. Make it a read only thread to eliminate derailment. Just would like to eliminate the second or third hand way of obtaining “official” game info a week or two after any certain select EVE group community is made aware of it. Guess I could subscribe to all the EVE groups, but I shouldn’t have to do so to be kept informed.

From what I’ve seen, very few game companies are using their own forums to engage with their own players on any regular basis. CCP at least is engaging on different platforms; some of them don’t even do that.

I suspect it’s a combination of several things: in today’s software development environment, you generally can’t ask employees to voluntarily subject themselves to the sort of abuse that randos on the internet regularly feel entitled to dish out. Combine that with the fact that moderating randos on the internet is a thankless and neverending task, and the additional mental stress of being “a corporate representative of our game, on our forums, talking with our customers”, and add to that the fact that legal and compliance is watching over your shoulder with “You can’t say that! You have to say this or nothing” directives… it’s surprising any dev gets on the forums at all.

Heck, even paid ‘Community Managers’ on many games barely engage on or respond to their forums. They just run live streams and AMA’s and Facebook pages where comments and responses can be managed more easily.

At least when they’re on outside forums they can always play the “It’s unofficial, just my personal opinion” card if they fluff something up.

Not saying this is the way it could be or should be - just that given the practical issues that entitled randos, loudmouths and trolls are ubiquitous on the web, and legal and PC issues exist, the natural tendency is just to stay off the public forums except for very limited and on-point comments.

Show me difference between account with “CCP” in beginning, posting here or on reddit. On reddit they no longer represents company by using their company nicknames? There is no difference where they will spill the beans from any legal standpoint.

For me biggest issue is still sharing information behind locked doors. Because someone is friend of CCP guys and can talk with them on comms or whatever. There is shitload information shared there that normal player never gets but it’s still not violation of NDA. It’s so annoying…

It is indeed a disgrace you look through my posting history. Get a life!

He’s a dick. He has never had an original thought. He prides himself on being a one trick pony. He bases his self worth on the attention (good or bad doesn’t matter) that he can manage to attract. He’s a nobody that contributes nothing to the conversation.

Still. I’d rather have him be able to post his pointless drivel here unblocked by overzealous moderation than turn this forum into the fiefdom of censorship that is reddit.

You’re really too kind. Love you too.

You just havn’t been here long enough. For years we hear the same old crap, every few months the voices change. How many times can you give an honest response to the same old poorly thought out crap?

Example:

EVE should be like <insert WOW clone> because that game has more customers
No, go away!!

Congrats…

Should this show that CCP is still active here?

ISDs are volunteers.
CCP are employees.

They’re not the same, and to even make a comment like this shows how little you know about either.

And?

For being ‘volunteer’ you must have at least ONE time made contact to CCP and handed out a ‘how to moderate our forum’ rulebook of some kind right?

So in my eyes even a ‘volunteer’ is ccp and can be used as a ‘we are still here’ beacon, and THIS is what this thread is all about dude…

I think the problem is you in that case. First off, you seem to think that discourse on the current events of the game is some how pandering to make Eve a WoW clone. This is the type of mindless drivel that quells meaningful conversation.

We get it. You , a couple others, have strong opinions. Please continue to have strong opinions and stop crapping all over people that come to this place to share ideas.

The WOW clone statement was only an example of the type of rehashed whining that takes place throughout the years. I don’t think I’ve ever known anyone who wasn’t a neckbeard irl to use the word “drivel” unironically.

When you post like @Nicolai_Serkanner then you know you have been here long enough :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

People are not so obvious, but you see it all the time.

Example: “…like a modern game…”

And then there’s some that are so “extremist”, and if we’re to be honest they’re on both sides of the PvP/PvE fence, that it borders on satire.

Poe’s law in effect.

It’s actually VERY obvious.

Compliment?

If you’ve been following along, almost all of these threads begin with people asking “why do we need your proposal?” or “can you provide support for your claims?” People making these threads usually take these as personal attacks and the thread devolves when it becomes clear that they have not thought out their idea well enough.

It also becomes very apparent that many ideas are just made because 1) the OP is usually in an emotional state, having just been ganked or killed, or 2) the OP is lazy and wants to make the game easier for them, specifically, without having put any thought into how it would impact the rest of the game.

This, plus those of us who have been around for a bit are now super familiar with this posting model:

OP (generally a brand new alpha alt and thank god those get to post anywhere, wew): <Some post of remarkable stupidity, served neat. These are usually garnished with factual errors, demonstrated poor understanding of game mechanics, and the entitled belief that some personal problem they are having must be resolved on a systemic level>

Basically everyone: That’s dumb, here’s why.

OP: <90238 followup posts defending their remarkable stupidity TO THE DEATH because they think their ignorance is better than everyone else’s knowledge>

5000 posts later we all get to enjoy some disingenuous and laughably hypocritical mewling about forum civility.
