Details on forthcoming improvements to compression mechanics

Carebears always want more, it’s never enough. More, easier, less effort.

The type of folks who use cheats or, when they run a server for some game, set all the multipliers, including XP, to x100. To then realise after a short while that it’s all meaningless and boring, but then never attribute that to their own choices.

Yes, super compression. So that I can haul all my minerals in an interceptor rather than a freighter.

Now that would be good for the game, right?

(Hint: there is a reason items don’t have tiny sizes, including compressed ores, as there would be no reason for specialist hauling ships if everything could fit in the smallest fastest ships.)

Taking compression away from POS station makes prefect sense, since the Porpoise has compression. The wording has me concerned though…am I to believe that POS Station are going to be done away with in the future? if so, Why? I do believe in balance, but not at the expense content and fun.

One drawback is that you warp into the wind-shield of a Porpoise with 2x Catalyst and you are poof before you even activate any defense-module.

Is that not a drawback when you cannot move?

They should lock you in space when your security status is below -5.0 in highsec. Makes ganking much more fun.

Agree in terms of anything above 100:1 compression being daft, no sense in simplifying to that extent.

I don’t agree with your notion about carebears here though, those with rorqs spent years training for them, it has been a long slow journey for many. They’ve earned the right to a nice compression mechanic in much the same way as someone who has spent time grinding trig rep or collecting / researching BPOs and so on has earned something from it.

None of this is about instant gratification / less effort, more a reward for earning something that was taken away / diminished.

And yet here you are hanging with the carebears.

Hey, use some of that pseudo-psycho analysis on the sociopathic ganker mentality.

Theyve been wanting to get rid of POS’s for a long time now but have been unsuccessful due to legacy code

OMG, this is so COMPLICATED now. Why?

Did I miss the release date on this or is it still pending feedback?

It’s was released to Sisi for testing last week Thursday

“command ship itself” Key portion of the quote that i bolded out.

It appears that the rorqual is losing self-compression ability without having these modules, I find this to be an abhorrent and unacceptable change.

This little line item detail being buried here is rather scummy, this is feature removal and is not acceptable. A Rorqual should be able to self-compress anything itself without having to fit these goofy fleet boost modules, or training them, there is no reason to remove that feature other than being rude.

I think it’s more consistent this way: for compression you require to have compression modules on your ship.

Yes, that means the Rorquals lose something they already had. While Rorquals are not in need of a nerf right now, I much prefer consistent gameplay over a situation where we have all sorts of different rules just because some people don’t want changes. Let CCP make it up for Rorquals in another way.

Negative, they found no-no square. Feature removal should be broadcasted clearly, this is a bad change because it is, as well as not clearly being advertised.

They’ve already taken enough (just look at the Activity decline 2006 User numbers oof.) these fleet boost high modules are already bad enough in design (which tbh it should just be 1 module with a script/charge, and there is no need for it to be a capital/subcapital version, with the range difference being made up by hull bonus) Combined with these Modules already being subservient to the industrial core, which i find to be a disgusting new precedent.

This is still better than their previous iteration, which isn’t saying much, but it still could be much better for overall quality of life of the players.

Considering flying these ships individually is providing little to no reward intentionally making it annoying for the sake of it is generally rude. Fleet boosters need a reason to be piloted other than providing boosts to your own alts. Oh god I’ve got it, fleet boosts charge the miners and we can setup automatic payments in the wallet with a threshold just like JBs.

I wouldn’t go as far as saying abhorrent, but yes, the rorq should be able to compress ore without the compression module. The compression module should only be for fleet-wide compression.

Having said that, Sisi may be a bit buggy in that the industrial core description still has “Deployed Rorquals also gain access to special assembly lines which can compress asteroid ore and ice”, and the bolded section below implies there are multiple ways to “unlock” compression.

the only complexity is the numerous modules needed. However they were added because CCP likes giving us choice and making us figure out what we want to use so that not everything can just be done at once. Which is not a bad thing, it’s just annoying. It also gives something for people who have nothing to train, something to train for shits and giggles.

Agreed, I like a challenge as well. CCP is in that “Damned if they do, Damned if they don’t” situation. I personally, have a small fleet that would benefit from this greatly and applaud this. Plus , I get to figure out what will work best with my fleet. Face it…mining can get really boring.
My only concern is price for compressed ore and the possible Greater availability of this type driving prices down for us in the supply end.
That said, I’m also a manufacture as well and I like lower costs for minerals and components for my T2 modules.

@CCP_Masterplan I think I posted already about this issue, but since it is ****** annoying and still on Sisi, here is EBR-231038
Cannot Unfit a module in Simulate mode while in space.

if you think there is no reward for using a command ship, you have probably never used one.

tl;dr version:

Compression is hisec only, no changes for other places.
Porpoise made completely useless outside hisec just like Orca, nerfed in hisec too.
Another set of extreme mining nerfs.

As a miner, I am extremely disappointed in this. Even the first version of lossy and slow compression was useful. This? Completely and utterly useless, I won’t have noticed it is in the game if not for mining nerfs that come with it.

you don’t know how to mine if you think the orca is useless outside of HS, HS is the place it is LEAST useful for, and shipboard compression is everywhere.
