Dev blog: Abyssal Deadspace - What Lies Beyond The Filament

The whole thing is just a part of the mistery of why CCP develops new PvE to be different from the PvE that’s been working for 15 years, whereas the PvE that’s been working for 15 years isn’t expanded because, since it worked for 15 years, showing appreciation for it would be so wrong.

Imagine CCP added new agent missions so people can figure new ways to sandbox them, instead of adding stuff that can be resolved in one and only one way… even to the point that you’re restricted about what ships to bring.

I’ve rescued the Damsel in anything from T2 frigates to Marauders from 2 different factions. I would gladly assassinate his bodyguard in a hundred ways if CCP obliged… but instead I am asked to resolve a stupid brain teaser with stupid “unpredictable” AI, stupid risk of losing, and with only one stupid ship class which eventulaly will be optimized to a single stupid ship type with a single stupid fit.

Especially if the mission pocket would get Abyss level graphic… I remember my newbie time, when I was doing missions just to see angel cathedral or similar celestial jewels…

I agree with the idea that this has to make a decent impression when it comes out if it makes a bad impression all the devs work will end up in the dumpster.

Right now it makes a very bad impression it resembles content that doesn’t want to be done.Players will try sites until they die then look for a solution from other players if the majority of answers will be ‘it’s ■■■■ don’t do it’ they won’t touch it even after balancing is done

I’ve been asked by my corpmates who knew I was on sisi trying it,how it is what ships work inside, casual players who can’t be bothered to test dozens or hundreds of sites,I had to say it’s the hardest pve content I’ve yet to encounter in EVE, content not worth investing into compared to other activities currently in-game.

Or the content is too hard, or the rewards suck. It have to be one or the other with new stuff from CCP recently. :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

Well lets be real…

Loot only sucks if you wont use it or it sells for sod all. What happens with this loot on TQ is yet to be seen, and is entirely dependant on how many people run the sites.

The idea doesn’t suck, like I mentioned before, on paper these sites look fantastic, they are also some of the most beautiful space scenes I have seen in a game ever, And I have been playing games since the zx spectrum.

The content doesn’t suck, it isn’t to hard, or too easy, it’s the unpredictable side (that is also a large part of the appeal), complete ship and pod loss combined with limited ship choice and a time limit that seems to drop 10 mins by the time you have had a nice look about and taken in the stunning scenery.

It just needs to be understood that as they currently stand, they are not that appealing, the exotically rich ingame players would be better off just buying the loot and not even running the sites, the players that struggle to replace a thorax just wont do them, it would be silly for them to do so, and the folk in between will try a few times, it may work for some, not for others and move back to what they did before as they realize that they have to replace more blown up ships and pods than they would running scannable sites in WH’s or lowsec.

You are pretty much right on all points, which just proves that a little thought by CCP about what the players themselves will make of the current “die bitch” attitude, will work wonders.

CCP Falcon appears to be enjoying it on Twitter, but maybe not having to grind for two weeks to replace a ship will do that for you.

Hopefully they will wake up to that before they drown this particular baby at birth.

What does it say when running standard L4 missions holds more of an appeal than the new Abyssal pockets?

• These Abyssal pockets are an unmitigated disaster.
• The new Triglavian ships, weapons and accompany skills are garbage.
• I’m not even going to comment on the Mutaplasmids.

I will say that the concept is amazing and the space itself has a great atmosphere and the challenge itself is amazing, it just need’s some balance on npc’s hp/ speed/ neuting power /dps and overall the timer.

But that’s a lot of work, way more than 8 day’s.

If tackle frig’s didn’t move at 3km/s then the site will be runable by good kiting (Can’t atm you will always get caught)

If the npc’s didn’t neut then It would be runnable with very expensive fit’s for max tank.

If the npc’s focus’ed on active tank (300 active tank after resist’s) rather than ehp, the site will remain hard but will be more viable for a broader selection of ship’s (less than 700 dps needed).

If the npc’s didn’t have over 2k dps then more than just hac’s could run T4/5, but maybe the dev’s wanted to make assault damage control good for something xD

Eye candy alone does not a good feature make.

It’ll make a good asset/isk sink for a few weeks

I’d rather have a Drifter Battleship.

Yeah, agent missions are obsolescent graphically speaking and yet they’re quite the thing. Nothing CCP has done is better than those missions, much of waht they have done is pure garbage, and yet agent missions haven’t been expanded since they added Dread Pirate Scarlett in 2011. It’s been literally 7 years without a single new mission.

And wanna have a laugh? They don’t add new missions because, according to CCP Guard, since people enjoys them for years as they are, there’s not much an incentive to add more, is it? That is, PvErs don’t get new missions because PvErs actually like missions.

It takes a completely new degree of genius to spend thousands of man/hours developing stuff universally dismissed while you don’t give a sh*t of adding new toys for the guys who like your old toys.

“Hey, people still are buying the 2004 Toyota Corolla, so, why bring newer models? Let’s build some rat rods instead!”

Since people still buy this…

We don’t need this…

So let’s spend months to build this instead!

let me refer to the dev blog Abyssal Deadspace - What Lies Beyond The Filament

"Abyssal Deadspace is a new type of encounter in EVE focused around short session solo gameplay, with some very “EVE” type opportunities for interaction."

"An Abyssal Deadspace sequence is capped at 20 minutes and can be accessed anywhere in space. This will allow capsuleers to jump in for a short session at lunch, bringing more life to the universe."

…as if… After reading this part I thought HOOOoooorrrRRRAAAHHH! I don’t get to play much till the kids are in bed, then I can roll a fat one, stick on some tunes and do some solo pve that will only take 20 mins a pop, I may even squeeze in two sites before I am to tired to function.
But now having actually run the sites, it just isn’t what it says on the tin chaps.

“Abyssal Deadspace provides developers with new tools to test out ideas that previously felt too risky or controversial, both when it comes to art and gameplay.”

yep, the art team have done a sterling job., hats off to’em. Who is working on the gameplay part? Why are they not adding anything to this discusion. CCP Dragon was great on the forums re the agency at being (a) visible and (b) engaged.

Ok folks you all need to calm down a , bit Eve’s trying out something new and a totally Different direction for a change. The abysmal pocket’s are an awesome idea and you need a lot of skill’s 5 to even try this plus some Isk to invest in a solid build ship. Now that being said , one must farm these mission acquire the new ship’s Blueprints frig cruiser and BS to do 4-5’s without dying , is the whole idea Farm X to achieve Y.

I hope CCP doesn’t allow much ftp into this otherwise it will turn into ISK sink and ruined CCP efforts to take EVE down a better path.

BTW thanks you Devs for coming up with a total Awesome new idea and direction I’ve been in eve since 03 and I won’t quit

It’ll take you less time counting the grains of sand on a beach than to plasmid several top tier mods. Also battleships are not allowed inside

Don’t forget that counting the grains of sand will also be more enjoyable than the current Abyssal pockets.

No one will want to do that if they are abysmal.

As I see Abyss space right now, reasonable balance (almost withtout additional programming) would be so:

  • Tier 5 is current tier 3 with loot table adjusted correspondingly. With random spawnes you have really good chance to lose any ship with any implants / boosters cause of time / unpredictable NPC spawns
  • Tier 4 is current tier 3 with 40 minutes cap instead of 20 minutes. At least time will not kill you. Random NPC spawn still do.
  • Tier 3 is current tier 2. You should be really good to run this with 99 % chance of success. Cause timer is still 20 minutes cap and thats is not much.
  • Tier 2 is current tier 2 but with 40 minutes cap instead of 20 minutes.
  • Tier 1 is ok as it is now.

TL;DR - skip current tier 4 and 5 as totaly unpredictable, almost no oone will run them. Good job at tier 1-tier 3, just adjust time limits on some of them to break the tiers from 3 into 5.

F3 filaments are still a mixed bag of snakes depending on NPC spawns. Only F1-F2 filaments can be completed with a reasonable degree of success.
