i’m not quitting i’m just on a break
I am not sure how the Philosophy behind the experiential EVE will mesh with BDO particular flavour of aggressive P2W.
While, the wording on the press announcement, mentions “(CCP) will continue to operate independently”, I am concerned that this deal may undermine what drew me to EVE, and the ongoing game play that continues to interests me.
What can you tell me?
Marketing /= development /= management /= messaging. At its peak CCP’s marketing was stupendously impressive for acquisition. The lady who ran that, smart cookie, now works at some scandinavian shooter game company, and is still brilliant.
But honestly, you assume that CCP’s lack of focus in things was not designed that way. It was. Ever since F2P became the model, CCP’s upper management has had to walk a very fine line in tearing down things and splitting up streams which in regular marketing of a company which aims to grow would be … let’s say odd. But the aim was to package and sell.
Yeah, they are different. But PA has never given a toss about that. Their strategem is one of monocultural application of core concepts. So basically differences do not matter. You walk over them. You play the player. And in the end, you make more money, and the whining player pays more anyway.
As for Serenity, I kinda hope people don’t put the links together between the little leaks there since that respective announcement and this one.
GamesBeat: And Pearl Abyss is buying everything, right? 100 percent of the company?
Petursson: Yes. They’re buying 100 percent of CCP.
Sold entirely.
que sara sara (whatever will be will be) it’s out of our hands we either suck it up or we quit and EVE and CCP die
This is it forum fanbois, here’s your Alamo, time to dig in and go for broke!
We will have to agree, to disagree.
In my view, EVEs success with the population it has, has been the result of the player community, not CCP marketing or even EVE content development.
Players stay in EVE primarily due to other players and its community on Tranquility, not due to CCP marketing or EVE development.
Players/community, quite literally, are what make EVE interesting and provide its content.
Well they paid $425 million for them, so you’ll need to raise atleast that much, gl with that
The only great part of this whole thing is Falcon will soon be out the door. Won’t be the owners pet any more and PA won’t let him talk his normal ■■■■ to customers like Hilmar does.
makes more sense… https://www.ccpgames.com/news/2018/netease-games-and-ccp-reached-a-strategic-cooperation-to-open-new-era-of
Sure, I’ll take it.
It’s marketing speak designed to trigger followers into advocating a marketing blanket which distracts from the business reality that when a company is acquired the owner decides for it, period.
Even if there is such a thing as a gentleman’s agreement, or minor stipulations, these things always end in one way. No exceptions. The one who gets bought does the bidding of the one who buys. There’s a simple thing which is commonly used in such scenario’s, based on guiding exposure of people and concepts. People rub off on each other, ideas are contagious, business targets provide frames.
PA, a lot can be said about them, but this is something they excell at. Which is logical, because it is innate to their business culture, and this aspect is something particularly Europeans and Americans are not subtle enough for.
Look, EVE has always been changing anyway. It’s just not the behavioural soup that it once was, that is a thing of the past. Done and dead anyway, F2P requires it. This change, it will have effects. Over time. EVE won’t die, it will make more money. People will leave, but they will be replaced.
There is no independance in an acquisition, it isn’t a partnership. Over time CCP Games will figure it out, but it won’t be a bad thing. It pays wages, enables people do their own adventures, so it’s fine.
Everyone just needs to chill their ■■■■, they weren’t bought out by EA, they were bought out by another one trick pony that has lots of cash and no other IPs to invest in. CCP has managed to keep EVE alive and well for close to 2 decades. That surely looks like a good investment, not to mention CCP wanna try their hand at other genres, they need money for that and above all, they need skilled/experienced employees to do that. Pearl made a decent RPG, CCP wanna make a decent RPG, they’re both little fish in a big pond, it makes sense to band together, otherwise yeah, EA might just approach them with a deal, and no one wants that.
That said, those of you who still intend on going back to WOW after biomassing, be sure to contract me everything you own, i’ll make sure it finds a good home <3
Yes, Pearl Abyss do not need current toxic and bankrupt playerbase.
The Eve is dead, long live the Eve !!!
Interesting theoretical.
How much would the active base of EVE have to pay into a fund per player to match/exceed this offer?
I suppose retroactively, grossly, that is our value, per player.
Ofc this deal with PA involves other benefit to CCP from PAs distribution, expertise etc, so even if we could raise a better offer in cash, it wouldnt be equitable.
i think its a bad idea to have anything to do with pearl abyss atleast if they get a say in how ccp is run as im pretty sure black desert is heavily pay to win.
I dislike cookies. Required? I won’t have it. Good luck!
Ok, i’m not very good at photoshop, but couldn’t resist to make it
This is 100% right !!! Europe and USA will get “Asian version of Eve”
