Dev blog: Introducing Resource Wars

Any content is good. So I take it these sites won’t appear in low sec?

Except there’s no keys, and the sites expire.

But there are keys, or key equivalents so that if you can get all of them, or fill every slot to capacity with your corp members, you have achieved perfect safety and control over that pocket.

Now if a site at max capacity runs out in 10 minutes, that isn’t really a problem. If you can farm that site for hours while maintaining gate control, that is an issue.

Hence, we need to wait for the details.

Wonder whether best strategy would be to mine empty a couple sites and ship the ore to the other sites.

Which would do what, other than delay getting the LP?

If the empires are really slim on resource gathering it seems they would develop their own tech to scan down wrecks, particularly the troves of abandoned L3 and L4 mission wrecks.

Would NPC salvage gathering ops be a feasible extension to mining?

These could be wrecks that generate usable loot or unique salvage items than can only be exchanged for LP with the Resource Wars corporations.

I’m pretty sure the scrap we sell back is covered under this.

This is exciting and cool. Looking forward to it.

Can only guess from what I read, sites are time limited, there is more ore than necessary, the completion criterion is to fill the haulers … we will see.

It doesn’t sound so much like ‘slim’ as… well…

This makes me kinda wonder what exactly happens if the Empires can’t get the proceeds from these expeditions?

@CCP_Affinity ? Not looking for spoilers, but is any thought being given to the consequences of failure and/or visible preference from capsuleers here? Long-term shifts in the balance of power, maybe? Political effects from one nation or another falling behind in the cluster-wide resource race? Or if say, organized efforts were made by groups trying to shore up these resources beyond just LP and standings?

As an example: if a bunch of TLF groups start focusing on supporting Caldari mining efforts. Can FW pilots go and engage haulers from their enemy faction, for that matter?

Steve you’ve been around the forums enough that you should know @Linus_Gorp is just trolling. Don’t fall for it.

What about Command Burst support for the miners? Could you speed up the site with Mining Command Bursts?

It would be great if we could join the pirate factions.

IMO this is needlessly paranoid. We already have various ship-gated sites and sites that require a key in your cargo to enter the gate on missions. This is no different.

There’s nothing stopping an enterprising pirate from grinding up standings to be able to gank in these sites just like there’s nothing stopping a mission ganker from having an Angel Diamond Tag to access the last room of AE.

Being able to influence the backstory, the lore is the RP dream, the long term goal. CCP will never go for it. Much easier for everything to remain static.

Based on the input, sites are limited by ship size. No details given but it may be like FW… Novice or easiest only allows T1 frigs and under. No mining boost possible.
Smalls would allow frigate and dessies but may exclude T3 dessies so you could sneak in a command dessies with a mining boost may be.

Now granted, we do not know details but my guess is the larger sites will allow even a porpise so boost will work.

Can there soon be plans to do this?

Yes there is. There are a limited number of spots or “capacity” for these sites. An enterprising group can completely lock down a site from everyone else, regardless if a ganker, mission flipper or opponent they are at war with has the standings to enter.

That is completely different than just having a standings requirement. Now, if that time you can isolate yourself from the rest of New Eden (while grinding resources into our shared universe) is short and you then have to move on to another site putting yourself at risk again, that isn’t a major issue. But being able to lock yourself behind a gate in complete safety is something that doesn’t exist currently.

Remember that you also don’t know how many people the cap is. If it’s 10, that’s a lot easier to lock down than say, 50.

At 50… well, if you were gonna bring 1-5 gankers in, you might not find such easy targets.

On the flip side, if they set it so CONCORD doesn’t show up in these super secret rare sites the Empires are protective of… that would be pretty cool.

But everything doesn’t remain static. Everything slowly evolves. Players determined who the new Empress would be. Players influenced the technological development of the T3Ds. Going back to before the boondoggle of FW, players actively engaged in the Empires’ wars. The stories are out there, like U’K’s coordination with the (NPC) Defiants in the campaigns against the 24IC.

It’s not just :the RP dream:… it’s CCP’s dream, too. It’s just not one that can be thrown around incautiously, or all hell will break loose… and that’s not how you have a game last more than a decade.
