welcome to mining age see you in the belts…
“Blow chunks of moon into space to get mine them in a ship”
1 month later
“All moons have been destroyed, planetary apocalypse has come, PI gone forever”
“… meh”
It would be fun if the moons did disappear, bases might float away too though…
I hope CCP plans on doing more then one New moon material distribution then once.
Look closely at this system and plan to correct any issues were all one high end moons end in one place is not good at all for the system.
One system ccp should look over is to remove the knowing what is a good region vs bad region. Remove the -1 system from the game. This system should only belong in low and high. Let the players find it out them self’s. By adding more resources then just bounties and ore. Also add more activates then just solo sites and add more different types of sites. We have over 5000 solar systems why must they all be module after one other.
So we shouldn’t expect better? Way to preach the mediocrity.
Wouldn’t it be wonderful if you could mark your account as PVP only and get a constant income stream from CCP directly to your wallet, so you don’t have to do that boring PVE to finance your needs.
There is a solution already for those people that only want PVP, it’s called PLEX.
I can imagine the beauty of seeing a moon destabilize and just go KABOOM as a result of far too much moon fracturing. XD

Interesting changes, I like the redistribution, survey changes and generally the feeling of “new”. Good job there @CCP_Lebowski, thanks. I fail to see any real EVE where these changes will open to the masses of players unaffiliated with large groups. It’s an empty promise as the described mechanics do nothing for ninja-miners nor small groups - on the contrary. It will get harder for them to acquire moon minerals.
-
For the Null cartels it won’t change much. The effort will rise for them too, but taken the safety of Null and scalability they will easily get a hold of it. Guys like @Querns understand Goons & Co. don’t need to win compared to “before”, just in relative terms compared to smaller groups and lowsec in general. And they will.
-
For Lowsec and small Nullsec moon-holders things get awefully more complicated, as there is no other reason/incentive to hold a large mining fleet compared to Nullsec with their upgrades and all that. In nowadays Lowsec moon-holding described a relatively good income (even great for some) in exchange for driving content and being able to force control through PVP. What is going to happen to that after the changes? Where is the career option of being a small-time warlord? Same for even smaller groups: right now you could have a chance with 200m base investment and getting lucky to not be detected in some remote system. After the patch good luck with even anchoring a structure that will probably cost 500m+, has a 24h anchoring timer and is visible to anyone without them having to use d-scan. I mean it will be fun, that’s for sure - just not for the small guys who have their hopes up at the moment.
-
Likewise for the idea of ninja-mining. It sounds good until you realize that you need a mining fleet and logi (vs. the offensive capabilities of the Refineries) at the very least. Plus - and this is a big part of it - some way of transporting the ore you “ninja-mined”. It’s a logistical nightmare if you don’t have your own structures in system or are willing to risk a Rorqual and JF to do some small scale shitty ninja mining. My prediction: not gonna happen on any measurable scale.
-
Another big problem I see is how to interrupt moon operations AFTER the Refineries have been anchored. If killing Refineries takes 7 days and 3 timers too, that’s a pretty big buff in terms of safety. I hope there will be reasonably long vulnerability timers at the very least @CCP_Lebowski. The idea to watch the moon chunk and predict when it will be ripe sounds not too bad… at first. But even if you manage to keep a hold of these times, show up in the right moment etc - how the ■■■■ are you going to force content, when you can’t even punish people for docking up and waiting you out? Hell if you want us to passive-agressively mine asteroid belts while being blue-balled, at least give us a mining subsystem for T3Cs to make it possible. (well or like someone proposed some form of weapon to destroy the chunks)

Finally, what about T2 in general? I mean you’ve added complexity to what is already the most complex production process in game. And no, T3 is currently easier to produce than T2, just inb4 some unexperienced remarks. Now we need more people, more time and additional steps. Kind of seems off to me, that there are so many T2 ships with big issues not being touched, while they are made harder to produce… Proposal: require some amount of T2 materials for pirate faction ships to even that out a tiny bit.
Hey, you leave Independence Day out of this! I first saw that when I was 8 and loved it to death.
why do we all seem to forget Malcanis law?
You know
Whenever a mechanics change is proposed on behalf of ‘new players’, that change is always to the overwhelming advantage of richer, older players.
I love some of the disinformation and deflection above but with the control of timing of the chunk a large well organized force can coordinate a roam through a lot of moon, a giant ‘lap’ of luxury. (pun intended) Smaller groups will try to make do with the scraps of off of the beaten and beaten down path.
So, has the market been efected? expections of T2 supply chain making for t2 purchase or sell off?

Will moons provide less and less resources for each cycle of mining?
And fully refresh only after 5-6 month of “not-mining” state?
This will force some alliance to claim new systems at least.
Not a big motivation to start a war but still. Better this than nothing.
So, CCPLEASE, make moons provide less res each mining iteration.
- Its logic. You chunk a big part of moon!
- Its will be a reason to start a conflict (and Eve need a conflict).
Know what would be an effective content generator in highsec?
Making moon mining possible, but only in a small number of moons (1 or 2 per constellation), and anyone not in the same alliance as the corporation that ejected the rocks gets a suspect flag if they mine it.
This would concentrate players together to compete over a resource and drive conflict.
Definitely up for depleteable resources but only if:
- The scanning process is vasty overhaulled- its a boring pain
- The resources reshuffle in a local area (System, Constellation or Region) - dont want to end up with the arse end of nowhere with all the goo
How about a seismic charge module that let’s you blast bite size chunks off the moon crusticles? This would allow ninja mining gangs to trundle arround in Endurances etc picking at chunks and would be a good replacement for siphons
Why? You can just ninjamine the belt. There’s no need for additional mechanics; the potential is already built in to the base design.
Because this would allow roaming ninja fleets to come in and nibble the crust chunk when you aren’t looking. Especially whilst it’s ouside of the refinery defence systems range.
About the 20 new moon ores under development
I would be a very happy camper if you put some pragmatic thought in naming and shaping them. Here are some thoughts for some of them:
R4 (Gases) : Atmospheric Gases, Evaporite, Hydrocarbons, Silicates.
R8 (Metals): Cobalt {Erythrite} [purple], Scandium {Thortveitite} [Yellow], Titanium {Benitoite} [blue], Tungsten {Scheelite} [Yellow]
R16 (Metals): Cadmium {Smithsonite} [White], Chromium {Uvarovite} [Green], Platinum (Nobel metals do not exist in compound with other elements as minerals, they are found in quarts rich ore or volcanic ore) Vanadium {Vanadinite} [Red]
R32 (Metals): Caesium, Hafnium, Mercury {Cinnabar} [Red] , Technetium
R64 (Metals): Dysprosium, Neodymium, Promethium, Thulium
Those suggestions are however the real world names for examples of minerals that contain the element in question. Those could be tweaked changed and adapted to the lore quite a bit. The colors and in some extent the shape of the crystals however would be similar regardless of the galaxy they are found. That is because of the possible oxidative states the elements can exist in. Thus chromium will often be green etc.
For inspiration on names, color and shape I would recommend you use https://www.mindat.org
This would make the nerdy mineral collector and chemist in me love you long time
And if you want me to help you with more, I would love to help! I find sci-fi to be best when it is plausible and I could definitely make this plausible even in the eye of a geologist
I hope CCP goes for a more unfair/uneven distribution rather than “everyone is special”, that way we get more competition and strife. Would be even cooler if the composition would change over time.
What will happen to the towers that are already anchored to a moon? Will they just disappear?
CCP HAVE STATED THEY WILL TAKE THEM DOWN AND GIVE YOU ISK VALUE OF THE TOWER PLUS MODS
