Devblog: Final Statement Brisc Rubal Follow Up Investigation

I think this is a very good post and the points in it support my personal belief that staff at CCP have confused RL with in game activity. Making public statements about the RL integrity of a player in a game that the manufacturers themselves encourage dirty dealings is hypocrisy of the highest order and damages a player in his real life - none of us want that for anyone playing Eve, do we?

I wholeheartedly agree with The Warframe that heads at CCP must roll, and heads at the very top. Anything else undermines CCP’s credibility very badly indeed. CEOs of bigger companies than this lose their jobs over far smaller mistakes.

I would love to see a wider change of personnel at CCP that removes the undue influence of the null blocs on staff, also; this includes removing the obviously corrupt CSM. We are in an unhealthy situation where endemic botting and nuts mechanics are tolerated because it suits NS and ‘protects’ subs and profits in RL. This is very short-sighted and this attitude will be what kills Eve.

In summary CCP you have behaved unbelievably badly here and shown very little integrity. You need to change your culture (and it stems from the top) fast. Hilmar needs to resign.

Does anyone else think Brisc threatened to sue, and CCP decided that it would be better to just drop the issue? Clearly there must have been some reason to take this action, and yet now CCP denies that there was any substance to the initial claim.

I have not actually. Brisc is still an asshole and a condencending bastard. He just didn’t break the NDA as CCP first told us he did.

Had to say it it fits so well XD

I just think its unlikely CCP took this action without some serious review of evidence. However, Brisc threatened to sue, and CCP did not want to spend the next year or two fighting an expensive lawsuit.

yup :+1:

Sadly, this mirrors “real life” all too well. Trial by media and snap judgments. Implication and accusation do not equal guilt. Broadcasting those implications and accusations, worse yet, acting on them without “proper investigation” - which somehow has now taken place and completely cleared the accused - lead to assumed guilt, where the system contorts itself into a nightmare of “guilty until proven innocent” and not the other way around, as it is supposed to be.

" inability to disprove does not prove "

Sadly, CCP had the ability to disprove and missed it. I’m fairly disappointed with CCP here, but give kudos on eating crow. It’s not easy.

Fly reckless, safe is boring.

Shure, a multi million dollar company is afraid of a lawsuit against one person and instead decides to tell everyone that they are liars who banned and slandered an elected community representative for no reason… Would you mind passing me some of your drougs? Must be good stuff.

Since nothing regarding confidentiality nor NDA were breached, how about tell us the full story CCP?

Especially transparency was promised in the first dev blog and integrity was mentioned held to highest regards. Without the full release of the insensitive information on the incident, it now not only leave the pro Bri sc group losing confidence, but also the entire remaining populace of players in doubt of the potential multiple standards of handling cases of tos, eula, NDA related breaches.

Another spot on choice with due diligence made with the same care done with the sweeping balance changes. Looking forward to the release of the Triglavian assault cruisers.

Exactly. One lawsuit could sink them. Even if the truth is on their side, you never know what will come out of the courtroom. That’s why the vast majority of cases are settled out of court, as neither side wants to take the risk. The legal fees are potentially enormous, and I doubt CCP has a lawyer on retainer in the US.

I think we should get a super discount for everyone for Omega time, to make up for it!!

Now that I’m back, I want to thank everybody who stood by me during this issue. This was a pretty stressful time period, but CCP did the right thing and I am satisfied with how things finally shook out.

I hope that all of you accept CCP’s apology, as I did, and let’s get back to playing EVE Online.

More and more this game relies on people spending money above subscription cost (for store items or to buy plex to sell for ISK). Given this event, why would anyone feel confident spending such money on this game?

This is particularly true for a game with complex meta like EVE. If CCP only needs “assumptions” to throw the ban-hammer, spending extra money on this game is not a safe bet.

They could have privately locked these individuals accounts. Informed them of the allegations against them. Carried out their interviews, and investigations, and then unlocked their accounts. Due process, fair treatment, egg free faces…

Welcome back! We all knew this had to be some mistake. CCP is professional, investigated and cleared you and our friends names. See you in space, buddy! o7

Also notice that many people who you got thrashed and treated with contempt on this forums in the past, still kept their objectivity and supported your presumption of innocence.
Maybe you will be also be more objective and see why you need to be fair to everyone and not follow just your group agenda…

In my opinion CSM members should have at least some protection against frivolous accusations, similar to politicians in the real world. Removing democratically chosen people from this game and the CSM destroys the votes cast on them too. And representatives attract all kinds of unnecessary scrutiny.

I wonder, will the removal of Ankhesentapemkah in 2010 be reviewed now as well? She was removed from CSM and banned without real explanation too…
