Devblog: Security Update - Q1 2019

The only reason why CCP disable 4lvl missions is MONEY =) This missions allow alpha pilots farm for Daily Injector or plex. CCP behavior is ugly and does not cause respect.

And i assume guardian gala gambling was good ? maybe it was a message. I hope so, beause one bad decision can never kill this game beacause there is so much content more to explore. Thats why all those negativity or/r/eve . Those people were afraid about their favourite type of playstyle. Glad to see you delivering CCP

And by hard locking all L4s you pretty much just killed high-sec for the more casual alpha crowd. That just leaves activities like DED sites, wormhole day tripping, and incursions for viable income streams in high.

Too bad that the income rate out in Null has always been so much stupidly higher…

Not like you are really going to entice people to open their wallets by slamming certain doors closed and leaving Null as the favored child with all the problems that brings.

You need a Permaband song about botting … been awhile.

@CCP_Falcon I think it’s great that you’re looking to go after alliance leaders and alliances making it possible for these bots being able to have space to rat and mine in. However, are you really ready to go after the really big groups that protect both renters and alliance members or corps that are botting? We know for example that one the most powerful groups in nullsec today kicks people for reporting fellow alliance members and coalition members for botting.

Yeah, cheaters will always be cheaters and will always find other ways. Don’t sacrifice New and legit Alpha players by limiting back game content further. Vixen is right, you will still be left with the same Botters/RMT, the difference is, theres no more Legit Alphas (potentially future omegas) playing the game. Hhmm OOOrrrrr might as well revert back to full pay to play subscription then?

Please dont drive people away from the game by disabling lvl 4 combat missions for alphas. At the very least, in case you do go on with this, make a one-time only deal for monthly time at a huge discount, lets say 6 months for 35 euros or something.

Difference for CCP. Online 20k is too big for this ā– ā– ā– ā–  game.

I agree that removing L4 security missions from alphas will ruin the experience. I specifically got back into EVE because it went free to play. I happen to be one of those casual high sec dwellers, and despite EVE being such a heavily PvP game, I actually enjoy the PvE activities more, so far. I enjoyed the concept that I could do L4 security missions to get ISK to buy PLEX. I was working on setting up my L4 missions ships and skills, when I saw this news. Putting L4 security missions behind Omega essentially kills my primary reason and goal, the activity I enjoy, for getting back into the game. It defeats the purpose. Grinding L3 missions to get the ISK to access L4 missions does not sound enjoyable at all. Keep on stripping away the things alphas can do and you might as well go back to paid subscriptions. Anyway, I am strongly against this decision as a means to combat botters. They will find ways around it. This feels akin to the stuff software developers and publishers do to their software to combat piracy. It never works, the pirates find a way around it, and the legit user suffers.

I don’t mean to alarm anyone but I think the alliances named things like ā€œBOTā€ and ā€œRMTā€ may in fact partake in these practices. It’s shocking, I know.

1350 account bans for account hacking.
4102 account bans for botting related activities.
1205 account bans for RMT related activities.
  1. are these mixed or separate account?
  2. eve offline see some peek of newborn (per example 6617 new capsuler the 18/11/2018), is it relative to ban periode?
  3. wow, i’m impressed of bots number of course but account hacking? in which way? good to have some enlight on this… security breach, player trying to sell their account on 3rd site, use of 3rd site to help players ingame asking ccp permisson to log (wormhole mapping etc)

always good to see something done for this huge problem in all online game!

As always, honest players will suffer.

Question.
When did the developers add new assignments to missions L4 and L5? I’m talking about the standard tasks, not ā€œBurnerā€.

I am an alpha player and i cant agree with the desition of putting the missions behind omega status, what do we have left for the alpha players than are in the game, you post recently where the ā€œiskā€ in the game is moving and you should realise that the mission are not the problem, the life of this game dont depend only on the players that are already in the game, but the new players too and you are eliminating motivation for the new ones to play or to continue you guys should think it again.

What I write here may sound complicated while it really isn’t that much but does allow to stay omega for 1-2h of your time a month and average ~155mil ISK a month (with current prices) while of course giving you access to use omega skills which may improve your income from something like L4s.

As long as you:

  1. can afford a month of omega time

  2. and you have no more skills which you absolutely need to train for what you mostly do in Eve

  3. and you’re prepared for the attribute remap of your character (max into 1st attribute and the rest into 2nd) and you can invest into 2x Standard +4 implants (Cybernetics skill to 4 and 42mil ISK max at current Jita price) and train the skills over and over that use the remapped attributes

  4. and you can save around 500mil in the first month and 450mil each month for the next 3 months, of which 450mil investment, most of it comes back to you for each of that 3 months and the real price to pay for each of that 3 months is literally 40mil a month to stay omega, for the average total 155mil a month to stay omega for all 4 months cycle

  5. and you can be arsed to get your character in a travel frigate to Perimeter (1j from Jita) once a month, to trade for 2h max at one of trade citadels there, to buy skill extractors (1 is enough to kickstart the trade), then changing them into skill injectors and selling those

  6. and of course your character has over 5mil Skill Points

…then you can SP farm your character to stay omega at all times. 6 steps that are way easier to do than describe them. Well you can’t avoid this if mission changes go live and it sucks for you but at the same time if you follow this steps you can enjoy omega with all it’s benefits for very little ISK compared to market price of 500 PLEX.

the health of eve depend on the amount of players playing the game and alphas are a good portion of eve health you guys are not going for a good direction cause the mission are not the problem you should realise that in the isk moves on eve that you post lately.

You raise a great point. The major problem as I see it is that botters are using memory injection and memory reading techniques to bypass the UI completely. There are methods of detecting even this, and perhaps it is time that the client used protected memory to prevent it. Here’s hope for the 64bit client.
Nevertheless, botters usually respond to stimulus in an identical manner, maybe with a random injection term… this should be easy to spot.

You are missing my point, so please don’t lump me into your reply. I am aware of the skill extractor trade. I am aware it’s possible to maintain Omega through other means. But do I actually enjoy those means? Is that the content I want to do to pay for my PLEX? Not so much. I mean, sure, I could possibly do L4’s after the fact to maintain my Omega, but the point is, L4 security missions are the content I wanted to do to get the ISK to get the PLEX. I didn’t want to have to do something else first to do the content I want / enjoy doing. I wanted to go straight to L4 missions as a means to start / maintain Omega. That would have been satisfying. Having to find a workaround or another method altogether to reach the content I want leaves a bad taste.

Buy plex… because the botters are all about to plex their L4 accounts… which CCP doesn’t mind because then plex goes up, which means more subs vs plexers which is revenue stream.

And how many days of grind you need to earn current over 1,8bil to be able to buy that plex?
How many total hours of selling LP items?
Last time I calculated that, with my Domi fit at the time it was 15 days of playing 1 or 2 hours a day to get there. But I give you the solution of 1-2h per month to get there.
You will use market anyway to get isk for plex and to buy that plex.

I am aware people are lazy so they would rather quit the game than find ways to stay, ways which aren’t even hard. And omega isn’t limited to just L4s.
Yes, sure, it isn’t fair null guys in their VNIs still don’t have to pay. But maybe this means they should be affected by some change as well.
