Devblog: Security Update - Q1 2019

If PLEX goes up in ISK, CCP has less revenue stream. Remember PLEX is more expensive than subs, and if a single PLEX can buy more, less are purchased for RL money.

“And how many days of grind
” When the missions are what I want to be doing, I don’t mind the time it takes. The amount of time something takes is not my limiting factor. It’s whether or not I enjoy spending that time doing what I want to do in the way I want to do it. And this change, putting L4 missions behind Omega blocks my ability to do what I wanted to do in the method I wanted to do it, and I disagree with it, especially as a means to stop botters. That’s all.

It doesn’t matter at all because if you buy plex from market then somebody paid real cash to get it and put in the market.

It’s a start. L4 and L5 mission ban on Alphas hits them in their ISK wallet. Unfortunately that would include some legitimate Alpha players. Collateral damage, I guess.

I think however what would help is giving players advisory tips on how to spot botting. I really couldn’t recognize it except for maybe seeing many ship types with same fits and or similar names, but then that could just be a multiboxing player.

Maybe CCP can promote something like " if you suspect a botter don’t try to apprehend the botter yourself. Report the botter to CONCORD instead. Reports successfully leading to the arrest and prosecution of a botter can lead to a reward"

Make it tongue-and-cheek like a McGruff the crime dog campaign (take a bite out of crime!)

@CCP_Falcon: Out of curiosity, what tools do alliance leaders have that can tell them whether or not a renter is botting?

And are alliance leaders getting paid by CCP to do the job the security team is supposed to do?

Funny thing about this change is that it incentivizes landlords renting to botters to take payment out of game because CCP can’t reverse that.

So why should we care if you leave again ?

Haha, yeah right.

Complexes are the entire mechanic that’s supposed to get people doing FW in the first place. Before that, it was just loyalists shooting one another for the fights. After the addition of plexes, it’s been farmers running away from loyalists.

Bots are a symptom, not the cause.

Because the goal of F2P was to put people in space. People in space == people you can shoot. Population density matters when attempting to keep a primarily PvP game viable.

When I actually need to, I SP farm for omega for way more than a year now, I don’t spend real cash on Eve for that time. While I was looking to trying alpha skill set on L4s, being denied that doesn’t change that much to me. Although it is strange L4s are targeted 1st and doing security L4s is easier to bot than doing null anomalies in VNI / Myrmidon / Gila.

Lol, people complaining about cutting free to play options. CCP don’t get money from you. You want to have a cookie and eat a cookie. EvE is not free. EvE has infinite trial option. If you want whole package, pay or plex. If removing L4 and L5 missions will help with botting problem good for alphas, plex won’t be sucked from market by those supers and rorqual bots.

Who do you fool around, this is peanuts:

Here are the current numbers just as we’re passing the half way point of this quarter:

* 1350 account bans for account hacking.
* 4102 account bans for botting related activities.
* 1205 account bans for RMT related activities.

Wow, really? How cold and rude. And who does ‘we’ mean, anyway? Maybe you care because once I start buying PLEX, I won’t be a free player any more? Regardless, whether someone else buys PLEX with cash and I buy it with ISK from them, or I buy PLEX myself, what’s the difference? Money is money, earned one way or the other. I just like the free to play model because I think the paid access model is silly. I don’t like having to maintain a subscription just to keep access to my stuff, characters, accounts, etc

Thank you! Good point!

After reading all of this I was wondering if there was any specific way one could spot this type of thing and identify it? How would I as a player be able to spot a bot or RMT?

Actually I now was thinking

Why CCP stops alpha missioners from doing lvl 4 missions in high sec, when nearly all ISK from rats comes from NULL.

I cant understand why CCP does nothing to this problem of ratting in null. There botters will rat in gilas like they used to do it.

my question too.

Those ratters and botters are in bed width CCP for years. That is a way how they produce glorious space battles and receive guinness records. Some kind of mutual understanding.
