Alright, I’ve removed a large number of off topic posts, posts made in bad faith, rule violating posts and everything in between. I’m going to ask the lot of you to keep it civil, on topic, follow all the rules and all that, or I’ll start handing out warnings and the like. Thank you.
“Review” A wise idea.
Saknarðu lengur morgunverðar?
Always, but I don’t speak icelandic.
Well, damm, I thought I had you. Guess I’ll still need to keep trying!

This is already a miss-step. May the gods have mercy.
The only control is self control.
You admit CCP Games are stewards and players really drove the culture.
You can either:
- Do nothing different
- Go tightfisted and try to do actions as a company (expensive in human labor costs and time, draconian moderation that drives players away)
- Empower individual capsules to take moderation into their own hands. As a company, use creator support to promote grassroots voices you prefer, and just be more present in the community (doesn’t require content)
My vote is on 3, but that’s based on my experience designing Software in federated form, where moderation tools for self/community helps.
What this could look like in practice:
- making reporting tools prominent (1-click client button, right click menu, etc)
- better in game block listing (beyond auto-denying convos from corps / alliances, and pilots)
- ability for corps to share corp level blocklists
- supporting and promoting creator programs more prominently, and having them in your damn forums.
- your own participation in, and better moderation of, your own damn forums (i don’t have a reddit account and that cripples my ability to communicate with CCP, WTF)
- too tired to think of more
When I think of early RIOT and how they engaged their community out of the LoL beta, it is a world of difference to the past 15 years of CCP. Even though the LoL community was complete garbage they stuck through and tried really hard to carve a constructive space for players. I say this as someone who had their real name attached to one of a few winners of LoL’s first ever contest (and still have the old emails from “Nikasaur” Nikita Harper to boot proving I was one of the winners). Never was doxxed/targeted personally despite every LoL match chat being completely venomous.
How exactly does a block button prevent sexual assault, grooming or doxing?
Does that block button prevent players calling other’s places of work or family?
Because that is the kind of “abuse” referenced in the statement.
Not mean words in chat.
So your rule/guideline states that if a player is found to have harassed or abused someone they are not welcome at events, but you’re still A-Ok with them continuing to be paying customers…
Got it.
That’s pretty ridiculous. Can’t let ethics get in the way of cold hard cash.
I think the way grown ups should deal with assholes who are intentionally causing physical or psychological harm to others is not to stand by and continue to allow it to happen, but rather to take appropriate action to correct the problem. It’s sure as hell not appropriate to blame the victim, unless their response also violates standards or rules, and even then it does not excuse the behaviors that provoked them.
What those corrective actions are or should be is different in different contexts, and I believe we are here to discuss ideas around how to deal with these unfortunate circumstances in the most effective or appropriate way.
It’s true that in a competitive environment, especially one with some degree of anonymity, some people are going to let out their worst inner selfish sociopathic toddler tantrums, regardless of their actual age. The online pissy fights can become pretty epic, and it’s disgusting. I don’t have an answer for that, sadly.
But when it crosses the line into behavior that targets people, rather than toons, it’s gone off the rails, and it can’t be tolerated, and it can’t be seen to be tolerated, because that just encourages more of the same. It’s never going to be perfect, and the administrators of a game aren’t in a position to render legal judgments, but they are sure as hell in a position to refuse service to anyone who is causing problems on their private property, even when that property is “virtual”.
I also wholly support any effort to gather evidence of crimes or torts to forward to appropriate legal authorities and courts, whether said actions occur at a real world event or over communication services owned or managed by CCP.
Maybe that’s as good as it gets. In the absence of any consensus among the community to change the culture that tolerates such behavior, there’s really little else to be done that I can see. Even in a conversation about how to address serious dangers to real people, I’ve seen more rehashing of old grudges, macho posturing about whiny victims needing to suck it up and accept abuse, and thinly veiled trolling than actual ideas.
I’m afraid this strengthens my trust in my own approach, which is to play the game as a single player, communicating with nobody, for a few weeks each year. Then when the inevitable disgust with the “community” sets in, I cancel the subscription again and go do something more uplifting until the urge to pew pew some more pretend space pirates overcomes the fading sense of nausea at immersing myself in this cesspool again.
I don’t even know why I bothered typing all this crap. o7
So what were they and what did you do?
you have a worm hole community that hate women. I have still have transcript records the community is “Holesale Operations” on discord. It is also found under searching on the internet search engines.

To: Kronos Marauder,
Hey, I saw your post in wormholes chat. I would love to talk to you a bit more about wormholes and living with them. If you have discord our corporation discord is Discord. Feel free to join it and I can help you find a corporation in wormhole space at least.

Well, “chink” is a derogatory name for Asians, so it sounded for a second like you were pretty much calling for war against Asians.

All new accounts, Alpha or Omega, should have chat limited to PUBLIC CCP created game channels. No access to player made channels including player corporation chats. No access to DM’s. This way everyone can see what they said. Make it any player under 1 month for Omega accounts, and any player under 1 month AND 5 million SP for Alpha accounts.

Third party contracted support hired by PA separately from CCP required. Noone who plays the game, including all CCP staff, should be making decisions in these situations due to high likelihood of conflict of interest. Reading the Q&A thread by Team Security regarding how they decide who gets banned for “botting” or “RMT” has shown these untrained “support” monkeys have a whole bunch of “rules” and “tools” which they admittedly ignore many times just because they decided they “feel” the person committed an offense. Also, the whole Mittani and Xenuria situations ( as just two examples ) show CCP cannot be trusted to be put in charge of policing the real shitbags in their game’s community.

Verified, and I do mean VERIFIED, not just “suspected”, cases of sexual harassment, doxxing, hate crimes, etc. whether ingame or real life actions connected to the game ( i.e. Fanfest, player gatherings, etc ) mandatorily reported to the authorities at the time action is also taken against the account.
TL;DR
CCP cannot be trusted to handle important support duties for their own games.
Go woke go broke. Whats up next bannign ganking because it hurt someones feelings?
This is a good initiative which as you acknowledge is fraught with difficulty. Let me make one initial comment. One area in social media which is particularly toxic at the moment is that of women’s rights and Trans rights. I will give you examples of this which will be difficult to resolve. I will do this in the form of statements.
Sex is binary and immutable.
There are more than 2 sexes
Women are adult human females
Transwomen are adult human males and are therefore not women.
Transwomen are women.
I am a lesbian Transwoman.
If you get a complaint about anyone making these statements to another player on the ground that they are transphobic or anti female how will you deal with them?
At what point does making one or more of the statements like this breach your guidelines?
