[Discussion] Community Safety in EVE Online

I was talking about the false allegation Phantomite made about me in this thread.

Perhaps you should have asked me what I was referring to if it wasn’t clear, before assuming what I was talking about and bringing my gender, race and sexual orientation into the discussion.

Eve play has long included “meta-gaming”, which includes “my group is far better than your group”, which is about as far as most players with this mentality spend brainpower on it.

“They aren’t part of my Alliance/Corp, meh!” and out comes the ‘metagaming’ ‘propaganda’.

Taking action on information from people who out intolerable behavior is a very far cry from “incentivising snitching”.

EDIT: forgot two words there.

Best to keep your race, gender, etc. to yourself if you don’t want people referencing them.

A) You clearly have no idea just how much modern technology far exceeds Orwell’s vision of a surveillance state.
B) So now expecting the proprietors of a private community to protect the interests of members of that community so that they can make more money off of them is ‘Big Brother’? I reiterate, FFS, never ‘like’ any of my posts.

Not really. Getting someone banned with a doctored screenshot at the right time could be an invaluable strategic Asset, say reinforce timers, or supply operations, cutting off alliances/corps by having those with funds access blocked. Sounds like a big incentive to me.

And yes, I’d hat her have a dozen actual psychopaths in game than a single one unjustly banned

It might be needed thou, but then logs can be adjusted too. Video evidence is on the verge of not being acceptable in court room’s anymore luckily the amount of people that are that good are few and far between but AI is filling that gap quick.

Soon what the hell type of evidence will we even be able to believe if not run by some omni off network surveillance system lets call it Sibyl lol.

Oh boy. I’ve seen how this has completely failed in other online communities. Of course there are going to be harassment in large online community. And people who purposefully, tirelessly and continuously harass an individual obviously should be banned.

However, here’s my issue. When admin starts talking about buzzwords such as “hate speech”, which can mean anything, it’s very easily that things get out of hand. Suddenly the goalpost changes and what was NOT considered hate speech one day can be considered so the next. It’s going to be an increasingly narrow path for discussion and free speech. One example is that some people believe it’s harassment to claim there’s only two genders. Others feel it’s hate speech to be pro-life or hold any conservative opinion.

So my tip to CCP is to stop all the buzzwords and have a simple stance against individual harassment cases.

These days a fifth grader has knowledge and access to deep fake technology, so i wonder why that would be.the context is always relevant too,+refraining from giving the example here)

The difference here is that many of these “incidents” are public. It is not “one person” that sees or reports the behavior.

You obviously have no idea what you are talking about.

Metagaming is when a person uses information they have obtained via out-of-character channels to gain an advantage during a RP situation.

Tribalism is behaviour which is more normative for Humans than considering themselves to be a part of the same species.

That said, in my country, insulting people is a punishable offence, and if the same held true for the EVE ToS, and it was actively enforced, we would either have fewer players throwing insults around, or simply fewer players altogether if they did not. I think that would be a hard pill for people from certain countries to swallow, though, as some people feel entitled to being able to ■■■■ talk people. The main thing is that enforcing civil dialogue would both be a lot of work for CCP and risks losing them paying customers.

How about how i should apologize to women in my life for my views?(which btw, to that commie women, i did to both, and both replied cut the bs)

Reinbursement :stuck_out_tongue: there is your 3rd word. I’m sure someone has already used it.

Eve will never be safe couzy fluffy type of game but we can draw a line so that people know not to cross it.

I’m not sure that Eve Online can be made into the “safe space” some appear to want.

Never apologize for anything. If you’re an a-hole, you’re an a-hole. Own it. It’s worked out pretty well for me so far…

How am I not safe at home on my own computer? I want CCP to make and run a game!, not get political. As usual the crybullies who want to ruin society give their list of rules.

When you get dox’ed let me know if you feel the same way. I’m all up for banter or some dumb ass being a lil toxic but bringing in rl ■■■■ ruins peoples lives.

You knew about this ■■■■ for a decade. Noone cares what y’all want now.
