[Discussion] Community Safety in EVE Online

I hope this is all a big honeypot thread because yikes on trikes there are some awful posts in here.

Let’s just invade the privacy of all our players!

I read you… but then there will be just 41 and I

in absolute deed.

@CCP_Swift Maybe prevention is better than a cure, what if there was a slight detection of certain phrases that if detected it would pop up a message and stop that person from being able to send that message. They will get annoyed after trying to reword it a few times and give up.

That alone might condition those types of players slowly to change their ways.

Not including cuss words but phrases of ill intent something creepy or threatening.

my serious point about this tread
im against speech police
for the real abusers we have the law
most of the examples here are in 2 categories
1 ) trying to silence dissonant opinions
2) agains the law , like doxing …

Realistically the law cannot catch anyone it’s way to difficult, when I got doxed years ago they never found the person and I lost my job becuase of it.

Clear cut rules only result in clear cut circumventing of rules, automated stuff doesn’t work. Let the GM team do it, let them go by “don’t be problematic” while not super specifically stating what that entails allowing the GM’s to detect and act on intent rather than typed words. And if that goes wrong then have an ombudsman step in and overlook.

It’s a human problem that needs a human solution, otherwise you end up in an Orwellian state.

Fair I just like the idea of reducing work load before it even gets to the human stage.

I was thinking the same thing while reading that. That verges on pre-crime or thought crime. You’ll be typing and Aura pops up and says “Are you sure you want to post that?”

I would get creeped out if that happened enough to shock me out of that emotional state tbh, it might have some effect.

Aura “You clearly are not in control atm, all systems are locked while you rethink your actions.”
Arua “O Great, I’m stuck in here with a psyco, would you like me to call the authorities.”

The easiest solution to begin with is to get rid of Alpha accounts. That way players won’t have a completely anonymous throw-away account with which to harass other players. The only players left will be paid accounts, and most of them aren’t going to risk getting their 10+ year account banned for being an asshat or threatening someone.

you have a weird axe to grind against alpha accounts

Fair, but I mean what about just restricting private messages and mails being sent from a alpha account that is less than 1 month old.

No one in their right mind is going to create an account so that 1 month later they can harass someone that they had a tiff with a month ago xD

Except when a longtime account goes Alpha, are you just going to delete them to “prevent” harassment? This toon is six years old, and if i let my sub lapse and CCP or PA or whomever is in charge tossed my account in the trash, I’d be beyond pissed off.

An account being in Alpha State means F all, thinking that the game is better off without them is short sighted and is basically telling the new people who are honestly curious about the game to piss off.

No, like I said, there would be no Alpha status. If your account lapses, you can’t play until you re-sub. Simple as that.

I went alpha and hardly play so that works for me.

You act like that would be an Earth-shattering thing, but that’s exactly the way it worked before Alphas were implemented…

Some of the allegations of misconduct made in the community involved prominent members of the community whose real life names, marital status, employment history, etc., were already known and attributed to their in game persona. It still happened because conditions allowed it to happen. Anonymity had nothing to do with it.
