Their costs don’t always justify our price point. The company does have to absorb some of the hit in the event of cost-of-goods price increases. Otherwise, the company will incur maximum loss if they decide to suddenly pass all the costs to the customer in pursuit of max profit. The player base is already complaining about the added value of an already expensive subscription riddled with microtransactions and creeping elements of pay-to-win. So a great deal of players will be naturally angry about such a high price hike and decide that the new price point simply isn’t worth it.
But you kind of made their point there. It’s a MMO. There are other people. The general idea is that you will play with other players. What EVE allows for is folks that do not want to play with other folks in that manner to play multiple accounts by themselves. But it doesn’t change that it’s an MMO with an expectation that you’re going to interact with other people. There are so many people out there looking for people to play with, while there are so many people out there looking only to play by themselves.
Don’t get me wrong. I have/had two Omega accounts as well as an Alpha account. It will be three Alpha accounts when the subs run out. I prefer not playing with other people. I don’t want to compromise how I want to play to play how they want to play. But I’ve been rethinking that. If I can find a corp that’s not a royal PITA, I might join them with my main as an Alpha to see how things go and possibly try going Omega with one sub. But at the same time, I’d rather just run two or three accounts myself. But not at $40 or $60 to do it. Combination of not being able to afford and not thinking it worth it for what I do in game.
But I can see what they’re talking about with it being a MMO and that expectation to play with others instead of playing by oneself. It’s just not really my thing, and I’m not sure I’m up to trying it. I really enjoy how easy it is to run multiple accounts with EVE-O Preview. The mechanics of EVE just work well for having that time to switch between the accounts and trigger individual commands. I mean, look at HateLesS and the madness he runs, right?. Course, he was looking at adding another account before this change and will now be looking at reducing them instead (last I heard, may have changed since).
I’m going to have to see if I can get over my dislike of other people in general enough to play with some that might not be that bad. But only as an Alpha to start. If it works out, I’ll go Omega again on the main. If not, well, yeah, no Omega for me. $30 is worth it to run two accounts by myself, but $20 is not worth it to run one account by myself. $40 is not. I mean, without the price hikes, I could have gone to three at $45 (and there’s a part of me that feels that would have been worth it). $60 is definitely not worth it. That’s paying for four accounts and only getting to play three.
Heh, sorry if I repeated myself. I’m really trying to force myself that it will be okay to play with other people (that all my previous bad experiences in various games will not be the same this time around). So yeah, I’m repeating myself for myself.
They delivered alright. Endless shitty changes. Then price hikes.
tell CCP to add new ships and more combat mechanics + weapons
i would already be happy if they use the money they make with Eve Online to improve eve online,
instead of produceing and failing another dust, blockchain adventure, or whatever other games they dumped the money on the last years (yeah i did look away and couldnt watch them all…) and whatever they come up next
if the big suprise is they do it again i lose it
and laugh my a** off
If you think all the changes they have done are “shitty”, why did you stay?
long live eve online and goodbye , i doubt it tho
Yeah. There are a few things you can do alone, but they aren’t much fun if you are thinking “game.” It mostly requires being in a corps or getting in on a bunch of NPSI type ops.
Maybe NPC corps could be given actual functions other than being what’s on your Eve birth certificate. Maybe allow elections for leader in NPC corps for leaders (Omega only). Or BETTER, election by combat in the Trig arenas, or straight skill point number, or standing with the npc corps/agents, or isk bribery to CCP (Caldari!!), or religious fervor (I dunno. Amarr thing), or fighting for “freedom” (how does one measure that??) in Minmatar, There are a TON of things in Eve to which complex, human and software functions can be attached to “add content” (content = reasons to load and shoot the guns, ewar, reps, boots, etc.)
Here’s a possible distinction Eve hardcores might think on.
Fake Content > Events about killing NPC’s.
Real Content > Reasons and arrangements to go head to head with humans.
Player run “NPC” corps would be great. IMO, there should be extremely few NPCs is EVE and control over those stations actually contested (via some mechanic). Too much of NE is not player driven…heck even SBs are next to pointless other than the ISK costs.
…anyhow…down with NPCs…
Player-run Non-Player Character corps.
Okay then…
Sigh…
Non destructible station in HS/LS tagged as a NPC but profits from sales of whatever that NPC corp offers goes to the player corp controlling the station…you know how TTT and other hubs generally work (4-4 should be closed IMO). Mechanics could be used to limit dominance or monopolization.
Hope that helps…
Payed ahead as much as my trust in CCP is and my hopes this game will be interesting to me… while discount works.
-
Really hope CCP would come up with Multi-account discounts
-
And freaking ADD MORE TITAN HULLS!!! Screw the reflections - Were are sexy ships? SISTERS TITAN, ANGEL TITAN… CMOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOON
Wait hold up, who used an illegal term? And also, do you mind explaining what the term was? For instance, don’t ■■■■■■■ tell me that it was cake, i might just spit it out laughing my guts out.
So, thanks for really being a hippo. Critical of you, yes, larger in real life, MOST definitely. Good job sir/mam/whatever.
Many would support your comment about “The Big Ask” and have some sort of discount to players who Omega their main and also rely on alts to support their main pilot.
A player can’t be in two locations at the same time or very short amount of time and sometimes jump clones, home city location changes or even travel via whs and jumping can’t be the only way of obtaining current intel so we either rely on other players or third party websites to help show us such intel weither it is zkill dotmaps or market hub data is not always as smooth as it might seem.
Summer is coming, no one want to play EVE on summer…
Russian’s gone
Subs rise
This will be a domino effect
bb, EVE
A means for folks how have trouble getting into corps a means to fleet up, chat up, team up without begging someone to play with them.
Now that I think of it, folks can do most of that anyway from an NPC corps. But it would be nice to have a structure and varying methods of deciding whether to allow friendly fire, and even war decs against other NPC corps and or player corps.
Sometimes the type of personality that wants to spin up a corps and become a thing is the type of personality that irritates the snot out of other folks. Eve itself is a big mishmash of players and NPCs. Why not at the Corps level. Just take the onerous bureaucratic admin out of the equation.

Also the format of the EVE forums have changed over the years, necessitating in “new” accounts. I for one do not remember this particular style when I left late 2013. Perhaps one reason for the forum change was to delete the “Summer of Rage” posts of which I was vociferously a part of?
So, go ahead and click my name and see that I joined these forums on Apr 11 2022…but then I challenge you to input my name into zkill or eve-skills to see how old this account really is.
According to zkill Yaxche was around in Sep 2014.
I am unsure when the forums changed. Regarding the original topic, I have already stated my thoughts.
Hi Arrendis, thanks for your rebuttal! It was interesting to read your well-considered point of view. We agree, at least, upon the poor presentation of this issue.
But, here’s the thing; either the individuals and entities involved in managing such decisions were completely ignorant of the implications (or mistakenly ignored them) and are now surprised at the outcome -
Or CCP knows perfectly well what it’s doing, what the damage is likely to be, and believes that it can absorb the opprobrium.
I do incline towards the latter - especially in the face of what a representative of the current CSM has written; that ‘they’ have told CCP for some time the likely response from some of the playerbase.
But of course, I care not a whit! I don’t have expectations of CCP beyond their providing me with a product I want at a price I’m willing to pay.
You said “bait and switch” which in many judications is an illegal sales/financial tactic. If you accuse CCP of this you could be accusing them of a crime.
I said bait and switch and I stand by it.
The bait: now a discount with monthly recurring at a certain price.
The switch: well that is not the price, because the recurring at the advertised price will never occur
You can only say that it was not a bait and switch if the information about the price increase was included with the information about the current discount.
And please enlighten us Ran what legal text you’ve found uses the term “bait and switch” and says it is illegal.
