[Discussion] PLEX and Omega price changes feedback thread

Miners never really “quit” EVE. The addiction to velsdpar snd scordite is too strong. You’ll be back!

Ive seen hundreds of people come onto this thread and say theyve unsubbed anywhere from 3 to 9 accounts. But i only see the same 3 faces in here defending the price increase. I wonder why that is…

So i was contemplating re-subbing my accounts, i was one of those that left that game when you starting ignoring players like myself who dumped 16+ years into this game, only for you to start making it a chore to play,.

I can rattle off 16+ years worth of shitty choices that slowly but surely bled this game of its player base and now you want to charge players new and old $20USD for the privilege?..having provided nothing meaningful content wise for god knows how many years? …16 +years of dealings with you as a developer…your recent track record (5-6 years) does not inspire a lot of confidence that there will be anything remotely worth the 33% markup revealed at fanfest.

Anyways… i have just pulled the pin on my sub’s…i have been holding onto them for a few years now on the hope that you’d get your s**t together and give me a reason to come back.

No, it is known as sarcasm. @ntopios never posts anything that is not dripping with sarcasm because, I presume, that way he can always avoid censorship by overzealous ISD types… He is a master of it.

Nice troll GG.

They should look to fix that then so it becomes enjoyable quicker.

They are doing just that, they sell expert systems and packs and skill points and PLEX.

Because people don’t like to pay more for things…especially if they feel no proportional increase in value.

Not for me, i cant pay that Price so how shall i come online without a Subscribtion hm?

Alpha, SP-farm or PLEX…

The potential problem for options two and three is the degree to which Plex availability and costs will be affected by the planned price hike. Skill extractors only enter the market place via Plex. If a lot less Plex is bought with real money, less Plex will be available to buy for ISK, fewer skill extractors will be available. It will be interesting to see whether the trade in Plex is affected as much as the number of Omega subscriptions.

Agreed. The market is borked ATM thanks to this and probably wont chill until the end of May sadly. The announcements at FF might (hopefully) counter the negativity and bring some back and/or add more new players to counter…might…

Right now might not be the best time to start SP farming but it’s always a good time to be prepping new accounts for when they can be brought online.

Well, everyone can have their own view and feeling and point of view.
thats yours.
mine is:
i if i play a subscription based game i want to pay for it every month to enjoy the game without getting milked even more for (soon) rl money insurance, exchangeing rl money for plex and plex into isk just couse the (below) average player cant make enought isk just with playing to keep up playing just with the sub. <— i know the sentence is garbage but i let is be like that to make a statement!

i mean that would be totally fine without subscription in a f2p game with lots of microtransactions.

and i give CCP that if you try to be a f2p AND a subscription based game at the same time… its getting complecated… and its not easy.

Last year i did buy the 1 yr subscription, i bought 6 month of MCT and a few packs couse i did want to try a few new things. so i gladly payed what? 200$? 250$? all good.

That was already more or at least nearly 20$ per month.
And even after seeing the pcu decreseing and decresing couse -at least it seems- ccp is always looking for make things worse for player to make them buy more and more with rl money while still getting money out of subs, just to let them have fun.

And i dont even start with what they did with the money instead of give something back to eve just couse they thought eve is perfect as it is.
even if more and more ppl leave and less and less ppl play and no one can imagein how it comes.
i mean… cant be couse of ccp… its just the stupid player - i get it.

(i would say its ccp and the player maybe 70/30- 50/50 - but thats just what i personally think and nothing objectiv)

But well they have choosen their path and so be it.
Ive done what i felt was fine for me and loseing even more targ… friends
which have less money or less success or a life.
And blame them for being poor or exclude them while the game is already bleeding for a while…
dont feel right and i dont want to support it… so i choose to take things to a hold for now at least… i wont abandon ship but i am concermed-

but i wont extra hard blame ccp couse i couldnt come up with the best alternativ idea…
and we dont know everything for sure,
most is just own feeling,
own point of view and no/bad communication…
but would hope there is still an alternative comeing,
i am close to lose my remaining trust on ccp,
but i will wait at least my remaining 59 days / for the fanfest.

AND FFS… sorry that got way to long.
and you made me crazy couse while writing i did try to keep up reading…

i´d like the idea of haveing alternative 7/14/21 days of omega or so like @Jesse_W_James mentioned

about energy, in my country … yeah everything is getting more expensive… but for privat homes its waaay worse than for the industry.
Couse goverment always gave the industry benefits. - just looked it up couse i didnt have actual numbers: you pay less per kwh the more you use (#1) and industry pays 15-30% taxes while private homes have to pay 50%.

so yeah its bad, but at least at me, they shouldnt cry as loud as they do imo.
What they have to pay more for energy even if its a way lower increse for them than for me, is redirected anyway to the coustumer or goverment anyway (couse they get aid for that too) so… with plesure your welcome raises the finger to the industry ( i know there is surely even more but i dont feel like expanding that even more or getting a degree for that…+ sorry for getting kinda out of topic with that)

now i completely lost the point… but its more than enought… my work is done for today

i dont blame anyone and i am not sad if no one reads that wall of text,
dont even know if anyone could understand it
but its out and thanks for that

Why should any assets that provide income to players be indestructible?

Also, I promise, if all currently NPC stations could be controlled by player groups… they’d all be controlled by null blocs. Every. Last. One. And we’d do it cooperatively, splitting up the profits between us, just like we do with the TTT.

And if you think there are mechanics that would limit dominance or monopolization, you’re nuts. There is literally nothing you could do that would prevent us from putting each station under the control of a different corp/alliance made specifically to own that station, while still dropping our combined numbers on anyone who tries to take it.

Believe me, the whole thing’s been discussed before, and every time, it comes down to the simple fact that there is absolutely nothing that small groups can do in EVE Online that bigger, more organized, well-run groups cannot do better, more frequently. And as soon as you think you’ve found something to prove me wrong, ask yourself how you stop the bigger group from intentionally acting like multiple small groups—or even using alts to be multiple small groups.

A) As you point out, the basics there are already available.
B) re: wardecing other NPC and player corps: Try the Faction Warfare militias.

But will you Mr Galactus? Last time I saw you’d rage quit and gone off to play with 12-year old on Fornite.

Unsub and not play are not the same thing, remember that. I won’t pay the new prices but I will log in to hang out and chat as an Alpha pilot.

Well in this hypothetical example, lore wise I would say that they are Concorde protected much like current NPC station (LP rewards for example). The difference being that corps would fight over the right to run the LP program, not the station itself.

So, as this is a HS conflict driver, let Concorde set the rule of ownership to something like

  • Corp has no more than 25 pilots (this varies based on station type)
  • Cannot be in an alliance
  • Cannot ask for help if WDed
  • Can only run one NPC station per corp
  • I’m sure there are more that can be added but this limits things a lot

How’s that?

I tend to agree with you on that, but I do consider that a problem. I consider it a problem because it shows a number of potential causes for concern.

First, it demonstrates really poor business sense. MMOs are all about the sunk cost fallacy: you’ve invested time and effort, so keep investing. Well, if I want to invest in something, I want to invest in something that will be there to see my investment pay off. If management’s demonstrating bad business sense, that’s worrisome.

It’s especially worrisome if management has a history of bad business sense and chasing after vanity projects. For example: massively investing in a virtual reality game only to let development stagnate and then sell the game and the part of the company responsible for making it successful. Or spending years developing a first person shooter, only to commit to an exclusive distribution scheme for one console that’s already being phased out, to the extent that the game cannot even be ported over to the next generation of the same console, or even played in a backwards-compatibility mode on the newer console.

We could also question the business sense of beginning development of not one, not two, but three different follow-on FPS games, only to cancel each one as soon as they begin to approach a working product. Especially in a company that engaged in exactly that behavior previously, while attempting to develop a second MMO, only to let the development cycle get to ‘we have the first working build’ and then completely change the requirements so the development team needs to start over from scratch… as many as half a dozen times, before finally shutting down not just the development of that MMO, but the entire office and staff the company acquired specifically to develop that IP1. Or taking someone in the finance and accounting division, with no actual game development experience, and no experience with the company’s flagship product, and putting them in charge of a massive overhaul of that flagship product’s development cycle.

So, you know, that’s all cause for concern, because if I’m going to invest time, labor, and $$ into EVE, I want EVE to continue existing, and CCP’s got a track record that’s basically ‘EVE survives because its players are addicts, and everything else fails’, and for the last 3 years, EVE’s been bleeding customers, and the only thing offsetting that has been increased multibox activity. Except this change directly hits the multiboxers CCP’s actively targeted and encouraged players to be for years. So this one’s got a potential downside that is… considerably worse than anything since the Blackout (and that divot is still visible on EVE-Offline’s tracking numbers).

And how much of that product involves interaction—however indirect—with other customers? What happens to that product when the active user count drops to below levels that allow for a sustainable market? What happens when you’re spending so much time looking for someone to shoot, you never actually get around to shooting someone? Genesis ain’t exactly the beating heart of highsec as it is, y’know?

So, re: transparency: CCP’s devblog and email say the price increase is due to one thing. CCP’s actual representative in a Q&A initiated by CCP on CCP’s discord server said the price increase is due to something else.

Since when is contradictory messaging and obfuscation ‘transparency’?

Maybe in the Netherlands, but not here. Here, it’s businesses that get all the breaks.

AHAHAHAHAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAHAHAHAHAHAHA.

Yeah, great idea. If you only watch a show where the guy in charge expressly rejected the idea of ever asking CCP a difficult question or allowing anyone to challenge CCP’s decisions, you’d totally get to the truth!

1. World of Darkness, in case you don’t know, where CCP acquired White Wolf Game Studios, staffed up on programmers for the (formerly White Wolf) Atlanta office, jerked them around for 2 years with a constantly-changing list of requirements for the WoD MMO, then tasked them with doing the art and design work for the EVE Captain’s Quarters while working on World of Darkness, and finally shut down WoD development and closed the Atlanta office completely, letting the entire WoD IP sit idle after (pre-CCP) Vampire the Masquerade: Bloodlines—which was on-par with Fallout, KOTOR, and Morrowind and should have spawned an entire (and very bankable) series like those games—until they sold it all off to Paradox, who managed to get Bloodlines 2 into development within a year.

And what prevents Horde, with 30,576 characters (so figure roughly 8-10k actual people) from spinning up say… 500 25-man alphaclone alt-corps? That’s less than 2 alts per member. A single alpha account can have 3 alts, so if even half of them do it, that’s an effortless 12-15k alts right there.

Again poor economics at CCP. Huge price increase without anything behind it. You claim cost of production and stuff but everything is from a Country that uses Geothermal energy (your not burning OIL for you electricity CCP!!) so you have not been effected by ‘commodity costs’ for an online game and the servers that you might claim. You so proudly show your videos of ‘no downtime’ with your staff at a volcano and showing off the coolness of your Country’s power source, but now you claim higher costs?? YOU’RE just taking advantage of the global inflation and saying yeah it’s costing my engineers more in gas prices to drive to the office (why still do that anyway!!) so let me pass that over to the customers, like the freighter costs lately. Maybe your new overlords at Pearl Abyss have higher costs to run their servers but you don’t!!! Also your price jump is ridiculous, the global inflation is not 30% so what’s your rational for that nonsense???
