[Discussion] PLEX and Omega price changes feedback thread

I know this isn’t a popular view, but I’m potentially ok with the price increase. This is a game with a small user base. If we want new content, it is going to cost more than MMOs with large user bases. CCP already makes two options available for people who have difficulty paying: plexing and free-to-play mode.

To me, the issues are more around the content. If the money is really going to content in EvE (not to profit taking or developing some other game), and the content really comes soon (no “tm” soon), and the content is stuff people actually like (no nerfing, events or monocles), then I’m good with the price increase. If any of those three is not true, then I’m against it.

I thought you meant ingame nfts sorry.

I could agree with every word in that except “events”. People actually do like events. I don’t like most of them personally but other people do: log-in numbers go up, activity in event systems go up.

Ok here is a way to look at it… If I had a bad record of not following thru and making the game better and I came out and said pay me for 2 years in advance and i’ll give u something not telling u what it is would u do it .? I sure as hell would not

So, lemme go upthread to get you the chart Guy Games linked…

So, see the two there with the $8.33 monthly price if you use the annual option?

They are each smaller than EVE Online, and they each run multiple server instances—and in the case of LotRO, servers with extremely expansive maps. So the ‘it’s a small user base’ argument is inherently flawed. And that’s before we get into the very basic point that the fact that it’s a small customer base is precisely the reason CCP needs to broaden their appeal, not raise the speedbumps by 33%.

In terms of business strategy, this is very much the opposite of ‘good business sense’: they are looking to squeeze more money from a small customer base, and doing it in a way guaranteed to drive more of those customers away.

Fair enough. I’m not saying they should not have events, nerfing or monocles so much as I’m saying, in my book, none of those things justify a $5/month increase in price. For $5/month, I would ideally want something on par with the introduction of wormholes.

:sigh: ‘in game nfts’ already exist in the only form they were ever going to exist: every object in your hangar. You ‘own’ it, and when it blows up, it’s gone. You can’t just duplicate it endlessly. It needs to be replaced with an expenditure of time/effort of ISK. That is the only form of NFT that was ever going to be in-game. At no point was CCP going to allow anyone else to actually have a claim of owning anything in the Tranquility data. They can’t, because if you, the customer, were to own something that exists as an in-game construct, then anything that happens in-game to reduce the real-world value of that construct would potentially open CCP up to lawsuits.

The thing everyone likes to think Hilmar said they wouldn’t do WAS NEVER GOING TO HAPPEN.

If they would fix the overview not selecting the next gate in route 15% of the time and the bug that stops the audio alert when an asteroid is depleted then I would be happy with the price increase  Until then not so much.

Yeh times are not hard enough on us working class types ffs, if you want more revenue from the players that can afford it why not do better packs, with sp/skins, clothing, training aids, implants and stuff, for a FAIR price, fans would lap them up, instead your going to make life harder for probably 50% or more of your player base, i imagine lots like me will be stripping sp from their lesser used toons to plex their accounts. Bad move right now this is.

You make a valid point. Eggs you need, gaming is something you want. During the depression the entertainment industry [Movies, plays. concerts] still thrived because it was actually a need. Gaming is only one part of the entertainment industry and there is a lot of it out there for free or one time buy in.
CCP/PA may come out on top in this decision. If they’ve managed to keep a major update under wraps and drop it at Fan Fest, people thirsty for a big change to a beloved game will pay. If however its all promise and no substance, a very significant fall off in revenue will very likely result when current subs elapse.

i didnt read everything… was just at some “its like public transportation there you get the same and have to pay more too” bs…
Ok, taken that as example.

Takeing how public transport was at me (not inside city but city sourrundings)
It was profitable… or at least break even for long time. many did use it.
Than the Quality start to suffer couse they start getting greedy or dont invest anymore.
Than they incresed the Price… less ppl use it couse getting your own car is getting cheaper.
Than they cancelled some lines so you HAVE to use car and CANT use public transport anymore.
Many Public Transportations are only still alive around where i live couse the gouverment stepped in and they get widely payed with taxes to keep the required minimum of 3 Busses per day alive… even if they are most of the time empty.
And thats the point

Sounds like eve right?

So that shows increseing the price, when ppl are already leaveing without increseing service first isnt really smart… lowering it to get the bus full would increse income with the same bus driving (so without more than previous cost)

And without wasteing money on other sh** there -maybe- wouldnt even the need for a raise or at least not as steep.
but thats a management issue.

If anything, MMOs should be on the more affordable end of the spectrum for most folks. If I can get 20 hours of entertainment a week for the price of a single 2hr movie each month…

Sigh. Touche.

Hilarious. “WHAT!! I CAN’T SHOOT THE GUNS ON THIS CATALYST!!”

It’s not complicated, Dan – they offer a product and have assigned a fee for it based on their expenses and a profit margin they feel is reasonable. Every customer simply balances the cost against the benefit and makes a decision about whether or not it’s worth it to them.

Whether or not CCP has added interesting content or made positive changes is a subjective question. I’m certainly not a fan of everything they’ve done in the last couple years, but I also recognize every game goes through evolutionary missteps. While they experiment with content, however, expenses don’t just disappear. The bills have to be paid if they’re going to remain viable, and inflation is an unavoidable reality of our economy.

Anyone arguing that a modest price increase for the first time in 18 years is unreasonable has either never known the responsibility of ensuring a large staff gets their paycheque, or their perception of the economic realities of the world has been distorted by youthful entitlement and/or all the free content out there that makes some consumers pause when a service provider has the audacity to demand fair compensation for their time and talent.

And Dan, we’re not kids in a playground, so ensuring my opinion conforms with that of ‘the room’ really isn’t on my mind. I’m simply offering a different opinion on a company making a reasonable move to compensate and retain staff in a booming job market.

the Q and A session was quite informative. it confirmed that vague promises are still the mainstay while history has shown us that they really dont deliver content , BUT we should still trust them that it will all be worth it. why bother with such unhelpful sessions?

I didn’t say that. That was the quote of the dude I responded to.
