[Discussion] PLEX and Omega price changes feedback thread

This is still running guys , feel free to chime in.

Wellll, they have not actually made bank yet have they? If the people on this forum are any indicator then no, they have not. And no, they will not make bank. You cannot make bank when your source of income dries up.

Making bank is a future endeavor. It does not happen till later in any cycle. It does not happen right away, and any money made in the past does not count toward it. Its money already made and spent.

I am referring to the future now. Making bank in the past is money in the past. Resting on your laurels because you made bank in the past is a good way to not make bank in the future. They raised the price so I unsubbed. I had two days left on one account. The only good thing to come out of this for me is that I was able to ward off the money spent on something I no longer feel I can afford.

Come May the price goes way up. I suppose I will keep one account open. But one. You lost five accounts. That is not making bank, unless you lower the bar. Its not emotion or a brag. Its reality. Its disappointment. Its feeling a bit put out. I am not flipping off CCP as I close accounts. Its a feeling that they will be missed. The game will be missed, but it is what it is.

Ummm, to read is to learn. So Pearl Abyss bought EVE back in 2018. Koren-based company.
From my experience in gaming, we can expect more moves toward micro transactions. That is on top of the sub costs. I am glad I do not buy the bells and whistles. Did not care for ship skins or fashions. What I care about is the quality of the graphics and the smooth transition from point A to point B.

In recent years none of my concerns about transitions from point A to B have been addressed. I got the line that is the way eve is. The actuality is the game was coded that way. So things that seemed to be broken were on purpose to supply content. I discovered this after getting what I call the black screen of frustration. It happens when leaving a station. The player sees a black screen as those outside of the station are attacking the ship. The next thing one sees is their floating corpse floating in space before ending up in a clone. Yeah, I have been a meat popsicle a few times. All in all, though I managed to find a place of refuge from the ones that like pvp. So much for finding refuge from the ups and downs of life.

Well, I have noticed that the game has been a bit more jerky lately. I started and Alpha account today, did the whole introduction to Eve bit, and the game hung up, black screened, and jerked from screen to screen. I run a fairly new set up, with a 2080 card and never have problem with streaming content. I do not know if other games will jerk and run rough or not. Its only the past few months that I have noticed this.

They sold their company for $425M…That’s bank…a lot of it.

This is no longer CCP’s direct focus (other than to keep the lights on) as they don’t own EVE any more.

I hope EVE lasts for another 20 years but I think that’s unlikely as the product has been in its terminal phase for a few years now.

ā€œEVE 2ā€ on the other hand… :grinning: Looking forward to that.

Well said, I totally agree.

Except that there’s no sign that PA is enacting any pricing changes on their end, and if this is about EVE’s income, the quarterly earnings reports show EVE’s been very consistent and PA seem happy with where it was.

So no, there’s no indication whatsoever that this is coming from PA.

You think there will be a two? I don’t see it. I think it was a get in, grab what you could then let it die thing. Yeah they made bank when they sold it. I agree. But does anyone at CCP rely on subs to continue to get a pay check? And if Eve is not their main focus then do tell me what it is. I would like to know.

I would think that the good folks that work on the Eve side of things would be feeling a chill down the back, in particularly right now. Companies are closing, the economy is taking a dump, and if you lose your job then what? Where will you go? And why would anyone hire somebody from a now failed company? Is Eve CCP? I do not know. Does CCP care? Did they make so much bank that the workers now longer have to worry about making a check? You tell me. Maybe all the workers that made eve work got a piece of that bank. Maybe that is it.

Also, no to this, too. CCP did not hit their performance goals, so they did not get the other $200 million.

Considering that on his Q&A (soundcloud linked upthread) CCP Paragon said they were also going to have sales, and the price increase is really because Russian players can’t pay right now… yeah, gonna say ā€˜the first bit’ there.

Unsubbed 6 accounts. Vote with your wallet, in the past 16 years I’ve only unsubbed one other time and thats when they took the ore from the moons in high sec for the mining changes a couple of years ago.

I love it when someone such as yourself can give concise answers to questions, and also shutdown arguments from those out for a troll. You seem to be up on things in game. All I have to go on is gut feelings and what has happened to me on the personal level. I do not have much of an argument other than that. That Ran Yamguchi toon seems dead set on defending CCP, or whatever. Maybe he/she just likes to stir the pot, or maybe likes a good jaw session. Nothing wrong with that, but your facts nailed him/her with a broad side. Arrendis salvo of large knowledge artillery smashes Yamaguchis reply with 1000 DPS.

PA bought it for a reason. The tech, the IP and as they kept the team…

I think it’s very, very hard to resurrect a product near the end of it’s life cycle (heck it’s in the description) but it’s not hard to launch a new iteration of said product and restart the cycle. EVE is dying a slow death and the body is pretty toxic at this point BUT the interest for space MMOs is bigger than ever and IMO PA is going to make a new grab for a piece of the pie.

I find it very, very interesting that CCP is putting out hiring notices when most would say that the game is on it’s last legs…then why are they hiring? That might be why CCP employees are ok with the current direction of EVE as they know what is coming…

…or maybe I’m delusional…hummm…probably that.

Why keep the team around if the cash cow dies? It would be something to see, but having a hard time seeing that right now. No offense to you, but if they kill it off why would anyone bother to try out Eve 2.0? I don’t think bitter vets will give it another chance. New players maybe, but are they having a hard time keeping them around? I think its the long term players that make or break a game.

I thought it was $425M + targets so…never read anything to the contrary or failed goals so can only go with what I have read.

You will end up selling HƦttuspil again to fund operating costs.

I just read this: https://www.reddit.com/r/Eve/comments/2krqn7/eli5_does_ccp_make_a_profit_is_eve_online_growing/

If that’s the issue, then CCP needs to focus on things to further improve the game. People would invest more if the game was easier to learn. As someone who helps new players learn the game, I know how impossible it is for many players to learn. Of all the players I work with in the Mentor department, I think I have a retention rate of about 50% - and this is from a department that helps players on a 1-on-1 basis! If you consider how many don’t join Eve University or any other major learning group, that’s a dire on-boarding experience. Even though Eve has come a long way with onboarding, it’s still a literal mountain to climb to learn the game. One of the biggest issues was ISK inflationary pressures during the (badly needed) scarcity changes, which made it even harder to get started. Hopefully now with scarcity ending, we will see it get easier for new players to succeed - and thus better financials for CCP as a whole. They also need to stop trying to spin off EVE into other projects when they should focus on improving their core game.

EVE is a double-edged sword in that what makes it great also makes if monolithic. Problems have been baked into the game from day one and been unable to be removed. Huge parts of the universe are ignored (looking at you FW). New, big ideas are very hard to add in without ā€œbreakingā€ the existing game.

Would EVE 2 be just a better version of EVE? I don’t think so as clearly there is a ton of interesting in a more robust space experience a la SC or ED. My guess is EVE 2 would/will be in the middle of those two examples and EVE Original.

And god damn it I want Hello Kitty skins this time!

The closest we got to Eve 2 is Eve Echoes. And I never really liked it.

Watching Friday Night Tights, sorry missed it, but suppose Hello Kitty skins could be a thing. How bout Betty Boop ones as well? Always did like the flapper girls.

Wow. I was already debating on selling off all my stuff in game and quitting. This just makes it a lot easier to do just that. CCP will be the death of their own game.
