CSM does a good job in itself alienating a segment of the customer base.
You do not need “data”, just look at every other subscription based MMO on the market, it common ■■■■■■■ sense and basic mathematics.
FFXIV has a 10 sub, a free trial, and a 15 dollar sub, FFXI has a 12 dollar sub, WoW has a 15 dollar sub and if the Activision Blizzarad buy out is approved will most likely go to the Game Pass service, 10 dollar sub for access to several hundred game titles, Daybreak Games (formerly Sony Online Entertainment) Merged all of their first party developed games from individual subscriptions to a single 15 dollar sub. Guild Wars is a one time purchase and still going strong with out a sub, GW2 is the same just with an added cash shop, and instead of having to buy each individual expansion they switched to purchase most recent expansion and get all previous expansions for free, EQ, EQ2, and WoW also have adopted this.
How can you do basic mathematics without data? Those things called numbers.
Watch their prices go up too.
True but those big block CSM boys, for the most part what play style do they play. I would say PVP, and it just so happens thats all they really push for more and easier kills.
It does seem there are two kinds of Eve players–those that want lots of things new and ever changing and others who want game mechanics to be stable.
CCP Paragon has put a lot of pressure on Fanfest now with his AMA.
He basically says that he feels that once you have heard about the content and changes that they hope you will feel like they have justified the price hike.
It’s hard to directly compare eve with other MMO’s, the is nothing else like eve for good or bad.
Unless they can provide Massive multi account discounts or free MCT queues or the ability to play both Alpha and Omega account from the same systems I think it’s going to backfire massively on them, like all of the other U-turns they have made in the last few months.
Next couple of months are going to be interesting around here.
btw this post now has more new content than the game itself
I hope you got some convincing arguments for the price increase since its the by far the most expensive game out there.
For Omega 20/month is a ■■■■ load of money for nothing.
Lets Compare it with the Expension model that was spoken off in the try to explain it stream of ccp.
Lets take another old game which is not as old as eve but the one that does the expension. Guildwars 2
This got 3 expension each about 40€ + 40€ core game back in the days. Which sums up to 160€ total cost. And is out there for 8+ years. 160€/8 = 20€ per year while the develeopement team of GW2 lunches free content updates known as the living story (kinda like ccp does with events) and guess what they deliver bigger content that is sold as expension while in eve you pay to play. (since alpha cant do ■■■■ regarding pvp)
I have joined eve 2019 and since then the only thing that was added as “new content” were a trig ark and some edcom ships which sums for this “content” 3year (36*15= 540€ just to play).
And tbh that is not worth 540€ and i had a friend that asked about eve and i went honest with him that he should if he like to test it only stay as alpha the content thats deliverd compared to the price is not worth it.
Also one major differance.
If you do expansions the ppl see what you deliver for the price in eve with a increase of the price you have no idea why, is it worth it and also the option to not buy the expension you do not have in eve.
A roadmap like you will get:
Do we get full ship trees angel titans, SoE titens and stuff and triglavian titans, motherships, mining ships.
So it could in the end just be a flop as all ccp did since pearl took it over did, scarity that player hates, scam packs for new player (remember the mining ship pack), end of scarcity which is a hidden scarity, industry uptates to make stuff more simple but also more expensive, an price increase of subs without anykind of roadmap regarding releses.
If you dont want to create a record for how to piss off ppl and let ppl unsub then you do a bad job, if thats the goal keep going.
Wont pay a penny anymore to a company not understanding ppl like to pay for content and if you dont deliver a increase in the cost is…
The player had named a ton of solutions for more income for ccp:
-Skin color change via an editor while every color change requires some plex
-Alliance Skins (2€ ea and they would sell like hot cakes) that replace the logo of the group (eg. amarr icon) with the alliance icon you are part of.
the problem with the fanfest carrot is that no one believes in it. the past few years have been one disastrous patch after another. CCP has no credibility at this point. so promising cool stuff just ahead of the increase gains no traction.
despite a 20 year ‘evolution’, they do not even have an adequate multiple account management interface as other developers do - having to either log in/out X times, or have X browser profiles (for every account), EVE is stuck in the 90’s for multi-boxers in this regard
If eve moved to a paid expansion model (around every two years) it would force them to actually provide new content, hence all the free (non)expansions that we get.
That’s probably why it’s not a paywalled expansion. You can only do so much with a grid game and one at two decades old at that.
You can only do that really with separation of spaces.
It is also worth noting that guildwars 1 is still running without a sub. Guild wars 2, WoW, and EQ 1 and EQ 2 all did expansions and went a step further allowing new players to buy the newest expansion and get all the preceding expansions for free. Eq1, Eq2 DCUO and Planetside 2 all are under one sub now too and entirely free to play with less restrictions than EvE has too. DCUO does free expansions as part of that sub or if you remain free to play you can buy them at a decent price point.
thanks to the adoption of ‘live cycle development’, very few developers have anything resembling a solid release foundation, which has led to many players adopting a ‘wait and see’ practice - something that the developers in general seem to have a hard time comprehending or presenting to the decision makers in a manner that will yield acceptable changes.
I’m not paying 60 pound a month for 3 accounts I was happy paying 45 but now it’s getting abit mad, I will be unsubscribing
I guess you can play with ONE account like a normal player.
At least we get to see the level of multi-accounting with this
I’m all for more unique players in space…
The problem with that is they dont know how to make it so one side does’nt get ■■■■ kicked when the changes come out.
yeah ofc,
its one thing i hate with subscription systems.
expension systems got a realese date and content named thats available then.
So i expect from ccp a roadmap for the content that would satisfy the increase of cost and it needs fixed dates when this content will be added on top a option for stay with the old price and dont have access to the content for the increased price.
That way you can decide if its worth it or not.
And maybe add besides alpha and omega a version in between for these that decides to not use the new stuff and want to stay with the old price. Alpha,Gamma,Omega maybe
If they had expansions, what would the non-expanders do? Would there be inaccessible places/items/skills/techs/etc? Would it still be one shared “universe?”
CCP has spent the last few years seriously working against the player population, making it harder to do almost everything to the point of collapse IMO. This new price change with absolutely no content and promise for possible stuff at the next fanfest just smacks of well… I’ll leave that bit out. CCP is not going to be able to walk this one back, the writing is on the wall.
