the hard (and relevant) statistics CCP will never reveal:
how many bought into the +/- 30% ‘special’ before the new prices go into effect (and the follow up that shows how many of those do not renew when those ‘specials’ are expired).
The problem is not just the ones already here and cancelling or leaving, but also how it is going to impact new player ingress and retention, which given this games PVP centric basis is slightly important.
“Cutting off ones nose to spite the face” comes to mind
Well to me most of the changes they did in the last 18 months or so to save the economy have killed the game… killed pve killed mining and indy can’t afford to build caps(cost more to build than u can sell for) just really screwed the game up… And now want to ask for more money to fix the screw ups
the issue with that is wages have not increased in time with inflation for most people and the rest of the industry are trending towards lowering prices while providing more of what the consumer want and at a higher quality than ccp have been doing.
no. the base MMO sub fee has been a fixture for many years. the masters of the genre manage without price flux just fine. any MMO that can not maintain with base subscription alone is incompetent at one or more levels and needs their priorities examined at higher levels.
EVE is not the only MMO in the last decade to suffer bone headed decisions like this, and each one has very predictable path if left un-adjusted. Few make those adjustments, some make even more draconian changes in response, which just tightens the downward spiral.
The original Archeage, I was in Beta on that game and lovered the hell out of it. Then they ran it into the crapper with their Pay To Win garbage, and their destruction of the industrial side and look at it now.
Other titles have actually been doing the opposite. They realize its better to make more money by volume of players at $15 or even $10 price points then to increase prices and thereby decrease players. If EVE only had 1000 paying subs at $15 USD and no other source of income from players, they would need 750 players to keep that same amount of income at $20 usd. If however they were to lose just one more player and only have 749 it would now be a loss of profit. They need to maintain 3/4th of their current subscribers to maintain the same level of subscriber profit, i do not see that happening.
The day CCP was purchased by Perl Abyss is the day the game started going downhill. The latest announcement is another indication of a completely detached company from reality.
I don’t know why but for some reason Space Games are either a complete scam (i.e Star Citizen and Star Atlas) or a complete failure (Elite Dangerous and now Eve Online). Space games seemed cursed for some reason.
And really let’s name and shame the source of the “fat” and “largess” at CCP… the existence of a “self justificatory game balancing staff” not only has screwed up the game time and again, but also perpetuated its own existence through unnecessary game balancing that catered to whiners in Eve that have a voice because of the CSM.
so true. They keep calling it “Eve Forever” but we all know that the majority of Eve Online players are WWII and Vietnam veterans so what will happen to the game when those heroes go to heaven.
Wow has a better balance between PVP and PVE, and its not as centered on a realistic economy. But they still dont hammer one side of their paying player base like Eve has done over the last 4-5 years and yes I mean Industry.
