Honestly what kind of illegal boosters did you consume that it seems to have had permanent negative side effects on your creativity?
You could do SO many thing with your own IP, you got pirate factions, you got Drifters, you got 4.5 Empires (there must be remaining jovians), you got Rogue AIs, you got N amount of corps that could be doing shady stuff (Quafe zombies anyone?), plus so much more!
But seriously, a long time ago you had us scavenge for Jovian body parts for an event, then at times your team would take the reins and bring out some lore character and stage an attack in a previously unseen ship and have LASTING universe implicationsā¦ and nowā¦ you go with the Tardis? A doctor that has bees dead for 1000ās of years and fought daleks is gonna somehow come to New Eden?
I mean I was always hoping for some event related to the Eve Gate, but I was expecting some hostile human faction or ACTUAL aliens to come inā¦ but the doctor? Thatās really cringe

Looked at it again, Jan 4thā¦ what is wrong with CCP. Jesus christ in heaven, what is wrong with the people in charge these days. This is legitimately the most cringe worthy thing I have ever seen happen in this game.
I would LOVE another T20 scandal (dev giving an alliance TII BPOās for any newer players, happened decades ago) over this.

I wonder what the rewards will be for this event; probably something like:
-Tardis capsule Skin
-Cyberman head apparel
-Dalek mutated scout drones
-Master boosters
-Timelord cargo hold expanders
Maybe itās just a clone of the old doc. Too bad we wonāt be able to shoot the phone booth and blow it up.
Actually the Tardis would make a good T3 Hauler as its bigger on the inside than on the outside and it can cloak too =P

As far as Dr Who lore is concerned, he has been way before and way after Eve dates at some points. In theory, ANY Dr Who could have been current with ANY time and place in Eve.

Let me start by saying that I have mixed feelings about this event and I mean that literally.
A crossover event can be amazing and very fun (meaning its potential as we donāt know how good it would be gameplay-wise), opening the door to many positive things in many aspects of this game.
On the other handā¦ Dr. Who? Seriously? Daleks? Those motor-assisted props-on-wheels? Oh wellā¦ I guess this is one of the things CCP London was occupying itself withā¦ and had the budget for itā¦
I think that the reception of this event would be a lot different if this was a Star Trek or Star Wars crossover. Imagine having Imperial Star Destroyers as battleship event rats, launching TIE fighters same way we launch drones and shooting at us with their characteristic green lazers. People would be LIVID. Especially if, after the event, we would be allowed to build spaceships based on those new foreign ones. Yes, Iām aware that to get the rights to something like that CCP would probably have to pay a gorillion dollars and maybe their sell their soul to boot, so that aināt happening any time soon. Those big franchises donāt need any more advertisement so what so we get? Dr. Who.
I canāt hide my disappointment but I guess this is the best we can get at the moment. But there can be positives about it.
It could lead the way to better, more well known universes to make their crossover in New Eden. Dr. Who is well known but I donāt think itās very popular, especially outside the UK. It could lead to new content in the form of new ships, space, modules and even races.
A big negative thing that I saw on the forum that was mentioned a lot was real world advertising. Thereās already in-game advertising about lore-friendly AND unfriendly stuff and it doesnāt affect my gameplay at all. Iāve never looked at a space billboard more than twice in my eve life and the big station screens are cool and all but after watching the same ads a thousand times over I just donāt even notice them anymore.
Real life ads in a game can be an added cool factor. For example I remember playing a shooter game in some war-torn part of a city and there was this huge billboard that advertised the company that made the game. It made the game feel alive and connected to the real world. Now obviously Eve Online takes place thousands of years in the future in a concretely different galaxy so connecting it to 2022 earth would be ludicrousā¦ If done badly.
Twitch is already semi-canon from the skins and all.
To bring back a previous point, letās say that CCP buys the rights to WH40k for a couple of weeks and in that time frame the billboards would advertise GWās Warhammer+ (yes Iām aware WH+ is bad, itās just an example, people) and maybe a one-time pop-up on login. Itās not bad at all. Eve is a completely fictional universe with already its fair share of silly antics, breaking the otherwise grimdark feel it has. Eve needs help to revitalize itself so concessions must be made. It becomes bad if the ads become aggressive, interrupting your gameplay and/or forcing you to click on things you donāt want to in order to access content. This is something I would be strongly opposed to.
Post is getting long so to reiterate:
Crossover events are amazing if done smartly.
Dr. Who is a disappointment but I have hopes that it could lead to other amazing things.
Gameplay-disrupting add-ons are bad and shouldnāt exist or should be limited and temporary.
Non-gameplay-disrupting add-ons are w/e as long as theyāre inconsequential to my way of playing.
Stay positive. Remove any potential sticks from behinds. Itās a new year.
PS: I tried to be as impartial as possible when thinking about this topic. My current attitude, mostly because Dr. Who kinda sucks, is āmehā with the potential to drastically swing in either direction.
A Harry Potter x EVE online crossover would be nice.
