Dynamic PvP/PvE Mode - A Player-Driven Solution!

Thats not a discussion, just a reminder. A discussion means debating opposing views by exchanging arguments, backed up by provable facts.

It will create a two tier player base.

That’s the main problem.

The second problem is dev time - large parts of the game will have to be changed to accommodate this ā€œfeatureā€ and it could take a year. Some parts will have to be completely rewritten. Almost every system in the game would need to change.

I don’t think this is very well thought through.

There’s already a two tier player base, Alpha and Omega.

Doesn’t seem to be a problem when they work on expansions.

This is much bigger job than an expansion.

With Alpha and Omega, it’s still possible for Alphas to best Omegas in combat, that’s not the same as what you’re proposing.

Maybe. How do you know, are you a game developer? How do you know what it would take to implement my idea?

You are correct, sir, it is not the same but it is still a two tier system among the player base.

@Mike_Azariah You have been in the CSM and a respected member of the EVE community so I would very much like to know what you think of this idea.
Thank you in advance.

I’m all for more PvP in high-sec - just not a fan of the idea of PvE/PvP modes.

That’s a matter of personal preference, I understand, but it doesn’t say why it can’t or shouldn’t be adopted by CCP.

Fair enough. Since you inquired, here are some points to consider:

• This would basically ensure that all miners, industrialists, traders and suppliers would set ā€œPvE Modeā€ and never look back (since ganking will either be less effective or rendered moot entirely).
• It would be heavily abused (even more so than currently) by bot fleets.

You’ve hinted at ā€œsafe zonesā€ in high-security space, mining belts and some regions, so with the additional advantages bestowed (and no downside that I can see) - who would even opt for ā€œPvP Modeā€?
. . . . .

Addendum: There’s more than a bit of subtle irony that anti-PvP ideas receive a ton of response but pro-PvP suggestions are overlooked entirely.

As with every single time this comes up. No, without the penalties of no in game income to affect the markets.

Pretty much. As I said, there’s basically zero downside to this proposal - so other than making it safer for bots, it really accomplishes very little.

No interaction is prevented by the difference between Alpha and Omega, you are comparing apples with oranges. Identifying a point of difference does not somehow automatically equate that difference to that in your proposal.

Yes.

No. I disagree with this as it changes the core of what Eve is. Perhaps another game might use pvp,pve flags but I do not think that it is suitable for what Eve is.

  • What are your concerns about this proposed system?

Eve players being ever players it would be abused. ie scouts that could not be shot inhabiting every system, watching every gate

  • How can we mitigate potential abuse and maintain gameplay balance?

By not implementing it in the first place.

  • Would you be more likely to engage in PvE activities if a system like this were implemented?

No, I would not. I play Eve with all its gankers and miners and huge alliances and wee solo players it is the game I play.

So the difference between EVE and other MMOs is how its presented. Other games have their own servers that split PVE and PVP. EVE is one continuous server. So there is effectively no room for pvp and pve to be done differently or split apart.

And there isn’t even a problem this suggestion would solve.

You can right now do PvE aaaaaaalllll daaaay longggg without ever being attacked, harassed, or even killed. Just not everywhere and any time.

Go for a godforsaken HighSec system at the end of the world and you can run Missions, mine Ore, do Abyssals for months without ever even seeing a ganker. Do your Missions/Anos/Sites in a bricktanked buffer Commandship that always moves with running propmod instead of a blingbling Marauder that stands still and no Ganker would even bother trying to gank you. You can basically do whatever you like without running into PvP if you just learn how and accept that there are PvP areas in this game where people will hunt you if they see you - so just avoid them.

It isn’t witchcraft not to get killed during PvE, such an ā€œOpt Outā€ mode simply isn’t needed because every player can just take precautions not to be a juicy target. And then he is simply left alone, for ages, even right now, without any changes.

Thank you for replying and thank you for your opinion, Mike, and thank you for answering the questions at the end of OP which I noticed no one who replied did.

@ISD_Drew Could you please close this thread? I have received enough feedback with Mike’s being the cherry on the cake. He’s so cool.

Most of us did answer the questions - you just didn’t acknowledge the replies.

These questions?

When did you, or anyone besides Mike, answer those questions? Humm?

Eve is a PvP game. There is no opt-out option, and that’s a good thing.

If you don’t like PvP - just play something else …

The irony of this ā€œPvE modeā€ as proposed by OP is that it would be heavily abused in PvP scenarios.

Just imagine an anchor in a fleet being unkillable due to sitting in a Monitor with ā€œPvE modeā€ turned on.
And that’s just one of many ways people would find to abuse this.
