Encounter Surveillance System Update

Sure it is, at least the real life humiliation part. Getting hit is battery, which is usually a misdemeanor.

Nope. It really isn’t. Justification is also an affirmative defense, which means if the prosecutor decides to push the case, you’ve got to prove that you were justified. That means getting a lawyer, dealing with the headaches and the waiting of the judicial system, and it’s going to take time and cost you a lot of money.

This is a great way to end up in prison. The whole “fighting words” thing is largely a myth.

If they hit you, they’ve broken the law, and it’s up to the law to deal with them, not you. That’s the point of living in a world with laws.

The types of people who think it’s okay to punch somebody for saying mean things to you generally do not have enough money to pay for lawyers.

mom says dont complain unless you offer solutions.

  1. stop the main bank altogether
  2. take a lower percentage to start with
  3. make the main bank theft by contributors have less of a penalty
  4. reduce the pay cycle to more normal time for players (90 mins) instead of bots. 3 hours
  5. use a mining ledger type function to identify contributors and thieves with easy export
  6. remove the easy mode to find the ESS rich systems
any or all of these suggestions would show that CCP really is interested in responding to player input

I never said this.

Noizy here. I haven’t really followed the ESS because I don’t hang out in null sec due to my allergy to bubbles. While you’re giving me credit for being data driven, you might want to throw Rhivre onto the list. She probably knows more about the data in the MER than CCP does.

BTW, I hope it is okay with @Arrendis if I don’t link the post the one time Rhivre caught the mistake after I published.

it does not change anything.
you can allready display systems by npc kill count.

so why did they need a set destination function to “help” if it was already easy? why should they know how much and when, instead of “hunting”. pvp should require some effort beyond just the fight itself. especially if you expect the defenders to commit resources just to “guard” unless the defenders get a notification that someone used the “set destination” function. seems fair to me

Totally fine, yeah.

I have tested this new ESS system a bit.
The core mechanics of new feature felt not much bad, one point I didn’t like is that whole ESS ongrid is visible to D-scan. Since it’s visible, habitants are too much superior to intruders by pushing counter ships for them.
It would be more attractive for intruders if ESS ongrids are immune to D-scan ( the outside of the ESS should be invisible from the ESS too ).

ok, great “exciting gameplay” addition…

But it goes a bit against the sandbox and makes sov owners less of an owner since sov holder has no influence over it.

My proposal:

  • make it a anchorable structure
  • lower anom npc bounty everywhere
  • the ESS (once anchored and online) will bring bounty payouts back to normal and all it’s “exciting gameplay” with it.

I’m loving this new thrilling gameplay. Looking at how much isk is in the ESS around us… Nobody is ratting, this was as intended, right?

To be honest… im not ratting for someones wallet… im ratting for my own. CCP forgot something… There are non pvp experienced people or with other intentions. I dont like PVP. Burning ISK for what? There is nothing to achieve there. But here comes CCP… lets introduce more forced PVP. You know that ESS thingy? Yeah that thingy that steals your money for 3hours. Oh you cant defend 1v9? Well… uuupsiii,

lucky for you, ccp has already fixed that issue with filaments!

Then rat somewhere other than nullsec.

Or rat on the Singularity server.

I see it. 2 days isn’t much of a history though.

cough

ESI endpoint access? Mail with the details of who did the stealing?

Hrm so how are you supposed to defend the ESS when you have to log off for work or Log off to go to sleep? just chalk it up as a loss when you leave for the day? or just plan your play time and ratting down to when you are actually around to defend this thing. I dont mind having to fight for my ■■■■ but I do work and I think 3 hours is too long of a time to try and force someone to protect something…

This is a really bad update, honestly thinking of canceling my accounts, bad form CCP

People usually rat when they can’t participate in pvp activity so they can fund their pvp later on when they have the time. This is basically a nullsec tax collecting simulator for small gangs during those hours and ab kitey meta/ blasters pre-sitting at 0/ who-enter-first advantage inside the ESS bubble; not even probing works to catch those who already outside of the ESS bubble. This is not at all a well thought-out change in my opinion.

Exactly what will happen, thanks to confirm my point on other threads.

To be honest, I’m enjoying the salt from folks who get caught / driven off from the ESS even more than I am the substantial number of kills from would-be thieves.

They are STILL moaning about not getting a fair fight, boohoohoo why isn’t it easier for me to steal from you, etc etc etc.

Glorious.

Well, now that I actually have tested the ESS on Sisi, I can give some proper feedback on it.

In short, it’s an undercooked feature.

  1. Ease of access

There’s 0(ZERO) requirements for accessing the ESS, other than being able to fly a ship that’s able to get past the acceleration gate.

Then, when inside, you just need to stick around for 5 minutes, and you have successfuly stolen the bank!

CONCORD sure is incompetent in protecting isk.

Seriously, it’s such a wasted opportunity for some new and difficult hacker content.

Here’s my suggestion on fixing this.

  • Step 1

Accessing the ESS requires a Data Analyzer, which already would make life a tad more difficult for any possible thief, having to give up on a mid slot module.

The player then gets a high difficulty hacking window to try and bypass.

A failed attempt gives out the warning popup that the ESS is under attack, while a successful attempt allows the player to sneakily link to the ESS bank and attempt to steal the bonds, with the 5 min timer.

  • Step 2

Just like a cryptocurrency network, lorewise, every ESS should be linked to each other, and if there’s a data breach in one, it should be possible for the system to recover from attacks.

As for gameplay, this would make the SSC Bounties temporary items, maybe lasting 15 mins, requiring the thief to HTFU and find a place to exchange them before they expire, as the ESS they hacked comes back online and exchanges data with backup servers, thus invalidading any stolen bounds.

  1. Readily Available Intel

The information of EVERY single ESS in existence is available in the Agency window, which I believe it’s the cause of the lag when reopening that specific page, as the system struggles to fetch all the data neatly for the player.

Now, compare that ease of access to combat anomaly ratting…

The DBS stimulates players to move around between systems to keep high payouts, but that’s easier said than done, as there’s 0 intel readily available for the player on where they are supposed to go for that.

If you had to move to one of those three systems for some ratting, which one would you choose?

Probably the one with 7 anomalies, as there’s more chances of at least a single one being the type your are aiming for, right?

I’m not really sure where the balance should be for this one, but at the very least, knowing which ESS to aim for should be harder than it currently is.

Here’s my suggestion for this:

  • ESS Data Centers

The encrypted ESS network makes use of hidden data center relay towers, which directly communicate data with neighboring systems housing other ESS complexes.

If a system has 3 null sec neighbors with an ESS available for exemple, that would lead to 3 relay towers, which can be combat scanned and warped to once successfully found.

In order to be as hidden as possible, unlike the ESS complex, the towers don’t have any gates or warp disruption zones protecting them.

There, the player can use their Data Analyzer to hack the system and gain information on the ESS network according to their hacking skills.

Hacking Skill Level
lvl 1 - current system only
lvl 2 - up to 2 jumps away
lvl 3 - up to 5 jumps away
lvl 4 - up to 10 jumps away
lvl 5 - region wide

As a proper secure system, when detecting a data breach, the system shuts down and gives the data relay task to another tower in the system, just giving a proper reason for these centers to be respawning combat anomalies, instead a static complexes like the ESS.

  1. End Notes

These changes do mean there is a requirement of entry for this content, but at the same time, it creates a proper gameplay chain instead of just warp, link, spin, steal, repeat.

Also, please fix this stuff:

I’m not sure to which extent these notifications go, but it can clearly be spammed to no end in order to annoy other players.

Thanks for reading!
