EVE Online subscription pricing opportunity

Hello,

TL: DR Mid-tier Omega payment option for more revenue

I’m an extremely new player here on EVE online, there have been similar topics to mine, mine is not necessarily a complaint, but rather an opportunity.

I’m enjoying this game, this game has so much to offer, and this game apparently keeps bringing more content. That makes sense for a game on a subscription model. Also, to upkeep the insane cost of server. However, I am personally quite turned off to the minimum price of $20/month for 1 month or around $15-$11 at higher time periods of Omega.

My suggestion, and what I believe is a good opportunity for the game, could be a cheaper, starting at $5 or 10/month, that lacks the same benefits of omega, but still open up the game much more broadly and affordably. This could branch out players to eventually go full omega, or simply just provide more revenue to keep the game going. I at least, know I would likely purchase a cheaper alternative to Omega, which is better than $0 I’m planning to spend on the current subscription pricing.

my Idea to what could be IN the lower quality package would be:

  • More ships (I think I’m mainly referring to the “ORE” brand of mining ships which is severely limited compared to other brands) But maybe still limiting the largest/best ships.
  • More skills. naturally, more ships means more skills available.

BUT

  • NO half time training, in order to make it worth being a cheaper alternative.

Ultimately, this could be a cheaper version of omega which still opens the game to nearly its full potential with similar unlocks to Full omega while still limiting players with no Double skill speed unlocks. This can provide revenue from a wider quantity of players while still not draining any pockets.

I once again, am extremely new, so I could be completely overlooking something which just makes this illogical but, more players spending money = happy devs.

So, basically someone trains an army of alts into Exhumers, then he has everything he needs and don’t really need the training speed, so he “downgrades” the sub to “half-omega” and just mass-mine with his own alt-army for half the price?

No.

well, there it is, the thing I easily overlooked lol. this was a pretty barebones post, and my answer to solve issues like this would be to make it only able to be upgraded UP. basically a “new players pass”. if you ever upgrade to full omega, it would remove downgrading.

To counter anymore arguments like this one, if this idea was to ever be realized by the devs, they would have a much better idea of how to integrate it than ME, the dude who doesn’t even want to buy anything from their game yet and is still yapping on the forums.

Poster: I gonna post on general, because I’m so smart more ppl will read it.

Start using the right section, general is for exchange of general ideas, everybody will take a hit at your post.

The devs not only do not care, in case they do, they not gonna search the general section for ideas.

And I gotta say, EVE is perfect for Deepmind, the amount of human frustration this game can generate is something to be studied. Forums won’t help, they only going to make it worse. Be advised.

Maybe FC Hellmar is waiting for your call to teach him how to run the company, in case you don’t have it, just ping him on X. Why waste time on the forums?

You could cut down the cost of an Omega subscription severely by sacrificing some of the skill points you earn every month.

You could for example extract all or half the SP you earn, sell the injectors and cover a considerable portion of your Omega that month, potentially buying another month of Omega for free once every two or three months depending on how much SP you sell.

As any other Omega strategy this gets better if you buy larger Omega packs and larger extractor packs during sales, but it is a way for an ‘intermediary Omega cost’ while still having access to many Omega benefits.

I don’t think we need a gradated subscription plan. The moment you introduce a limited sub for cheap pricing that’s all most people are gonna be getting. ‘‘Oh, I don’t need to fly my Marauder this month, I’ll just grab the 50% sub this time’’.

Sub fee should not be dependent on ‘how much’ of the game you’ll be using. Don’t plan on going into wormholes for a month? Expect to get 30% off! That’s not how this game should work. You’re not paying piecemeal for selective content. Either you are just starting out and getting to know the game, in which case Alpha is perfectly fine and dandy for you. Or if you’ve moved past that you should pay the full sub with full access to everything in the game.

Once upon a time I suggested a lower-priced “Delta” subscription that would be capped at sub-capitals. You’d have to also nerf or otherwise restrict Alphas to maybe cruisers (max).

Having two paid subscriptions is problematic in of itself, though…

$5/month. No multi-month discounts and no f2p. Goal: fund dev & ensure minimal commitment from each player.

But that would still let you punch above your weight limit. You would have to restrict it to only being able to fire on sub caps. Fine by me but I’m not sure if it would be worth CCP’s time?

How would CCPFC ‘fund dev’ when your suggestion is that they reduce a large portion of their income from subscriptions?

Your idea doesn’t sound realistic to me, to be honest.

Most of the money CCP makes from EVE Online goes toward vanity projects and maintaining offices worldwide atm.

The trick is save you money and buy Plex when on special then when Omega is on sale in NES buy omega. Like right now you can do this.

Downside is I find it hard to quite as my sub is paid up months ahead but I never pay 20USD which is daylight robbery if your not paid in USD!!!

Better ask would be to have more Country Specific pricing how about I only pay $20NZD for our Bad currency

Then everyone and their dog would use a VPN to make it look like they are playing from that country to get the lower price…

2:1 skill extractors is always the best deal.

So? is 2K only publishing one video game? Did Insomniac only create one video game? Blizzard?

Don’t the skill packs already do this? Buy the exhumer skill pack for less than omega and you can fly it? Or do you still need omega? I’ve never bought one.

Also I’m at like 6$ a month.

Buy plex during plex sale, buy sub with plex during sub sale. Profit.

Anyone seriously into EVE isn’t paying month-to-month. As was pointed out, you can get PLEX (extractors, etc.) on sale and then take advantage of any NES Omega for PLEX sales.

The best deal is to work a few hours at a side hustle in RL and pay for your account that way so you don’t have to mindlessly grind away in-game.

It is a bad look when they charge $20 just to see if they can away with it, and then for veterans they create loopholes so they can pay less than $20 per month.

Loopholes exist for everybody.

Meet Billy. Billy is 20 years old. He works in California, US, for 18 dollars an hour in a warehouse.

Billy budgets. After taxes and healthcare his account gets hit with $2,263.44 a month. Sometimes more but overtime isn’t reliable so he budgets without it.

Billy rents an apartment with his highschool buddy. Rent and utilities is 1500 a month. Billy pays half. He has a $200 car payment for a cheap Honda Civic that uses zero gasoline. He’s young so its a massive $180 insurance payment for it. He gives himself $300 a month for food, a TP fund of $150, thats things like toilet paper and tooth paste. He pays 6% into retirement of &135.80 And he budgets himself 50 a month for subscriptions.

that leaves him with 497.64 left a month.

Hes been saving that extra money for a $10,000 emergency fund. Thats about 6 months of his expenses. Hopefully one day he can buy a house. He’s been saving for 6 months but he only has 1,791.5 in his savings account. He’s been over budget. Girlfriends are expensive.

He made an Eve alpha account and absolutely loves it. He can spend time playing internet spaceships instead of spending money on the town.

he cancels all his subscriptions and decides to save his 50 dollar subscription budget for 6 months. He plays every as an alpha for 6 months and learns the power of the gila. He highsec rats mostly. He now has 300 dollars saved.

He waits until a plex sale is announced and one comes up. 23% off! Thats $500.50 for 20,000 plex.

he applies for the chase freedom unlimited credit card which gives him a $200 welcome bonus as long as he spends 500 dollars in 6 months. Ggez.

He gets the card. Buys the plex. Gets the bonus. Pays the 300.50 immediately with his bank account to avoid any interest. 50 cents over budget.

Now. Billy waits for an omega sale in the new eden store. Two years is normally 6600 plex but the sale comes up and its 20% off!

He buys a total of 6 years omega for 15,840 plex. Only paying an absolutely mythical $3.30 a month for the account.

he also has about 30 billion isk in plex left over. Which is going to go to blown up spaceships.

Billy makes no money. Billy did it. Be like Billy.

Billy then spends all his time playing EVE. Billy’s girlfriend leaves him, saving Billy $500 a month. Billy doesn’t notice. Billy is winning.
