So will there be a replacement app in the future?
Not with the same features as they are not all available via official api and someone would have to support it
While I understand it can be hard to keep multiple development tracks, in todayās world a mobile platform is a necessity, rather than a nice-to-have (just look at percentages around Black Friday sales completed on mobile devices).
As a new player, you want to be logging into the game every 5 minutes, even if there is nothing to do but to look at the progress of a skill which wonāt complete for another 9 days. Most people canāt be at their gaming machine throughout the day, and Eve Portal offered another peak into New Eden to keep players engaged. The application didnāt need to be complex, what it did was perfectly fine.
As I sit here contemplating an Omega subscription, this doesnāt give me much confidence in CPP. Development of an FPS component (in a saturated market) taking precedence over what I would consider the core of the platform, is an odd business decision.
Just my 2c.
No FPS is linked the Monopoly of an MMO that is EVE Online tho. Itās what makes Vanguard something that has hype to me.
Plus I am young and I missed what happened in DUST
Can you make the app background music available for download please? I used to use it for relaxing or falling asleep.
Yeah, you should definitely discontinue Support for an application that complements your 25 year old game. That way you can use those resources to build another crap tastic first person shooter.
Just came back to eve after a few years break. Used to use the app all the time. Kept checking it, not even able to loginā¦ gave up. Now I know why I wasnāt getting anything. Itās unfortunate I actually really appreciated the app for when I couldnāt get to my computer.
Typical CCP bad communications. Will where be a new replacement app in the future???
Would you like them to lie to you and say they are attempting to improve the failing app?
no, but fixing something for a change would be niceā¦
It would be yah!
Sometimes gotta start from the ground up with a game this oldā¦
I wish my eyesight was better and didnāt like to put on reading glasses to read the mobile app.
The reason I had trouble using the mobile app was only that.
Though since I am now on a iPhone 14 pro max the screen is a lot bigger and though had arrived to late to redownload the mobile app again.
I am sure others got more out of it than I had.
Iām much happier that they said, ālook, it donāt work and we arenāt fixing it.ā
Sorry to hear. Enjoyed using the app when it was working.
A great shame
EVE Portal app does not have a robust enough foundation for its ongoing maintenance or further development.
Kinda what you get when you get a games company to build an app imo (this comes from someone with many many years of app development). The whole thing felt like an afterthought with limited features which is surprising considering you have actual access to the ESI.
Itās a shame, but 100% CCP tbh.
Iām fine with this. I would rather CCPās development time focus on the maintaining the ESI. Most of the useful functionality, such as checking character wallet balances, can be replicated in third party tools so long as the ESI is working properly.
Iāll add that the Eve Excel plug-in has been far more valuable than the Eve Portal ever was. The steady improvements to itās performance and features have not been lost on me (MARKET HISTORY!) The dev team deserves credit for the work it has put into launching and support of Eve Excel, If it comes at the expense of my ability to fiddle with my skill cue on my phone, itās a trade I am happy to make.
Since I started playing Eve I have not really had cause to be disappointed, rather the opposite. However, the loss of assets at an abandoned structure in high-sec was avoidable if I read the Eve warning mail. Eve Support response was explanatory but helpful for the lost assets. Normally when I travel for work I rely on this app to assist with staying in touch (mail+training queues). The combination of losing assets and loss of Eve Portal for comms. helps me with the decision whether this game is the right one for me.
Use discord
Itās sad to see it go, but it only half worked, so it didnāt leave a good impression of CCP in the app-storeā¦ Iād rather see them hammer out Vanguard, then sit down and work out a new EVE Portal that incorporates all the lessons learned so far to make a great phone-app.
