※There’s a bug in EVE where portraits revert to old images.
Unless I save them, no one will ever see them…
Oh, is that bug back again?
It’s a recurring bug that I’ve seen a couple more times in the past. I assume it has to do with the process of saving the final portrait that may be offline or broken.
I suggest you make a bug report, open a thread and wait some weeks until CCP fixes it. ![]()
Just so you know, you can get a better quality portrait of your character via a website like https://evewho.com/character/2124169736, which links to a full resolution of your portrait:
It’s already an improvement of the picture above, you could also just as well keep it. ![]()
It’s not really a “bug” per se, but a backend service outage. It will eventually resolve and then process the queue and update your avatar. You can submit a ticket and sometimes it will get CCP to kick the right hamster. Or just wait until someone figures out that the hamster is sleeping on the job and kicks it themselves.
Just keep in mind that any changes you continue to make are getting added to the queue. Eventually, the last one you submitted will go into effect. If in a day, week, or month, you see your profile image change, that’s why.
Oh that’s good to know!
I wasn’t aware of an existing queue, just that the backend service that saves the temporary image for long term storage and usage was sometimes out for weeks.
Caveat: I don’t have any first hand knowledge of the backend infrastructure. My description is based only on observed behavior with delayed changes to avatars and corp logos (I’ve seen it apply multiple changes in order after a long outage). So it definitely seems to be a message queue and worker service configuration, but who knows? ![]()
The most I’ve had my portrait ‘‘wait in queue’’ has been a day or so. Usually it takes anywhere between 5min to 3 hrs to update when you change it.
You guys probably know this, but CCP has upgraded character portrait resolutions over the years and this is also one of the reasons some portraits come up low quality. I have also noticed that the free apparel items in the character creator have a lower texture quality than the ones you buy off NES, or anything that has been released within the last 2-3 years. That’s another thing causing pixels in the images.
I’m glad to hear this thread had that effect!
Nice portrait, I like the replacement eye and scar that caused it.
My expression could mean many things.
Perhaps you said something humorous, and im laughing inside. ![]()
Maybe you said something weird or even silly…and im trying to decipher it in my own comical way. ![]()
Or maybe, im watching as you walk by to make sure you act accordingly. ![]()
Its your choice. ![]()
Ive never changed her since making her when the avatar upgrade happened many years back. I still have her original avatar when we had the old ones. ![]()
Here she was back in 2010. I miss that look. ![]()
Has anyone seen the three new portrait backgrounds yet that we supposedly can obtain during the Gallente Election event?
Edit, found one:
Moreau’s Gallente Background
I guess I’m the only one enjoying the election event to the full:
I’ll keep it up for the duration of the election to show support for my candidate.
You’re not the only one… I’m also enjoying the event… I even acquired the Select Freedom Combat Suits for my Gallente characters…
Nice match of the suits with the backgrounds.
Something new I noticed about EVE portraits:
CCP recently made a change so it always cuts off a part of the portrait on both sides, no matter how wide you make the window to accommodate the full picture.
I don’t like it.
I made my portraits using the full space, not just the part in the middle. ![]()
It’s because you have a title and are in an alliance. The more text to the right of your portrait, the more it gets cut off.
They called this an ”improvement” in the patch notes. @Aiko_Danuja
It’s bad design.
I would suggest posting in the feedback thread, and also writing to the CSM. Unfortunately, CCP doesn’t read the forums, but I certainly agree.
Combining that face augmentation with the bodysuit is a great idea. ![]()
