EVE Serenity needs CCP's attention

https://eve.tiancity.com/homepage/article/2018/06/14/55234.html
Another Serenity server down on 22:00(6:00 Chinese time) under the reason"登陆困难情况进行排查与修复"(almost same as the last one but slightly less harsh). Not sure what is happening. Perhaps they are busy setting up the new server infrastructure?

Meanwhile, there had been a mix of posts on tieba and then reddit about some “massive bans” among the Chinese community on Tranquility. So far most people believed that most bans are issued because of botting/illegal macro use. A screenshot shows that 200b ISK is removed from “a Chinese corp of goons”, don’t know where this screenshot comes from though. There are also reports that bots in other factions are banned too.

The Serenity online graph since the first unscheduled DT had a few unusual dips over the usual smooth curve. Looks like they are still having spike disconnect issues.
June 13
a dip of around 1300 at 12:55 UTC
a dip of around 1300 at 14:30 UTC
a dip of around 700 at 18:15 UTC

After the second unscheduled DT, there are still dips in the graph.

I actually really like the redesigned blood raider logo myself, i have mixed feelings about the guristas ones though, i would be fine with CCP adopting the blood raider logo though

Just a little update:

There are still visible dips on serenity online graph on eve-offline, almost everyday.

But last day there was a dip of 1600 players, about 40% of online players at that time.
[‘2018-06-25 17:25’,4005,3979],[‘2018-06-25 17:30’,2380,3979],[‘2018-06-25 17:35’,3897,3979]

Still, the graph on https://images.ceve-market.org/status/status.png had no dips. I am not sure if it’s ceve-market.org not taking enough samples or eve-offline having some problems.

Meanwhile, http://service.tiancity.com/GB/Block/EVE shows that Tiancity bans fewer accounts than they did in May. In fact only 23 accounts were banned since June 12th.

I just want their ship skins - https://www.reddit.com/r/Eve/comments/2tg8r1/all_the_chinese_server_skins/

So, after today’s downtime TianCity “temporarily suspended” the purchasing PLEX service. They did not mention whether there will be any alternative service, or what they will do with their license.
https://eve.tiancity.com/homepage/article/2018/06/28/55297.html

Their text formatting is also kinda weird, I have never seen such formatting on any of their articles before. It looks like someone just copied the words from word to the HTML editor.
edit: they have fixed the text formatting now.

CCP Shanghai is looking for HR & Admin Specialist and QA Intern. Though https://www.ccpgames.com/careers/portal/?location=Shanghai lists no jobs.

Not sure if this relates to recent Serenity events, since EVE Shanghai is described as “Home to the Gunjack development team” on https://www.ccpgames.com/careers/shanghai.

Honestly despite the Chinese government’s strict stance on a publisher, I never have agreed to a concurrent server running along side TQ. If this were any other game we are talking about, I wouldn’t see it as much of an issue; however, the primary marketing and philosophy behind this game is a single shard universe. If someone logs on to play EVE you can expect to find and interact with them when you log in no matter where either are you are from.

Having TQ and Serentiy is counter to that core development and philosophy, I say let it die. If the EVE players in China really want EVE, they need to convince the gov to allow CCP to handle it. However, China is a heavily filtered and censored country sooo I don’t see that happening. Would it be right to deny those players the opportunity to play EVE as well? Perhaps it isn’t us/CCP who is denying them but their own gov. No matter what publisher they choose, there will always be the same issues regarding the game. As CCPs IP they should forbid any changes made to the game that CCP hasn’t made. If China wants to filter and censor icons and logos, they need to make their own game because that is essentially what they are doing.

Short of that, I don’t blame CCP for not making sure the server is updated. They push out updates so fast now compared to 10 years ago that it would be too time consuming and not even worth it to wrestle with getting Chinese gov approval, essentially ‘policing’ the publisher that is using their IP, and maintaining any issues that arise between the publisher and CCP. I would rather see Serentiy merged into TQ and shutdown or just flat out shutdown.

But maybe fearing the consequences of becoming a completely “foreign game” to China and its political repurcussions, CCP would rather want Serenity alive, at least that’s what they said on the Fanfest (see Hilmar’s statement I mentioned before).

http://ccm.gov.cn/ tells that Netease had obtained Ministry of Culture and Tourism approval for EVE online: Lifeblood.

There had been many discussion and news article in the past 3 hours, though there are no official announcements yet.

Finally, the last straw.

Not yet.

What can you tell us about Netease? They seem to be one of the larger companies in Chinese Internet Business. Are there any expectations how they would deal with EVE?

They are know for bullshitting commercial partners, and going for straight up min/max application of business models. They do have the advantage of ties to a certain ministry however, although that is mostly shady - which isn’t smart to bank on as a non-Chinese venture hooking up with them potentially.

They are scrounging for money, for investor relations, but they are smart enough to not make it look like they are. Yet something’s been bleeding, not uncommon.

Who knows. Honestly, what could be worse than Tiancheng …

There is something else written there.

Timeline

Jul 31 09:00-All services on Tiancity’s service exchange platform, all events on Tiancity website, and use of PLEX and AUR in game will be suspended.

Sep 30 09:00-The server will be shut down.

Oct 15 -Tiancity’s website, forum and customer service will be shut down.

Who to believe?

It also states clearly on packaging for handover. On top of that, CCP has been working on this for nearly two years now, and they have made clear that due to political considerations they will prefer a seperate Chinese EVE.

from anno online closing, i have learned to never trust a game company when they say they arent going to do something like close servers.

meanwhile ccp is saying its just a hand over and its not closing

Yes, probably they would want to do a handover rather quickly.

I wonder what will became with progress, alliances, do the database will continue or just “new game” for everyone.

Maybe they can be harsher to bots because it is a larger company. Maybe not because of EVE’s intrinsic constraints and Europe being strict on user privacy. But that’s very uncertain until we see how Netease’s EVE runs months later.
