Well I’m pretty sure my 2017 27" i7 iMac with an 8Gb Radeon Pro 580 used to sit at 60fps when in the station. It’s now at 40.
Running windowed mode with scaling set to 175%

Awesome thing with Mac client !
Thank you CCP.
resolution / window size/ scaling question:
What do you advise (retina 27i iMac - Redeon Pro 580)
I haven’t been satisfied with CCP’s decisions or policy for the past couple of years. But I just want to say thank you for this one! It’s such an improvement. It’s as if I’m playing EVE for the first time again – everything looks so much different and better. And I can feel my machine handling the client better, I can go on max graphics settings and it runs smooth.
Grazie!
I have a similar question about resolution/window size/scaling. In the WIne version Full Screen is 2560x1440. When I went into window mode, it was always less than 2560x1440. With the Native MAC client, Full Screen is 2560 x 1440, but when I go to window mode it goes to 4096 x 3304 and my poor old eyes can see the postage stamp size blocks information on the Client. I expected it to act like the WINE Client and that windowed mode was going to be slightly smaller than the Full Screen.
I just threw my PC in the bin!!
Unfortunately, the Mac client is still as unplayable in a 2018 Mac Mini as the two Mac Sisi tests earlier this year.
Since I can’t choose to continue using the Wine client, I’ve unsubbed all my accounts.
Love the performance gain with this native client on my 15" 2018 MBP!
But I see a few issues with this:
Dragging is hella buggy. Using Apple Magic Trackpad, when dragging anything in the client, it shakes like a madman. It’s not just visual either–it actually shakes the content I’m dragging, be it a window, an item, camera, so on. Same issue when using the trackpad on MBP itself. Funny thing is, the issue isn’t there on ESC menu screen. Dragging works as expected.
We need options to scale game screen, independently of UI, while in Windowed Mode. Due to the extreme resolutions on Retina screen on this device, as well as the external 5K LG Monitor I use daily, the resolutions can go up crazy high, and as a result, tax GPU heavily. I’d love to be able to size the client window freely without taking heavy hit on performance without using fullscreen mode. (I know I can scale down the screen’s resolution to use less pixels, but I just got used to using this display with more screen space.)
Other than these two issues I see right out of the gate, the client is running a LOT better than Wine client! This will be amazing when I get my hands on the new M1X (or M2 or whatever) MBP coming out next week drool
not coming.
macOS handles the game window size based on the desktop scaling. This means that the client resolution can be rendered the ‘same’ by the client, but be different sizes depending on this setting.
Eg, in these screenshots the client resolution is the same but the desktop scaling is changed:
One is taking up a little over 1/4 of the screen space, while the other is effectively a full-screen windowed mode.
There are really good reasons macOS does this, but it can be unusual for things like games. We’ve been discussing this internally and with Apple, but there isn’t a perfect solution right now.
Edit - there are tools that may help with this that some people found useful in the playtests: Native Mac Client Playtest - General Feedback - #118 by Ender_Tunin
We have to be careful with default behaviour, so we’re letting the OS handle it currently.
Did your Apple update break your Windows client?
I can’t alt/tab between characters without a three second pause followed by a three to five second black screen. Cycling through a lot of logged in characters is a complete mess now.
When did this start? Why… just after the Apple update. That’s when.
Mr Epeen
This is one of the issue I had with the current client.
But I believe the issue can be solved if we can have down-scale option for windowed mode, where it doesn’t render at the same scaling as macOS does.
Without this, no Mac is capable of handling 6000x3000 or more resolution at playable framerates, forcing downscaling the entire OS to be able to play this game in windowed mode. (Let’s not kid ourselves. This game isn’t really playable in fullscreen mode since 3rd party web tools are a must.)

edit:
i don’t have problems with eve in wine , I’ve being playing like this for all this years , but i wont update my old ass mac more than high sierra because catalina +++ suck … and i don’t want to lose all my games on steam, im not the only one
mac users tend to stick with their computers for MANY years , some have a brand new mac m1 , in the future i will
but ATM ill keep my imac 2014 ty very much
i suggest old launcher for some years ahead for those who have old macs
plz plz plz
@Geo_Eclipse_Oksaras
i used the word launcher but i was thinking about the client
Mac Client isnt working for me. Launcher is 1949381 (Latest Version) and Mac is running Big Sur 11.5.2
Launcher starts to Start game client then nothing happens…
Just curious, since I don’t have one:
love the green Quafe skins, btw, where Big Blue meets Apple Green
This is a non-starter for me, as I’ll often be doing other things with eve open and I need the screen real estate in other apps. There’s no way to run a game at 50% resolution in windowed mode like the old client did?
YESSSS!!!
Yes ! Thank you, thank you. On MacBook Pro2017 on Big Sur 11.6 and it looks great. No sluggish UI, no pause between clicks.
The ‘only’ thing that is unexpected was that the fan is still running hot. I thought the Mac client was going to reduce that somewhat ?
Have you tried in window mode to grab a corner and just resize?
Not sure if you posted your screen size anywhere or res. Sorry if I’m being blind.
