Event Feedback - Guardian's Gala 2019

Good to see you, @CCP_Dragon and thanks for popping on to say hello. I seriously can’t overstate how much it means to see devs pop onto the forums, even if it’s just to say hi. At least it lets us know that somebody is reading and actually keeping up on what the community is saying.

Man, I totally feel that. I really get that the forums generally become a place for whining and venting and can definitely become a “no good deed goes unpunished” zone. That’s definitely a crappy environment for a dev to walk into and I’m sure can seem like a no-win situation where a comment might just invite more vitriol and piling-on. Nobody wants to be told that their work sucks and have to defend it to a bunch of pissed off people. I’ve been there, I get it.

That said, there’s a lot of frustration here that is born out of:

  1. Bugs that seem to be going unpatched or keep coming back.
  2. More responses from CCP popping up on Reddit than the official forum thread
  3. A brewing PR mess stemming from a lot of the issues that are coming up here and aren’t even getting a “Yep, that’s intentional” reply.

Personally, I’m not asking anybody from CCP to show up so I can kick them (though I’m sure others disagree). The more reasonable and less emotional of us here would really just like to know that somebody is listening and hopefully have a constructive dialog.

I hope your new team is treating you well and you are working on stuff you enjoy, and thanks again for posting.

I’ll pass it on. Thanks!

Eh? i thought event team reads/monitors this dedicated thread. Are they afraid of raw feedback so they need to get it passed to them on a silver plate?

Falcon already said he was going to do that, 4 days ago.

One of the CCP devs responded on Reddit and claimed that the ore reprocessing ratio is intentional.
I really think he is aggroing the players, seriously
This is not how you should respond when players say that the requirements for event is ridiculous

half of the event’s gone, is the patch really gonna come before it ends?

And yeah, i remembered seeing another dev talking about incoming patch like half a week ago too

I was really hoping to see a Patch Note about this today. (and that is why CCP says so very little about what is going on behind the scenes in these forums. Every “looking into” is treated as if it were a promise, so for the most part companies will err on the side of too much silence.)

Quick comment on these loot boxes/ gifts.

Eve allows players to scam each other, I guess they can scam us too. I never fell for it, from players or CCP.

So how many fell for it?

There is a really unfortunate thing about the phrasing there: no variation of “looking into” means that anything will be changed. As much as we can see, they may “looked into” the balance of the lootboxes every day since the first day of the event, and just left it as it is every single time.

OK, not trying to be mean-spirited here, but just came across this and literally LOLed.

In a way, this event was what made me finally buy a T3 cruiser… That’s a thing!

So true. Because of forum noise and agendas, all they can look at is statistics about sites attempted, sites completed over time, “golden tickets” turned in, etc. And if players stopped doing these things, does that mean (to a data analyst) that this event is not satisfying to players, or that players are getting tired of events in general, and the developer time might be better spent elsewhere?

I still can see players doing the event sites in highsec, maybe 25% of other events. What I can’t see is, how much are just buy and gamble.

The none reaction to the complaints can only mean, either the team has no clue/resources how to fix it short term … or things work mostly as intended and the bugs are not worth bothering. Both do not give a bright picture of CCP’s event team and management.

Please remember not every customer has this level of patience or time to be posting on the forums either.

When they leave because of the company’s inadequacies, they are gone.

The site is unbalanced. When the boss arrives it can take one by suprise how powerful he is. But I will not complain about this - I am really worried about the rewards. I searched in the game and the Internet and have no clue where to find an “paradise Club” - !!! the site is hard and for most Player risiky. There are no bounty´s- OK I like the skin´s as reward… but when I see that someone who risked his ships several times is only rewarded with BS… Boosters… paah… no Need for Boosters… This is designed as a shipkiller site not as an Event to look for… and then getting less than you have to pay… Shame on you…

The “paradise club” is the structure in front of you, in each site. Approach it under 2000m and “open container” to see what it offers. (or, more properly… what it demands from you, for a low percent chance at some loot.)

Thank you very much for your answer - after reading the comments I am not sure if I want to give away my money for things not worth it… Minerals are by 2,2 Mio. ISK each + 13 Mio… than getting … a box with random items - BPC´s Boosters… when I get get crap then I get angry… and then it is not a Event do it or not … it could get personel … aah one try perhaps… again Thank you for commenting so fast…

Thanks for posting.

I think this event is a total loss and you guys should not waste any time trying to fix it, it would be very difficult to do so with the remaining time on it left, and then you’d have to keep extending it, etc. Its overall just not a good idea.

Instead, what you ought to do is just come out and apologize to these people and make it clear to them how it will be made up in the next one.

Just simply stop putting all the stuff people complain about into the events.

Mining requirement - make this an option instead of requirement. There are a lot of people in your game that despise mining. Really don’t like it, and you forcing it on them is a very bad thing. So either make it optional so that it becomes truly inclusive or remove it. But do not keep it as “required”

High skill requirements - I guess its a choice for you to how many players you want to do the events. Obviously the higher this goes, the lower the participation will be. In addition, it puts pressure on players to use injectors, which puts a very bad taste in many of them to the point where it turns them off from the game entirely.

Accelerators - I have seen it stated somewhere (and I don’t remember where) by CCP that there are way too many accelerators coming into the game and it needs to be reduced. But there is a huge difference between being reduced and what we have now.

if accelerators are truly this much of a problem then just remove them entirely from the events and replace with something else. The events need to make some ISK, not be an ISK sink, so do keep that in mind when you do this.

Further on accelerators, if you want to retain some accelerators, but don’t want to experiment with the balance of how many to allow per event, then how about just have them come in as every 2 or 3 events at their regular plentiful rates and have the remaining ones focus on other rewards. This way players will be happy while you end up with average accelerators in the game not exceeding what your goal is for them.

But I can’t stress enough, how important it is for you guys to just come out and make some specific comments about the specific issues raised here. If you do not, you will lose players over this, have already lost some, and will continue losing until either you figure out what you will do and let them know about it, or it bottoms out.

I know you CCP_Dragon did not work on this, but would you please pass this on to the appropriate people ?

What mining requirement? Different players have different opinions about what is right and wrong with the event. While I have mined some of the rocks to get a feel for the quantities and terrible, intentionally low refine rate, I can completely ignore the mining and shoot NPC’s for a chance at their loot. (I simply won’t get as much loot, if I perhaps wisely ignore the Paradise Club and its demands for 13m isk and Tricarbs.)

I can buy skill accelerators on the market. I can buy Tricarbs on the market. If someone else is mining - I can spend my time in some other way, make isk and ignore the mining completely.

I suppose if you are that ISK rich that you can jsut buy all accelerators needed for all your toons then this is truly not an issue for you. However, not everyone is like that. If you are such a player then what is even the purpose of running the event at all beyond a bit of novelty to lower the boredom ?

And its not just about buying stuff from market. Go ahead and build accelerators, by yourself, from scratch, without mining. Oh and do so on a single account so that you have to switch ships or characters. Lets see how that goes for you.
