Look, I won’t comment on the cost until CCP makes an announcement. That is how an NDA works.
Most of the folks commenting in this thread are vets so I ask you to think back to when you had NO skills and had to decide what to train next, worried that that time might be wasted. That you would fall behind. Or that you would decide on a career only to find that you did not enjoy it and all those skills had been misplaced.
Yes, extractors work, for Omega pilots. That is not who this is targeting. This is for the real new players, not alts, the first-timers. A chance to see what a difference these skills or those make and then reset with the option to add them to your skill queue, all lined up to train. Or maybe try something else.
No, it should not be free. This game is not ‘free’ although Alpha status has given it that false label. But, as the news item said . . .
Expert Systems, in their current form, will be obtainable only from the EVE Store and others will occasionally be part of daily login rewards.
So they may, now and again be the free taste some of you think it should be.
Overall? I can see the point of this and also understand why some of you are angry. I will keep reading this forum and occasionally visit reddit because that is what I do but so far? I think that the systems are a good thing and that they bring something to the game without taking anything away.
My fav complain so far is ‘rawr p2w’! Most folks who do this one obviously have not played Eve because they would know that a poor player with a bling skillset or ship are still easy meat.
Fine fine fine… What are you going to do with the losers called CODE ? How can you leave new players to be extorted and ganked by a bunch of ravenous monkeys who pray on the weak for profit in a racketeering scheme that spans dozens of systems?
Nope. Not even gonna bother write of successful p2p mmo games out there. Also, when alpha was introduced CCP didn’t advertised it that way.
Again how short sighted someone must be to believe that person who find lost time or isk annoying, will be satisfied in wasting money on trial run? Without any in game currency, items, SP, nothing. You put money that you can invest in plex, injectors, whatever. Just so it can vaporize in 7 days.
As person who works with new players for years. You should know that ability to sit in new shiny ship means nothing. It learns nothing about game and don’t fix even single NPE issue that are in game for ages. Reported and never touched.
Again, instead vaporizing RL money at lest give ability to buy skill plans with SP. Same effect without losing value of money.
Say that to poor newbie that will rage quit after losing new shiny ship because 5$ (or whatever it will cost) worth of skills that vaporize is not OP.
I was respecting you Mike for what you did for community over the years and tried to stay calm. But now, I’m really disappointed…
And just to be clear. I don’t say that idea of ability to test stuff in advance is terrible. It sounds ok, but still don’t fix single issue with NPE and retention. My problems is that it can be achieved in multiple different ways but CCP decided to go for simplest rip off. Cleary showing that main goal is not new player or health of the game but health of the company wallet.
Your problem with new players is not the lack of developmentspeed and dificulty for new players in eve but rather the lack of content beyond gathering goods and money to fuel sensless wars in pointless areas where nothing of relevance is beyond some aging, meaningles corps and alliances.
To rejuvate eve you need real content OF THE WORLD OF EVE…that is why World of Warcraft and Starcraft are still alive and well. There is Story, Background and lots of playermade fluf to be consumed and relived. In eve there is nothing to do than gettign your 20 30 mio skill points wich took me under a year and than there is nothing than either just do things in highsec you do better in 0sec and go to war.
Again dear CCP your prob is the focus on PvP as main content instead as its appropriate place as purely byplaying option of action.
Because people don’t want to pay. so, backing to my previous point. If someone don’t want pay 15$ or whatever per month. He won’t pay for something with no long term benefit/value
If you run out of arguments. Just stop. trying to turn this into something personal won’t work.
I say lets try it out, this is for the Newbros. Maybe CCP learns something out of it that they not know now.
But the real question is when is CCP selling something to the vets?
Hi CCP.
Have you considered giving an automatically applied expert system the first time someone completes one of the tutorial arcs for a profession, i.e. finish the industry tutorial get an appropriate expert system.
This could easily be locked to also only if they have below x Sp if there are concerns about veteran players who have not done the arcs abusing them.
This addresses the fact that they seem a little exploitative by encouraging sinking money into the game for a player who does not know where to get the best for their dollar.
LoL. While I was typing my post about the same thing you made this post as well. Nice timing.
That might be true yes back then we all where asking ourself what to train all the cool things and cant deside what to learn first.
But ccp comeing in like sorry you dont have the skills but for only 1.99 you can buy it for 7 days with all the other skills to do exploration and if you order right away you not only get the skills you also got a fancy hat for it (note learning basic exploration skills needs mabye 100 000 sp or so) and normaly if you train somethng try it find out its nothing for you you will change the que long befor you sunk in millions of sp
and yes the shady telle sales vibe is sarcasm that thats what it feels like in my head as i read it. Also vets know sp alone dont bring you a single advantage in eve sp without the knowlege required that is. And for that there is no expert thing to buy.
If ccp wanted to help players they would make a feature that would give people a list a basic skill plans mabye desinded around that they are learnable with 50 000 sp. people could aplly them from the agency or something and npe mabye gives them the skill books as a final mission reward.
It’s a good thing, I’m not dissing it. I hope LOTS of rookies will use them to explore new stuff to do.
Bitter vets at that.
They all have ideas that benefit THEM.
How many times I’ve read threads pretending to care for new players then this comes along and they’re all there with their pitchforks… Ridiculous.
