How about somebody define what is toxic game play. Seems to me that the definition is: something I don’t like in game.
Do you even read the forums here?
Or any EvE related material?
Or even local?
Carebears are the most toxic group you can find. I routinely get threats of death and worse from carebears that I never see from others.
That’s what some of us are concerned the official definition will become. But we’re not supposed to be concerned about this. Mizhir says we should go ahead and trust everything the corporations, that bow and scrape to even the minimum social pressure, tell us.
Would you be happy to go and report them and join in with the other tender souls who want safe spaces.
Because if someone I spoke to in AG did that type of reaction I would tell them that they were acting like a plonker, and I would hope that disapproval from me as a member of that community would do the job…
Drac, this makes no sense. It would under different circumstances, but not under these.
It is carebears who demand safe spaces, and it is carebears who can rightfully be called the most toxic people playing EVE. It is carebears who demand (!) that the game is tailored towards their inadequacies and it is carebears who will not stop pretending to be good people while constantly exposing what they truly are.
People like the poster above do not ask for a safe space. What “we” ask for is that those who behave like trash, while claiming moral superiority, are being removed for the betterment of the community as a whole.
This has NOTHING to do with safe spaces, at all. When people do whatever necessary to get what they want, then that is not an issue regarding ones feelings, but an actual danger for everyone around. (both virtually and in real life, because these people do not make a distinction between these two)
Though I really have my doubts that this alliance will actually change anything about this…
to make a distinction between two things… sounds wrong. i need to look this up. My english sucks.
So…no definition. Great. This will end well.
Did you even read what I wrote? There is a difference between ingame conflict and RL-targeted harassment. Threatening someone in RL or doxxing them has nothing to do with gameplay. It’s this toxic behaviour that they want to stop. The scamming and ganking will stay because that’s actually ingame stuff.
If someone were to make an out of game video calling on Amarr leadership to declare full jihad on a certain James and his pals, would that be toxic behavior or within-the-rules propaganda?
Goofy stuff like this is why we need actual definitions.

Okay, that’s fine. Those are already bannable offenses though. What more do you want?
See this is where I see this going.
Player A : Does X in game to Player B.
Player B: Not liking X responds in a “toxic manner”.
Now B is in trouble. What A did was “in game” and supposedly legitimate. But how do we prevent B from engaging in the toxic bahavior? There is already a punishment and that punishment is about as far as one can go. That is, you aren’t going to do anything to the person behind B IRL. So…why not look at A’s in game behavior that elicited the toxic response from B? Was A’s in game behavior toxic? Now maybe you have a solution to B’s bad behavior that I am unaware of, but color me skeptical.
I have seen toxicity from a wide range of players. I think much of it comes from their feelings of entitlement. But if they are crossing the line then report them.
I am not telling people to blindly trust CCP but seems like EVE players are keen to worry about the worst case scenario and then fill the forum with their concerns without being rational. Makes me think of the old joke:
How many EVE players does it take to change a light bulb?
Change? Nooooo
You seem to misunderstand the purpose and think that all ‘Player Bs’ get punished. Sure there is already a system for punishing them. But toxicity is still an issue and there is room for improvements, which is the point of the alliance.
What you are implying is that they completely change the system. Player A wouldn’t be punished for blowing up B, unless A does something that’s against the EULA.
Yes that is a common statement completely unanchored from any sort of empirics. It is really a stellar example of cheap talk.
You said they want to stop it. Getting better at punishment is not really stopping it…that is my issue. Do they want to get better at punishing and removing such players or stop it before it starts? If it is the latter then there can be problems.
Well I get told I am demanding safe spaces as a rabid carebear when I criticize certain un-balanced mechanics, such as bumping.
I have seen some explosions of toxic anger from victims after a meaningful loss and I have seen excessive gloating toxicity from aggressors.
Seen that from the other side of the coin too.
Sadly you are making an error in suggesting that people on the other side can’t accept that it is just a game, I certainly accept that people playing a game against me want to get inside my head and affect me, so as to win, it is normal gameplay after all. I would not presume to suggest that someone being bad in this game is bad in real life and vice versa… (adjusted that to make it easier for you, it was rather poor English on my part…)
Hopefully it is just window dressing to appear to do enough for the various do-gooders who are taking a major aim at the games industry…
Player A shoots up player B, player B was mining quite peacefully until his/her or its ship explodes in a rather dramatic fashion. At this point player A demands a small clerical fee from player B, player B scratches his/her or its head and wonders why he has to pay more money for a game he already pays for so he says no to player A and undocks in another mining ship and carries on regardless of player A.
Player A then demands yet another clerical fee from player B and explodes him/her or its ship again, at this point player B lets of a tirade of abuse at player A. After the verbal assault in game player A says you need to pay the clerical fee or you explode again, player B who has been playing for just over a week loses it and says player A fingers might not work correctly in real life after player B visits player A for a quick chat. At this point CCP gets involved perma bans player B for actual threats while player A records it all for the amusement of player C who is sitting 25k of target in a cloaky loaky laughing his/her or its arse off at the ineptitude of player B who should go back to wow.
Hehehe. What are you talking about people?
Riot, Blizzard and Twitch are going to fight versus toxicity gaming like victims doing this in the video below
Talking with EVE terms, it’s hard to do while you are tackled by floating circle
It will be impossible to stop it completely. But any improvements will reduce the problem.
It would make no sense to punish the players who don’t break the EULA so it’s honestly quite unrealistic to think that this will suddenly mean that they will go for the players who just play thr game.
And you guys seem to assume that all toxicity is provoked, like ganking. But the case is that much harassment happens just because someone is different. A common case is female players being harassed for being female. Something that’s completely irrelevant for gameplay.
I am trying to come up with catch-alls, but it doesn’t work. Every side is correct in parts, no one holds the truth and every side has their extremists. The only oney who truly suck are those who claim moral superiority on their side, while displaying opposite behaviour. I do not favour one side over the other, but i am absolutely biased against those who demand free speech and freedom of choice to be crippled.
Complicated, really. Sometimes starting something will automatically lead to a desaster and considering the absolutely nuts PC culture (it’s fascism. You’re welcome.) a desaster is going to happen.
It is my honest belief that wiping every single crackpot is the best course of action. I mean… think of it. Who cares about human rights when they can’t treat us like humans anyway, right? What’s the ■■■■■■■ point? All I honestly want is that everyone feels happy and does not need to worry about anything. I believe that we all deserve to live a life of happiness, no matter what. For this, of course, we need some rules. Thanks to modern technology, NOTHING can be hidden anymore and every single subconscious clue given can be used against evil people, so why not put that to good use? It’s for you, after all! It is an absolutely fair trade-off, because I can offer you protection and safety from literally all evil-doers.
Thanks to the wonders of modern technology, I can track everything everyone does for all our convinience. No one can ever again make you feel ungood again. Everything will come to order. We all love being happy, and because we all love being happy, I will take care of everything that could make people unhappy.
You pretend to be a good person, while actually lying through your teeth all the time? One year of community work for a start and -10 points on your score. You blow someone up in a game and deliberately contact him to humiliate him, noticable and deliberately keeping at it? -50 points, and you’re thrown to jail. Bye and good riddance. You call gankers sociopath and claim moral superiority? Well, ■■■■ you, -30 points and six months. You issue death threats because you lost space pixels? -100 points, solitary confinement, kiss your life good bye and have a nice day. You harass someone you know is depressive, for hours? Your social score is being wiped, and therefore you will hang in a public place, for everyone to see. This kind of warning is a great community service, as it reminds everyone how not to behave and that we need plus good ways of causing unincentiveness.
Why not just skip the coming years and instead jump to the conclusion early. Everyone behaves like I want it, or else.
Seriously I expected yet another @DrysonBennington thread…
They had to change it in naval action, open world pvp. But people were ganking ships just outside port and completely abusing it. Developers were on it fast, wow is going the same way optional pvp because the goldshire gank squads among others. Someone even tried to mess with my sailing on sailaway wanting to join my boat just to f**k with my course sailing from the UK to Australia. Its industry wide not just Eve Online, difference being CCP find it funny when its in game but its still toxic and crap gameplay nethertheless.
