FAO CSM; Local and Intel tools

Not in null, but I believe that if local is delayed so ratters cannot see who enters, then the ones entering shouldnt get to see who’s in local either until the cloak is broken

Oh, no! People paying attention to the fu¢king game are ruining your ability to gank them, so CCP must absolutely nerf their ability to pay attention to the game.

Martha, do you hear yourself?

Right, because nothing breaks game balance like people paying attention. Better nerf awareness so gankers can relax again.
How dare players notice what’s happening around them. CCP should really fix this unbearable problem of situational awareness.
Apparently the real issue isn’t ganking mechanics, but the audacity of players who watch their screens. Imagine blaming CCP because your targets aren’t AFK enough.

Sounds fair to me.

If connecting to local chat happens once gate cloak breaks instead of upon entering the system, it makes sense that players get to see local chat and the players in it only after gate cloak breaks too.

There are a lot of bad faith arguments in this thread already, but I’m going to say the quiet part out loud.

When you jump a gate in low or null, you appear in local before you load grid. You’re in local before you even have a chance to D-Scan. This is problem one.

Problem two, and a much bigger problem (in my opinion) is that almost every null player uses an API scraper to AFK rat which sounds an audible alarm on their PC when a neutral enters local. This has been allowed for WAY too long, and it’s beyond time CCP acknowledge and remove it.

It’s awful for the state of the game, it encourages non-engaging game play, and it’s borderline TOS. CCP leaves it alone, because they’re afraid of losing players - but it needs to go, and local delay needs to be implemented.

End of.

Someone doesn’t know how the Api works… ccp doesn’t like if you call Api more then like once per 5 mins ish

And you can explain how this should work?

  • Which API key gives you information about the local chat? And the caracters in it to differentiate between blues and non-blues?
    And more important:
  • How does it work instantly? API information is time-restricted, you can only fetch data every so often…

Like Local is a problem, or that null players all use API scrapers, or the entire premise behind your argument to begin with?

Lets start with those bad faith arguments.

I’m not even going to directly respond to the failure to actually address the issue in the responses above this. If you want to pretend that localthreat & EVE-Alert don’t exist, by all means - but you’re likely part of the problem.

Happy New Year.

Never claimed they didn’t exist. Just don’t see where they’re a problem or that CCP can do fu¢k all about it, so if you want to beat your head against a brick wall, you go right ahead. Don’t expect me to encourage your concussion.

Some things are worth complaining about, but complaining about something that no one can do anything about is fu¢king ridiculous.

No one is going to take you serious if you build your argumentation on lies or misinformation.

That’s not a problem of local chat, but of CCP’s utter incompetence to code their software properly. People like you and the OP basically demand a “fix” for a problem that has nothing to do with local chat, but with how CCP prioritizes and manages the processing order of signals. tell them to fix that and your issue is solved without the need to change anything with regards to local chat.

Well, changing the order of steps to only entering local chat once the client confirms it has fully loaded system/grid would actually be an improvement. It equals out reaction times a bit. I mean we are mostly talking about 1-2 ticks here, but those can make the difference in some situations.

Not that it would change much in the bigger picture, but it would be a) more logical and b) a step into the right direction. And one that could probably be coded very easily.

You clearly don’t understand how these programs actually work…

A program as such would only need a screenshot… which is how you bypass the 5mins on the API.
But this also means its impossible to know if someone is using it or not.

Unless CCP starts to use invasive monitoring software like Riot’s Vanguard to track everything you do on your PC. Knowing CCP’s coding capabilities and track record of using invasive coding (boot.ini, anyone?), I really don’t want that kind of software from their coders on our PCs just to satisfy some bad PVPers.

So, when do you start there again?

You’re the uber-coder that can fix all, so go apply already.

I’m not totally opposed to that but I think my original suggestion still favours null but just adds a tiny bit of uncertainty and danger (to space that should be). Leaving things as they are, or using your suggestion, I’d still take yours - it’s not what I would have wanted, it still heavily favours null, but it’s better than what is currently there.

Using my suggestion gives time to DSCAN what’s in range during a gate cloak, it also shows that people are actually present. If they’re in local but not in DSCAN range, then they’re probably at a far anom and you can take a guess - tbh, they’ll probably be gone by the time you exit warp anyway.

Using your suggestion means if they’re not in DSCAN range, as soon as you move they’ll know you’re present and have more than ample time to react. If the warps are long (which they are outside of DSCAN) then they’ll probably be gone anyway. At this stage, it’s really just try random far anoms and hope you get lucky.

tldr; I’d prefer my implementation, but I’d settle for yours. Mine still heavily favours null… IMO local should be delayed and people should rely on DSCAN/Probes/Scouts.

Local was never supposed to be an intel tool - it is a relic of a more innocent time for people to chat to one another. The intel tools that were supposed to be in use are DSCAN, Probes and Scouts.

While that is true, try selling that to the players now after people have gotten used to it for almost two decades… sometimes, if the toothpaste is out of the tube, there isn’t a way to squeeze it back in.
Nullsecs residents today rather stop playing than giving up their “local as intel” toolset. And CCP cannot afford that, they have tried and it ended in a desaster.

Think you all overestimate even how much ccp know about the code they bought… They also dont run the chat servers anymore.

And if y’all remember when they did the blackout they had issues getting chat back…lol cause they don’t know the code to do it in the first place
