The more official time ofc
Ok, did the southern and eastern route, I got 25 points (of 36 possible). What a waste of time.
Maybe it’s fun for people not used to travel outside highsec, or never seen the monuments before. I regret to have started this…
When were these times pulled? The previous downtime? That’s what your post seems to imply. A lazy stopwatch on mine puts me easily on the leaderboard by minutes, but I don’t show there. @CCP_Convict Is there any ESI endpoint for these times? Or anyway to get them more up-to-date? The previous day is really outdated.
Just wait until tomorrow, you already have an idea where you are, waiting at most 24 hours to get official confirmation really isn’t too much to ask.
Same thing with me. Finished my run last night, hours before the leaderboard was updated and I should also be in the top ten.
What a pity there’s just space for mere 5 corpses in a Shuttle…
@CCP_Convict
Question about rules:
- Is using jump clones prohibited?
- Is using jump bridges prohibited?
- Is it allowed to kill your pod to spawn closer to your destination?
I mean these could shave minutes off traversing long or dangerous passages in a blink of an eye…
And one more question: I keep getting the north route again and again (even tried letting it expire). How do I enter the other extra laps? I’ve already completed the northern route before once.
Let’s check tomorrow then and see if you and @Xafen_Katapi appear on the next update. This data comes from a delayed copy of the live database, not the live database itself so there will be lag with the numbers. This is unavoidable. As I said in OP I’ll be updating daily with the previous day’s results.
Effectively nothing - short of using actual exploits which would be forbidden in the course of normal gameplay - is prohibited. If you can think of clever ways to shave off minutes or avoid dangerous gatecamps then more power to you!
Re: the issue with getting the Northern Route over and over again - I’m not sure, perhaps @CCP_Fozzie can answer that if he drops by this thread again. Otherwise I’ll bring it up with him after the weekend! This contest runs for another 10 days so I’m sure there’ll be plenty of time to get it sorted and get your runs in.
If I am not wrong,
- using jump clones would be useless as you would need 24h minus your skill level in Infomorph Synchronizing to be able to jump again.
- jumps bridges are in NS only so if you find one or several on the route that allows you to gain time, it’s probably ok but I am not sure the rules allow it
- killing your pod could be an option too but it would mean you would have set up the destination station (where your pod would spawn) as your home station before AND that this destination station is either your “School Station”, your current station, or a corporate office in a structure … Not sure you beat the timer this way …
Use a blops following you and a lot of cyno alts to jump your race char around. With “conventional” methods you can’t save much time.
everytime you finish/fail a route it will generate a random route for you as the new objective, so you can try 3 times and get 3 different routes or you can get the northern route over and over which also has the longest reset time
either way looking forward to my eastern time at the top of the leaderboards tomorrow, absolutely beasted the current record of 25:50
Got the southern route now after letting the north one expire a couple of times. Not very convenient but works :). Thanks!
Actually, you can use covert jump portal to jump from highsec to low/nullsec. But as @CCP_Convict said, there’s no rules against it, so, it’s okay anyway…
From the OP:
- Capsuleers are free to be as creative or as devious as they wish. If you come up with some sneaky way to shave off some precious seconds (or entire jumps) then go for it!
So lets say I run this in an inertial stabbed, hyperspatial, purple sin. I’ll have to time it myself then if I want a time since I can’t get to destos in time, correct?
Edit: and I have little to no chance of getting on the leaderboard for an official time?
CCP, with all due politeness. I think this Event needs a little expanding.
Your event instructions were very confusing because you worded it in a way that made it seem Interceptors/Frigates/Shuttles/Luxury Yachts were the only viable options. [Recommended isn’t really a good word to use…Suggested is better.]
Overall time leaderboard is okay, but alot of capsuleers have other outside of in game system advantages like wormhole routing systems. And also in game advantages [ie corporation and agreements with gankers/ specialized fittings+implants.]
I think you need to expand the way this Event Works.
Overall Time is okay. But it needs to be noted as such. [Non-Circuit]
Here are the Categorizes for the Grand Prix. And they need to have several ways to be tracked. [You have these internal checking systems, I know this.]
Overall Fastest Time - [Ship+Implants+Skills+Route] This must be noted. [This is the base line that you already have in game]
[^] Circuit [adhering to the map routes.]
You can do a “Safe” (Majority High Sec) Circuit time vs. a “Unsafe” ( Majority LS/Null) Circuit Time. [Depending on Route information.]
[^] Non-Circuit [use of Drifter WH system, WH systems, Cyno Shortcuts]
Also Alpha Best Time / Omega Best Time. If an alpha does it even without an interceptor you have to give them kudos for it!
Categories the above times will then be applied onto various category ships.
- Capsule: Top Time done in a Capsule.
- Shuttle: Top Time Done in a Shuttle
- T1 Ships: Frigates/Industrials/Destroyers/Cruisers/Battlecruisers/Battleships Top TImes.
- Factional Ships: [Navy/Pirate] Same Divided Categories.
- T2 Ships + Tactical Destroyers: Frigates/Expedition Frigates/ Industrials/Destroyers/Cruiser/Battlecruiser/Battleship Variants of T2. Plus Tactical Destroyers.
- T3C will have their own category by themselves.
- Special Edtion Ships: Top Time for these ships this includes Leopards, CSM Shuttles, Pacifier, Enforcer, Luxury Yacht, and the Zephyr. Or any other special edition ship. Many categories here. [For WH reasons]
[Sadly no Super Cap Racing or Titan Racing…that would be interesting no?]
Also the Grand Prix could be used for a competition as well, like the largest amount of cargo m3 or highest value ISK delivered [Start/Finish] on a circuit/non circuit run to see how that will play out for the capsuleers.
Your monument would have the top ten pilots overall time + their ship used.
Then a sub monument for the ship types used.
Grand Prix Monument would have different components like a Frigate Monument for overall Frigate Times etc. for each category. So you would have a Monument for the top Capsuleers and a monument for each category of ship. Which would make it kind of a cool system to look at.
And yes make a special monument near the Luminarie Junk Yard, called the Flying Jalopy. Enshrining the doing it wrong players and their ships.
Also the Timed Event would be interesting to have with a bit more work around. Especially if you category award players. I had a bit of fun running it with a Prowler Blockade Runner and having nearly 4m to spare at the end.
I know this might be out of league for this years event. But, please consider making unique multi-hull skins for First/Second/Third Place by Category in Next Years Grand Prix. Top Time Winners get a special unique skin that is also unique as well. Or some special mini-decal that your ships get to have like the kill marks on your ship for completing the Grand Prix. And if you didn’t die during the Grand Prix event during its leg there should be some accolades.
I mean “Unseen Racer” for players who spent majority time cloaked during the route. [it does actually delay their jump times to do so.]
“Tank Racer”- Player takes tons of damage along route highest total.
“Death Racer” - Player with most kills of other players along the route.
“Wormhole Racer”-Player with highest usage of WH along the route.
“Undaunted Racer”- Player who was killed and continued to do the route. How many times they have been killed during the event, but still completed the route.
“Fleet Racer”- Largest Fleet + Formations to complete the race.
“Chrono Racer”-Player who set the minimum time to complete the timed route.
“Chrono Circuit Racer”-Player who set the minimum time to complete the timed route on the map routing system.
“Mad Racer”-Player who uses the worst possible ship and completes the timed route.
“Omega Racer”- Omega Player who gets the Best Time.
“Alpha Racer”-Alpha Player who gets the Best Time.
“Corp Racer”-largest Corp only Fleet to complete the race.
“Corpse Racer”-complete the race with the largest number of corpses in your ship. [Added Difficulty with Drifters]
“Concord Racer” “Angel Racer” etc. Factional Tags for the ships and getting top time with that factional ship or your faction.
I think the Category system especially if you add in the factor for Alpha Players getting a chance at glory/notority it would be fun. And expand the overall events longevity and appeal to more players. Well besides the aforementioned ORCA race everyone laughs about. (You probably would have to adjust times for a special Freighter/Orca race)
And please do something about the Minmatar Torch of Freedom! No wonder tourism in this part of space never is good.
Having ton of fun so far, apart from the fact that the timed laps keep on giving me east, south, east, south and never north, it feels . Is it randomized?
In the future, I’d suggest certain penalties: for losing a ship or a capsule on the way, for taking a wormhole, etc. Don’t ban wormholes or podjumps or bridging, just make it a tactical decision of “is this worth 2 minutes of penalty for my final time”.
Actually, you might be surprised. We are having an argument in game right now about variation between low align time. Sub 2sec. vs. High Warp Speed AU/s.
We were looking into how one can shave down the time for alignment enough but get good enough high warp. So even supposedly “bad ships” can actually be pretty competitive.
4-2sec alignment is doable the trade is having to get your warp upwards of over 7AU/s to counter any time lost during the align.
The Haulers are looking into using their MWD alignment trick. Which then opens alot of big ships into the Grand Prix.
There is the Leopard with flat 20 AU/s, but there is another ship with nearly 32 AU/s that is competing its a very special ship.
I did it with a Prowler and got to the Finish Line with nearly 4 minutes to spare.
Astero
Pacifier
Macherial
Cynabal
[Almost every Minmatar Ship]
Blockade Runners
Gnosis is interesting because it gets around the problems with align time, Suneiss as well. Praxis can compete.
Garmur is interesting.
Trig ships are absolutely beastly. When rigged for maximum warp.
Some of the special edition ships have unique stats that would allow them to compete very handily, especially with implant considerations.
The Expedition Frigates are not to be counted down and out.
Just experiment. You don’t have to stick to just Shuttle/Frigate/Interceptor/Luxury Yacht.
Even without using the crazy Ascendency Implants you can get some pretty nice speed boosts.
The Warp and Velocity boosters also have made for an interesting game play adjust as well, this has opened up even more options for the competition.
The way warp acceleration works you actually spend not too much time on most warps “coasting”, ie at max warp speed. Warp speed matters but it matters a bit differently than you’d assume, and getting into warp is fast is also a key.
Gotta say I have missed racing, and this event now, while not quite the player-ran Racing League of old, gets somewhat close in feeling.
Just wish there was better guidance to newfrens about where to find crucial info, such as wtf is a smartbomb camp and how to avoid being blapped by one. (Or even that there is info to find. Once you realize there is, it’s basically just ask people, but I fear a lot of aspiring eve nerds don’t realize there is something to ask and quit feeling they were sent by the game to somewhere where they then died at “random”.)
