The reason people say that Eve might not be for you is because you quit. For most long-term Eve players, it is the losses themselves that motivate us.
Ok, maybe not most… there are a lot of long-term highsec PVE grinder type players, too. But those guys tend to ragequit because other players kill them occasionally, just like the Triglavians killed you.
Ok, so why quit over it? If you can see the game has potential for you to enjoy, don’t let a bad decision by CCP (they do weird things sometimes, usually best to roll with the punch and figure how to adapt around it) keep you from enjoying your game.
I would encourage you to continue with the game. Shoot, I’ll give you a ship like you lost and your 11 million isk if you want to keep going with EvE.
If I was already spending my money on this game, I normally would role through a bad feature. But I’m not, I’m new, testing the game out. If I see what I consider a major flaw by a dev team, it makes me want to spend my money elsewhere. That is why I decided to not continue at this point. For me, losing trust in a Dev team from the beginning is a bit of a red flag. It’s also the exact reason why I like to give constructive feedback.
I did not decide to leave because of any loses. Up to that point, the game had already given me 4 ships, and 11 million isk. The loss of items was not even a consideration. If you read my posts, you will see it was 100% only about what I perceive to be a major game design flaw.
I see in another post about a rookie griefing policy. I’m assuming that is why, at the base where I do tutorials, there are no players outside picking off noobs. This is on par with that, a major invasion with enemies so advanced should not interfere with a noob beginner tutorial. When the tutorials are over, and I step foot out of the tutorial zones, there would be no problem.
It’s not a major flaw but a bug likely affecting only few people (because of unlucky coincidence), EvE is not bug free like all software. Tutorials must not blend with invasions. No discussion needed. Just open a “stuck” ticket, and GMs.will sort it out for you. We all have to live with imperfect software.
“I am not upset that I got barbecued by NPC beasts. No, no, I am merely upset that the game has imperfect feature implementation. I only play games that don’t have mistakes in them.”

I guess I’m really just failing to make my point or share my thoughts adequately, because your sarcasm couldn’t be farther from the truth. I have a feeling that there have been enough people quit over the PvP and harsh penalty for death that it is just hard to grasp any other reason a person might give.
I’m old as dirt and I’ve been MMO gaming since before EverQuest. I’m sincerely glad you have a game you enjoy, and I know I’ll eventually find one I can enjoy.
Now go to the system with the 10 of 10 Military introduction quest and clear that area of the invasion. Instead talking to me, go save the day for someone else!!
Nobody disagrees over here. But wait… Every career mission runner loses 2 ships in advanced military career missions, you don’t stand a chance to survive there either. The purpose: Show Newbros that sometimes you just lose, no matter what you do. That’s EVE.
I think part of the idea of these invasion systems is a somewhat strange way to tell ALL players (including Newbros): Be careful, you can be podded everywhere! And this is actually a recent/ongoing major ingame change by CCP: Making Highsec less cozy.
BTW: It is possible to finish that mission in T1 Frigs even in an invaded system. But you need to do some research, watch videos, ask people. And that’s how nearly all of us got into the game.
You didn’t even try.
I would agree with you if CCP devs didn’t also make comments about ‘oh, well, we’ll fix what we broke later’ with regards to having utterly blocked some epic mission arcs (including the SOE arc) because of not curating their final lim system list - because hey, agents stop giving missions when their home systems go final lim.
Breaking the game was not an intended component of the NPE. Claiming players should HTFU instead of raising valid complaints about the NPE - when there are actually broken mechanics - is not the appropriate response.
I would agree with everything you said, if it didn’t happen during a tutorial mission. I had already heard about the suicide missions in the Adv Military line, and was looking forward to them, because just like you said , they were there to teach us about death as part of the tutorial.
And apparently it was impossible to complete, because the devs reset the mission to send people on the tutorial to a non invaded system for the final “boss”.
I’ve left the game already, but I’m glad it got fixed for future players.
[Merlin] Damage Control I Type-D Restrained Nanofiber Structure Type-D Restrained Inertial Stabilizers
5MN Quad LiF Restrained Microwarpdrive Civilian Stasis Webifier Multispectrum Shield Hardener I Small Azeotropic Restrained Shield Extender
Light Neutron Blaster I Light Neutron Blaster I Light Neutron Blaster I Antimatter Charge S x1000
This Merlin costs 737k ISK and is Caldari Newbro proof fitted.
Using this ship, my Alpha char went into Senda, finished about 10 Combat Anomalies, warped to the sun (close to a bunch of Trigs, that was not clever, but they didn’t even yellowbox me within the seconds I was there), docked at the station, undocked again, met a powerfull anti trig player fleet on DScan, and jumped back into Non-Trig-Space.
There is of course a clear warning to enter that system. and even Autopilot tells you there’s something wrong because your desto is blinking red. So first mistake: Read what the game is telling you.
Then you post that on New player chat and wait for help.
Here we go, second mistake: Keep Cloak when sh!t hits the fan.
You are completely invisible and invulnerable for one minute unless you move in space after jumping. The guns cannot lock you as quick as you are in warp in a 4 second aligning Frig, but if you slowboat around, you are breakfast for these turrets.
The mission itself is very easy to complete, it even can be done in an Ibis. All you need is a fast aligning ship and to keep calm.
This would have been less than 10 minutes of explaining.
Or you just can quit and say the game is broken because of incompetent Devs and poor design.
OK, just tried a 3.44 s aligning Merlin - and got pointed and killed. Tough cookies!
My pod survived though, they align even faster.
[ 2020.10.05 17:12:27 ] (question) The CONCORD Security response level in the destination system has been decreased from 0,9 to -0,9 because it is being invaded. You accept this risk by jumping through this gate.
Also, I went to the system, knowing it was “red” because it mentions danger in the mission text. So I was thinking that this might possibly be my first excursion into a slightly more dangerous zone as part of the Military Mission line. I think that was a reasonable assumption.
And also, should I really have to buy a ship and tons of fittings to complete a beginner tutorial? I mean seriously, up to that point, everything I needed for a mission is given during the mission. But like I said, it was not intended, so the devs changed it. The fact that you’re still here kinda defending it, and then being a bit derogatory because of how I choose to trust people with my real $$ is a bit odd to me. But everyone has their own opinions, and I understand yours.
Edit: Also, I did post in the Rookie channel, and they all pretty much said too bad, nothing you can do. Most seemed surprised that the invasion was in a beginner mission area.
