Dear CCP Team and Fellow Capsuleers,
I hope this message finds you well as we celebrate the Yoiul Festival and reflect on another fantastic year in New Eden. While the festivities and gifts are always appreciated, I wanted to take a moment to share some concerns regarding the distribution policy for Yoiul Festival Celebration Crate again. I believe this is an important discussion for the community and the CCP team to consider for future events.
Earlier today, I noticed a message in the Launcher directing players to âGrab your gift from the NES.â The accompanying site cheerfully announced:
âA gift has been left for you in the New Eden Store! Inside your Yoiul Festival Celebration Crate, youâll find a festive firework to help celebrate the season, along with 20 free PLEX. Pop your PLEX into the vault and fire up your fireworks as we ring in the new year together.â
While the message is heartwarming and the gift generous, I was disheartened to learn that some playersâmyself includedâmissed out on this crate again simply because we didnât log in on a specific day during the designated window between December 1st and 23rd. This strict policy feels unnecessarily exclusionary and unfair to many players, especially those who actively support the game year-round.
Why This Policy Feels Unfair
Letâs examine this policy from a playerâs perspective:
Inconsistent Rewards for Paying Players: Many of us maintain active Omega subscriptions and financially support EvE Online through various purchases. Yet, players who missed logging in for just a single day during the event period are effectively penalized. How is it fair to treat paying players differently based solely on login activity during a busy holiday season?
Lack of Transparency: There was no prior announcement or reminder that logging in daily during the event window would be mandatory to claim the gift. This lack of communication leaves a sour taste, as it appears that some players were arbitrarily excluded without clear notice.
Impact on Gameplay: While the crateâs contents might seem minorâfireworks and 20 PLEXâeven small amounts of PLEX contribute to in-game progression. For many, missing out on this opportunity is not just about cosmetics; itâs about being denied a tangible benefit in a game where every resource counts.
The Broader Implications
By tying holiday rewards to strict daily login requirements, CCP risks alienating a segment of its loyal player base. Many players, myself included, have commitments outside of the game, especially during Decemberâs holiday season. This policy unintentionally penalizes players for prioritizing family, work, or other obligations over logging in daily.
From a moral standpoint, this approach divides the community into âhavesâ and âhave-notsâ based on arbitrary criteria, undermining the spirit of fairness and camaraderie that should define holiday events.
Dear CCP,
I deeply respect the hard work your team puts into creating memorable experiences for the EvE Online community. However, policies like this undermine the goodwill you seek to foster during seasonal events. Fairness, transparency, and inclusivity should be the cornerstones of any community-focused initiative.
To my fellow capsuleers, Iâm curious to hear your thoughts. Did you encounter similar frustrations, or do you feel differently about the current distribution policy?
Happy holidays to everyone!
Fly safe,
GAR0
