Feedback on Yoiul Festival Celebration Crate Distribution

Dear CCP Team and Fellow Capsuleers,

I hope this message finds you well as we celebrate the Yoiul Festival and reflect on another fantastic year in New Eden. While the festivities and gifts are always appreciated, I wanted to take a moment to share some concerns regarding the distribution policy for Yoiul Festival Celebration Crate again. I believe this is an important discussion for the community and the CCP team to consider for future events.

Earlier today, I noticed a message in the Launcher directing players to “Grab your gift from the NES.” The accompanying site cheerfully announced:

“A gift has been left for you in the New Eden Store! Inside your Yoiul Festival Celebration Crate, you’ll find a festive firework to help celebrate the season, along with 20 free PLEX. Pop your PLEX into the vault and fire up your fireworks as we ring in the new year together.”

While the message is heartwarming and the gift generous, I was disheartened to learn that some players—myself included—missed out on this crate again simply because we didn’t log in on a specific day during the designated window between December 1st and 23rd. This strict policy feels unnecessarily exclusionary and unfair to many players, especially those who actively support the game year-round.

Why This Policy Feels Unfair

Let’s examine this policy from a player’s perspective:

Inconsistent Rewards for Paying Players: Many of us maintain active Omega subscriptions and financially support EvE Online through various purchases. Yet, players who missed logging in for just a single day during the event period are effectively penalized. How is it fair to treat paying players differently based solely on login activity during a busy holiday season?

Lack of Transparency: There was no prior announcement or reminder that logging in daily during the event window would be mandatory to claim the gift. This lack of communication leaves a sour taste, as it appears that some players were arbitrarily excluded without clear notice.

Impact on Gameplay: While the crate’s contents might seem minor—fireworks and 20 PLEX—even small amounts of PLEX contribute to in-game progression. For many, missing out on this opportunity is not just about cosmetics; it’s about being denied a tangible benefit in a game where every resource counts.

The Broader Implications

By tying holiday rewards to strict daily login requirements, CCP risks alienating a segment of its loyal player base. Many players, myself included, have commitments outside of the game, especially during December’s holiday season. This policy unintentionally penalizes players for prioritizing family, work, or other obligations over logging in daily.

From a moral standpoint, this approach divides the community into “haves” and “have-nots” based on arbitrary criteria, undermining the spirit of fairness and camaraderie that should define holiday events.

Dear CCP,
I deeply respect the hard work your team puts into creating memorable experiences for the EvE Online community. However, policies like this undermine the goodwill you seek to foster during seasonal events. Fairness, transparency, and inclusivity should be the cornerstones of any community-focused initiative.

To my fellow capsuleers, I’m curious to hear your thoughts. Did you encounter similar frustrations, or do you feel differently about the current distribution policy?

Happy holidays to everyone!

Fly safe,
GAR0

I am glad you mentioned this as I checked and I have it, I would not have noticed otherwise.

Don’t feel too bad. Many of us that played during that time aren’t getting it either.

I’ve only checked 7 of my 29 Omegas so far today. All accts between 10 and 17 years old. All regularly logged in in the last year.

And nothing.

EDIT: Had a look at all of them and I’m at 5 gifts in 29 accts. My five newest. What’s that all about?

Hi, @GARR0

I appreciate your post and do agree with you based on what actions an online business should take towards its community but I think things have changed and we should consider ourselves lucky that more isn’t asked of us as players.

Nothing on any of my accounts and I am online in game every day.

First, it’s entirely possible this is just a screwup of some sort and not ‘policy’, although I seem to recall them doing similar in previous years. So if it’s a screwup, we just have to wait for a fix. Or not, since CCP isn’t always keen on fixing their gaffes. But if it’s policy, well…

Unfortunately “alienating the player base” is effectively part of CCPs’ MO - it’s been that way forever. CCP management seems to thrive on pushing the idea that EVE is something its’ players should be devoted to, never miss, and consider an essential part of their daily routine. Also that EVE is some type of ‘exclusive, high-end’ service that will appeal to people with deeper pockets.

Multiple events and issues over the years have demonstrated this.

Many people in the gaming community (devs and players alike) feel that events and holidays are times to promote goodwill, get players doing fun things together, and give the player base a ‘feelgood’ reason to stick with the game for another year. This applies both to giveaways and to the way event mechanics work.

Some players (and CCP) seem to feel that any giveaways are a result of “open generosity” on CCP’s part, and therefore complaints or criticisms are unwarranted. From a business point of view though, giveaways are mostly just psych ploys to keep your players invested in the game, to keep them from becoming too invested in other games that do it better, and to cheaply generate some goodwill for their service.

Exclusionary, overly specific, cash-targeted and just plain buggy ‘giveaways’ tend to generate an abundance of bad feelings, completely negating the goal in the first place.

CCP would do well to remember that a game slowly fading into irrelevance and propped up mainly by the enthusiasm of a shrinking player base can use all the goodwill it can get.

I think they screwed it up.

My reasoning is simple: Scout alts I use to ensure a system ahead is clear before taking my main through a gate all got the gift.

My main, who would obviously be logged in if my alts were logged in, did not get it.

edit: Pretty simple solution, just log in all the accounts and contract the plex to the main. Done. Still dopey as hell though. Only two of my alts did not get it. Only Alpha accounts seemed to get it. Starting to wonder if someone’s maybe mistyped a logical operator in a line of code somewhere. Got it the wrong way around. An errant exclamation mark can do terrible damage :stuck_out_tongue:

Exactly. "Log in between x and y and your name will be etched forever on the monument. "

Pretty sure the mural was the same, log in between x and y. So this doesnt surprise me that its logged in between x and y

Yeah, it’s clearly buggged. My omega accounts that are logged in nearly everyday for at least 1hr didn’t get anything, found a few alphas that received it.

All of my omega accounts are old enough and active enough to receive this gift, but none of them got it, it seems CCP fumbled with their Quality Control yet again.

Just checked both accounts, 1 omega, 1 alpha and nothing here.

Yep.
Three accounts, 1 Omega and 2 Alpha. Logged in most (if not all) days last December. Log in just about every day this year, even if to just get daily goals, so easily achieved the three hours gameplay necessary.

Nothing on all three accounts.

CCP will never delete the pos code.
All else follows.
All the trolling CCP is engaging in, makes me think they don’t really care about the game anymore…

Same problem.
I have three unused alpha accounts, and I don’t even remember why I created them.
All three have gifts.
3 main accounts - 2 omega and 1 alpha, no gifts

A space buddy had it on 10 of his 13 active accounts. I’m at 0 of 19 on active accounts seeing it in the NES. Overall I’m sure it’s a bug and we’ll get the PLEX at some point…I’d feel better if there was something official out about it but it’s the holiday season so let’s give them some time

The “official” response is now a 404 page where the link in the launcher goes.

Now, I’m unsure if they deleted it because of the situation, or because the article specified the dates as being between 2022 and 2023, which it did when I read it.

edit: Just got the mailshot

edit of edit: Gift is now live on my main.

“Purchase Failed” - Some intern is having a really bad day

Leave Britney the intern alone! I tried restarting the launcher once I saw your message & there was a brief ‘update’ downloaded and applied. The crate is now on one toon but not the others.

“Progress!”

EDIT: I closed the NES window without applying the crate…I wanted to wait to claim them all at once. I reopened the NES window and the crate is now missing.

Someone get the intern some coffee & a slice of pie
