Or another idea. Keep autopilot, but have it warp to zero. It won’t save everyone but it will make the gankers have to work for their kills.
The thing is, autopilot should be worse than piloting manually.
Maybe it is possible to let autopilot warp to 0, but then wait a full 60 seconds after each gate jump.
That just encourages these kinds of crybaby posts. I don’t pvp. I live in null sec. Auto-pilot makes it easier for gankers to do their jobs b/c lots of pilots are under the impression that high sec is “safe”. Honestly, null sec is safer than high sec. Get rid of auto pilot as that will force freighter pilots to pay more attention to what they’re doing. Besides, there’s already a button that will warp you to zero and jump you upon landing and leaving warp.
They bring a smartbomber, just for the tears.
Ahh keep the lazy button but have it work as good as the players who actually put in the effort?
lol, no…
So many non freighter pilots telling freighter pilots how to fly a freighter.
Freighters are just fine as is for hauling in high sec. In fact I would say hauling is far too easy. As a freighter pilot I routinely haul 10, 20, 50, 100 billion loads, sometimes through the major pipes and are never bothered. I also run a single account when I haul, no webber, scout, logi or bumper to back me up. I have been doing this for over 5 years without being ganked once.
Most freighter pilots are lazy and somewhat naive or stupid. They are the ones that are ganked and they deserve to be ganked.
Some of my most fun times in this game have been when I am hunted by CODE. However they are not the best or the brightest either, but they do provide a good laugh and some additional entertainment.
100% wrong! Jump freighters are the endgame ship and require a lot of extra cost and skills.
A new account can be an effective freighter pilot in a matter of weeks. Not getting into this dumb argument about freighters being end game ships - but they are not end game ships. Not when a new pilot can be effective in one within several weeks of starting.
No, you should really ■■■■ off.
You’re an idiot.
There’s just the small matter of the skill books and freighter hull…
This is why you believe ganking is “so easy”. You can not have a proper freighter pilot with all the extra skills required and being an effective freighter pilot requires more skills than just sitting in a freighter.
Therefore, you should be ganked mercilessly until you learn from your mistakes.
Need to max all the core skills, then all the tanking skills, anything that’ll increase align/warp time. Not gonna happen in a few weeks unless you’re buying injectors.
Oh I have all the relevant skills maxed.
An extra 15-20% hp and navigation skills beyond the free starting skills isn’t going to make any difference in the vast majority of ganks.

“Being better and having more resists, hp and being faster at aligning will not help matters”.
Wut?
you just need to be using existing solutions instead of hoping to be able to win solo against a fleet of players with a weak tank and high value cargo.
Win solo against a fleet? You make it sound as if a freighter is expecting to defeat the fleet. The freighter doesn’t defeat anyone. You either reach your destination, or you are ganked before you do.
There is an imbalance in the cost and ease of suicide ganking billion isk ships. While an Orca can easily tank up to 500k+ HP without making much sacrifice - a freighter, which costs a lot more than an orca, must make huge sacrifices in order to achieve non paper thin HP. Not only can you not expand your cargo size, but you have to lose cargo size, in order to fit bulkheads.
Having a cargo size of only around 300k might be fine for some hauls. But if you’re hauling goods that weigh a lot, it’s a huge sacrifice to make. A cargo boosted freighter can haul over 1 millon M3 at a time. A bulkhead freighter can only haul around 300k, a near 70% reduction.
Tell me, what does the Orca sacrifice to achieve 500k+ HP? Near enough nothing. A freighter sacrifices 70% of its potential capacity just to get a tank that will usually (but not always) stop you from becoming a target.
It’s almost as if there’s a balance between the two: the Orca has easier tank but less cargo space, the freighter is more vulnerable but also hauls more.
500k+ HP without making much sacrifice
Except sacrificing the ability to mine and be anything other than a tank that has no other function than just taking a beating.
a freighter, which costs a lot more than an orca
You’re telling me you can fit an Orca for a total cost of less than putting 3 Bulkhead 2s on a Freighter? Really?
But if you’re hauling goods that weigh a lot
…then you’re doing it wrong.
A freighter sacrifices 70% of its potential capacity
“not using the potential upgrades that cost you most of your defence” is not the same as “sacrificing” anything.

It’s not just about the required skills. A freighter’s role is immense cargo capacity, a newbie isn’t going to fly one even if they theoretically had the skills because the scale of their cargo runs isn’t sufficient to require one yet. You don’t get into freighters until you are doing large-scale industry stuff, which makes them an endgame tool.
It’s almost as if there’s a balance between the two: the Orca has easier tank but less cargo space, the freighter is more vulnerable but also hauls more.
This isn’t a comparison to make. The freighter only hauls. The Orca is a mining fleet command ship. It can mine, give significant fleet boosts, and do significant dps, in addition to being able to haul.
