Regardless of the percentage of gankers in EVE, one has to account for the real eventuality of getting ganked and since the gank is a complete surprise for the ganked, he has to think and behave as if there’s a ganker in every system and not rely on statistics or luck. I mean, this is a PvP game after all.

Oh yea. Complete surprise. I mean you only got a system wide radar that updates on whoever is in system with you. You can add said gankers to standings for ease of warning. And then you could just warp off to a safe as you should be aligned and mining amirite?

I believe that, sure. But for a noob like me, it’ll be a surprise until I learn what the gankers go for, when and where…
I got ganked a few days ago on my way to another empire space. Did I think I’d get ganked? It was at the back of my mind. Could I have prevented it? Sure, if I had checked Look Before You Jump website I would’ve seen that a gate was camped. But I was in a hurry and in a disposable ship so went on with my travel as if nothing happened. So, live and learn as my grandmother liked to say.

F10 is your friend. If you see more than 2-3 ships lost in a system, maybe think about why?

You’re not, you’re an alt. No actual new player starts posting about scarcity effects a week after char creation. Also, assuming we stick to the “this is my character” thing, you didn’t get ganked: you lost an ibis in low sec which isn’t ganking.
