A bunch of guys just anchored a fortizar but didnt have any fireworks. what if guns could be shot at nothing to create some semblance of fireworks for occasions like that?

Sounds like bad preparation that they didn’t bring any fireworks.
Next time maybe do bring some fireworks?
Or just shoot at one of the ships for celebratory explosions. You could even choose to shoot from a range far out of optimal so you don’t get an explosion.
not sure if it’s still the case, but when anchoring a Keepstar it used to be customary to sacrifice a carrier to the doomsday when it onlines.

Or take one of the other suggestions we have posted in case you insist in having a ‘gun salvo’: shoot a salvo at another ship, either in or out of range depending on if you want celebratory explosions or not.
