A few days ago I sat on my perch and watched a fleet of catalysts chew through the hull of a freighter it was another victory for Safety as usual but I couldn’t help but feel a heavy sadness in my heart.
I couldn’t turn my Safety to Red and participate, my friends were celebrating and I was so very happy to cheer for them but I couldn’t participate and join in the revelry.
I felt bad, in my feels but I needed to smile and endure so my friends wouldn’t notice my silent discomfort and suffering because I didn’t want to be a burden and take the excitement off the burning hull as they podded off together and I was left within the wreckage of my aching heart.
These are my salty tldr tears and my grief is genuine it’s real it’s there I couldn’t even get a participation trophy.
The carebears got their system of impunity, but what about the rest of us that yearn to be naughty in space?
Maybe it’s time to relook at highsec alphas and our participation in piracy, my friends they smile and give me words of encouragement but…I see how it’s worded in the eve mails I’ve become a spectator in my own sandbox.
We know the truth as an alpha pirate and can’t pull my weight and I’ve become the thing I always dreaded a sympathy hand out.
I’ve been bullied because even as an alpha I cannot multibox but us alphas are constantly blamed for this omega privilege. They used this false narrative to strip me of the only thing that matters In highsec, flipping my safety off and chewing through things with pulse lasers and blasters.
Highsec mechanics have evolved, but the gatekeeping hasn’t.
Calling Alphas “tourists” ignores the fact that highsec is no longer the Wild West. CCP has heavily tightened highsec security with aggressive outlaw hunting.
Locking the safety switch behind a paywall doesn’t protect the economy; it just artificially restricts the sandbox. Turning safety to red doesn’t give Alphas a free pass—it guarantees an immediate visit from concord, a dead ship, and a tanked security status. If the zone is already insulated enough to handle criminal choices, single-account Alphas should be allowed to make those choices and face the consequences like anyone else.
Imagine having an entire dedicated safe space added to the most ruthless MMO in history, and still crying that 0.5 security systems are too scary.
I don’t think tourists’ boats are supposed to be sunk on sight but that’s just me… and the travel agency
I’ll be visiting the EVE Gate and a couple of other New Eden landmarks in the next week. Vacations aren’t what they used to be I guess
this goes back to the TOS/EULA on recycling alts to get rid of the negative sec status.. alphas can be recycled quickly to undo that rule so i think this was FC’s way of enforcing that rule.. make it so in hisec they can’t lose sec status by ganking.
so it seems this was removed around 2020, and someone clarified with a GM that it was permitted to recycle alts as long as they weren’t rookie griefing..
so the removing red safety from hisec for alphas basically is the new version of that rule, so people can’t recycle alphas to constantly gank/harass/grief players.
I do understand that explanation and accept it whole heartedly, but I also feel and think that now that the eves highsec environment is changing to help rookie pilots with complete safe zones to get adjusted to space life we should look into ganking as a whole and what’s been implemented in the past. The developers work hard to create a fun environment and I respect the type of people that have poured years of there life into design coding gameplay etc. But the consistent theme has been Gankers adapt, then the goal post is moved they adapt and the post is moved again and it does make a portion the community feel a particular way.
I just want my little pleeb voice to be heard even with the satire so that you know, maybe there might be better ways too implement things that weren’t available in the past. Something off the top of my head would be like preventing an alpha clone recycle if it has negative five security status little things, small touches that prevent exploitation now you have to pay the 200million in clone tags for the recycle.
Alphas get heat for a lot of things like multi-boxing which is an omega exclusive thing, I think that a few bad apples exploiting the rules shouldn’t be barring honest new players from enjoying playing space pirate.
It’s an opinion my opinion and only that, but it would be nice if we got updates on the other side too because they add the danger and controversy to the game.
Are you sure this won’t backfire against you guys. Teaching them to fight back? Many newbies want to feel that they are the heroes. “Ganking is the counter to Ganking” would be a great slogan for them. “Protecting your PVE main with your alpha ganking alts” .
Anti Ganking has never been effective from the start, but maybe Counter/Reverse Ganking will.
They’ll quickly find that ganking miners is more fun. Ganking gankers is not only unprofitable, it’s also not particularly fun. Unlike miners, gankers are emotionally well-adjusted and undock expecting to lose their ships in the first place, so there’s zero rage when you shoot them.
