Help me understand and modify the Neocom

I’m trying to understand why I cannot customize the Neocom in a way that is helpful to me. Please refer to screenshots below.

Would anyone explain what I’ve misunderstood with this? Maybe there’s a settings menu I’ve missed.

I do not have this?

The chat is only displayed while you minimize chat. So don’t minimize chat. It is not a permanent icon. Similar to cargohold and others.

Journal was removed from being directly accessible a few years ago. So it is only present until you close it and use chat commands to open it again, which is what i suppose you do. So it is not considered a permanent window and can’t be grouped. I have no problems to group you other three icons.

This does answer my question, though it’s a little disappointing. I appreciate the explanation, regardless.

You probably already know this but I’m just gonna list everything anyway…

The ‘E’ icon above the character portrait is the Eve menu containing all available Neocom icons arranged into various submenus… All of those icon services can be activated from the EVE menu at any time, regardless if they’re listed in the Neocom Bar as a shortcut… Those Eve menu icons can also be added to the Neocom Bar by dragging them to an empty area within the Neocom Bar..

To create a group folder in the Neocom Bar to contain various Eve menu icons, R-click an empty area in the Neocom Bar and select ‘Create Group’… Icons in the Eve menu and in the Neocom Bar can be added to the group folder by dragging them into it…

I think this might be the answer to your issue… In order to move / rearrange icons already showing in the Neocom Bar or to add them to a group folder, the Neocom Bar needs to be unlocked… Can R-click an empty area in the Neocom Bar to lock / unlock it…

I’m pretty sure even if the Neocom Bar is locked, you can still R-click on an icon and remove it from the Neocom Bar… Anyway, it’s always a good idea to make sure the Neocom Bar is locked to keep your settings from being changed…

I think that pretty much covers the main points…

About the Journal, it was basically replaced by the Opportunities icon which lists active Agent missions as well as various other activities… Loyalty Points were moved to the Wallet…

Anyway, I hope the issues you’re having are quickly resolved…

A sound explanation in case anyone searches for related issues, so cheers for that.

This sort of makes tab groups pointless for me, since when I put the utilities in the tab group, then open one, the utility “appears” as part of the group, plus it gets its own icon on the Neocom, and the window is open in the gameplay window. That’s three indicators that you have the utility open, which seems redundant to me. I just want a clean, minimal Neocom. In this case I ditched using tab groups altogether.

Minimized chats having separate tabs from the chat icon (which also shows open chats) doesn’t make sense to me either, but for now I’ve resorted to leaving them as a pinned taskbar (collapsed) behind the utilities.

At least this thread has been instructive, hopefully it helps someone else someday.

I actually find the neocom perfect and elegant in its current state and hope they don’t ruin it again with the planned rework of introducing colors and new icons and such stuff.

First thing I do is relocate the chat icon to the very bottom of the bar. It will become the first icon hidden when the bar runs out of room. You must unlock your Neocom bar to drag the icons.

The chat icon is always there, when you minimize it is still there. When minimized it shows an extra icon of the active chat tab.

Any window with an X “close icon” on it will not appear on the Neocom when closed. Chat, Station Services, Selected Item, Drones, and Overview have no X and cannot be closed. When minimized they are sent to the Neocom.

Making groups as you can see here. Chat and Inventory were immune to me dragging them and dropping them to my test icon.

You can autohide the Neocom or just ignore it as I do.

As a side note, I clone all my settings across accounts and characters. But that is another thread
