The way these things are coded if you are negative to the Amarr Empire then their mining corps will freak out if you enter a belt where they are OR they try to enter a belt where you are.
The miners will run away and the repsonse fleet comes in.
Actually, the Orca and Rorqual always have been able to field mining drones, it’s just that they were given bonuses. And then there is the travesty of the Rorqual’s excavator drones.
Excavators should have been made to function like carrier fighters, in essence mining fighters. Had CCP done that we wouldn’t be where we are today.
My standing towards Amarr Emipre is of course terrible, I’m true Minmatar. But there were no ships when I landed on belt with my Orca. It happen me about week ago when I was scouting belts with my destroyer. There was mining NPC ops in progress and they attacked me. But that time I came on belt and they were present there. This time it was different. I landed mined for about 20 - 30 minutes and than NPC arrived and start shooting me. CCP still did not pick up my ticket.
If looking away for 30 seconds to answer my wife’s questions about dinner is AFK, then I am guilty. But even going to the bathroom, I dock up.
My Orca cost too much to be AFK from, like several other ships I own that I never undock without 2 hands on the keyboard - and sometimes a practice run in a frigate first.
Yes, some days I mine in an Orca, because the rest of my mates are not on Eve, so it is my best choice as a very small (tiny even) industrialist.
AFK orcas mine less than an alpha toon in a venture does. If you think it’s a problem you should do it yourself, let it run for 5 hours then look at your 15-20 mil in ore and wonder why anyone would bother.
This can be a good direction since imo what should be nerved is the AFK part of mining, not the yield part of mining. Same with AFK ratting, just make drone auto aggression apply in PvP only, so the ratters at least have to manually target and attack the PvE rats.
Hmm, Interesting topic. A: People cry because orcas and rorqs had to leave POS to boost now B: CCP made it worth the risk C: People cried because AFK Miners in Skiffs/Macks/Retrivers/Procs D: Now crying over the afk orca miners… Cracks me up, How about yall either just play the game and deal with it the way it is instead of being a bunch of cry babies over the same issue that has been on going for years.
AFK Orcas are easy to deal with, but when I go to bump them into the next dimension in my Mach, they come to the forum whining for changes to bumping so their AFK mining can’t be interrupted…
Decrease the amount of global ore massively …
… to increase the odds of people fighting over what’s left.
The solution is actually pretty obvious once you realize that …
… the people who are currently mining ore …
… aren’t the people who should be mining ore.
The problem is nothing is stopping you from doing the same to someone that isn’t afk, which is kind of a dick move and has no real way to mitigate it. Higgs anchors, which were originally added to help address the matter, are pretty much useless (except to wormholers).
Altering the Orca’s mining yield is no solution. People afk mined in badgers with a single mining laser for years. AFK mining isn’t the issue here, at all. Nerf the drone boost and they’ll still be there, just earning less.
The issue here is how much it rubs a couple of sections of the player base the wrong way that they can’t easily gank these players or that they’re playing the game the wrong way. Don’t underestimate the community’s ability to judge how everyone else should play the game.
AFK Orcas are a drop in the ocean. Anyone who’s invested enough to make an impact solo is running a solo fleet with boosts and hauling a couple orders of magnitude more ore. Any single character solo miner who wants a decent yield is running a Mack for its ore hold.
AFK Orcas just don’t matter. This is about ganker rage boner and not much else. Dressing it up as balance, or suggesting it matters one iota to the game economy, is intellectually dishonest. Hell the market in Orcas is good for the economy and half will never mine enough Veldspar to cover the investment anyway.
