High sec Pirates

By responding to make it clear to everyone that the person in question is a fringe nutcase with unreasonable opinions and zero credibility.

Now, I would definitely favor ignoring it if CCP would care enough to clean up the garbage. If accusing CCP of botting got your post deleted and your account banned I’d say sure, flag it and let the discussion move on. But the unfortunate reality is that as long as you don’t use any bad words you can post whatever nonsense you like. And that leaves it up to the players to make it clear that nonsense is just that.

That way you destroy the good discussion. Cases in point: Anderson, Salvos, DMC, Balos/Darlo, all the others, and all the threads which got derailed and closed thanks to them.

When you stop legitimizing them, they have no way of anchoring themselves in a thread, thus the thread can keep moving on uninterrupted. A positive side effect of this is that the person either leaves by themselves, or eventually snaps and misbehaves in a way that gets him banned. None of these two will be achieved by legitimizing him through responding. The more you respond, the more people will notice him, the more people will respond to him, the more he feels legitimized and the more he keeps going. That’s how it works.

By the way, he does keep intentionally evading the forum word filter all the time. The rules don’t allow for that, but I wouldn’t call it a conspiracy that CCP doesn’t ban him for it, which would be his “logical” way of thinking. I’d say that the decent people around here simply aren’t considering it worth using it against him, which is quite the advantage for him, because his limited amount of options forces him to use whatever measure he can and that’s usually what he does. Flagging people for no sane reason whatsoever.

This will change when CCP Aurora implements that system she talked about once, which he naturally opposed. It was a trust based system, if i recall correctly, and obviously he can’t deal with that, because trust and narcissism don’t go together.

To everyone else reading this, who has no idea what’s going on:

I apologize. You have my sympathy. Rest assured that highsec pirates are the norm and part of what’s content in this game, just like every other player. Don’t worry about what some nutjobs on the forums say, because they don’t matter in the slightest. I’m actually pretty damn sure you’re well aware of that, because only a moron would not be aware of what EVE ONLINE is actually about. That, of course, doesn’t mean that there’s not plenty of morons around.

Please enjoy the game and, maybe, try being a pirate too sometimes. It’s fun!

Have you seen the incessant spam they can post, even when nobody is responding to them?

Yes. That’s a sign of their struggle. It boils up and eventually explodes into a mistake they shouldn’t have made.

When I’ve realized the similiarities between all these different people behaving in the pretty much same way, it became relatively easy figuring out the patterns which make them tick how they tick. You can only win by not playing their game, because as long as you respond to them, you ARE playing their game. That’s also why these people are easily mistaken for trolls, yet they aren’t trolls.

They’re simply using whatever tactic they can, because that’s literally all they have. They would never come for you in the game, because they can’t fight for themselves. When someone’s only weapons are his words, which clearly is the case for him and literally all the other carebears out there, then the easiest way of defeating them is by not responding.***

UNLESS, of course, they all gather up and speak in one voice, which usually isn’t something that’s happening and they’re a tiny minority anyway. Luckily for us CCP, in case such a thing happens, learned not to listen to them. In fact one might say CCP is currently trying really hard to get rid of them.

*** An alternative approach is making fun of them and keeping it that way. In the history of humanity ridicouling and shaming people has always worked, which is also a reason why fat shaming is a big nono nowadays in the US.
