High skill point players are not progressing out of highsec

Yah when I put hard work and effort to craft a great PVP fit only to die in less than 1min of PVP due to a gate camp it really kills my spirit. :person_shrugging:

Why should they. You can hardly count to ten (attention: rhetoric hyperbole) before you get tackled by some anonymous Cyno-Alt, bridging some BlackOps- or Titangang on top of you.

Hotdropping is pure poison for this game and hopefully CCP will realize that at some point.

Hotdropping is fun endgame content for everybody.

If jumping with 12 BlackOps on a Vexor your Arazu got tackle on, after sitting 45min under tether is endgame, uhh thank god I am not at that level yet.

The Prophet salutes you sir.

He has not seen under bridge dwelling skills like yours in several years.

So what you are saying essentially is that since the entire level 1-20 starting newb zone quest boar mobs are camped by level 60 players in purple drops who are too scared to venture into a PvP zone, that I, as a new player have to go farm mobs in a level 30 zone even though I am level 5…
And then the level 60 players wearing purple drops still in the starter zones, post a picture of a cliff, and that cliff explains how the highsec players with 5 years of skill point training and piloting a 1 billion ISK ship into a level 1 data site in 0.7 space are “hardcore” and that I need to become more hardcore and harden up?

I do have so much to learn in this game, I am glad that yall are here to help explain everything to me!

No. Drop all your WoW preconceptions.

I do enjoy the light troll bait though, thanks and you got me.

All of New Eden is a Level 100 elite veteran combat zone, right from leaving your starter system.

EvE does have a progression system though, the farther into lowsec and null you go, the tougher the missions (quests) the harder the enemies, the higher your level (skill point total) needs to be, the better your loot needs to be. Same with mining, the lower the security, the more specialized mining gear you need, the higher level (skill points) the stronger the belt rats, the tougher you tank needs to be, the better your drones and drone skills. Regardless of PvP, from the PvE aspect alone.
Also with data/relic sights, even with wormholes. So if that’s not a progression system, I don’t know what it is. I mean yeah sure you could fly a billion dollar ship to knock out level 1’s all day, but if such a large amount of players are doing that, it might garner attention instead of just “let players play how they want to”.
Just because players refuse to engage in that content doesn’t mean it isn’t more challenging and more demanding of a players time to progress and level and gear and knowledge of game mechanics.

The progression system is important I would argue, and if a large amount of players are avoiding it, its a problem to be addressed.

Yes, thats bound to the

  • skillpoint progression, aka the tools you can use
  • wealth progression, aka what you can affort to field and to lose
  • softskill progression, aka the knowledge of how to use which tools for which job
  • social progression, aka making relations, good or bad, to use for your advantage

It has nothing to do with the location you are in. All the PvE content are opportunities you can use to make some easy profits, but there is absolutely no path you have to follow to reach any kind of end goal. If you like you can jump into WHs or Pochven on day one and absolutely survive there.

I ran a level one Nightelf from Menathil harbor to Iron forge…it doesn’t mean that I want to make it a habit, and if I saw a level 60 player doing it continually over and over, and they had full auction house purples on, I am gonna ask “Are you ok bro?” I mean, like is your game broken or something? I am just as worried and concerned for the players engaging in the content this way as I am anything else.

I mean, are these players ok? I thought it was maybe like a big trolling campaign or something going on which I can understand something like that. I read about the mining permit sales, and the wars against miners in highsec and stuff, so I thought maybe they are doing a Data/Relic event? Like they used to come into highsec and kill all the mining barges in game events, so like that I can understand.

Can Can Data Slaughter or something you know?
But…they are just running it as content???

Why on earth would you spend real world money on something in a computer game that you can lose to someone better than you?

I don’t get the WoW references, as I don’t play that game. But whatever, maybe begin caring for your own game and own goals and progress and not so much about what other players do with the time they have to play the game?

And if you really want to help other players, go found a corp that offers such help, education, support. Trying to pull over WoW references to EVE in terms of “starting zones” and “difficulty progression” will not work, since both games have a completely differenty approach on design.

No discussion is truly complete until Aiko has her say, long may her quest endure!

I really miss seeing you guys around, are you OK?

It is, on this forums at least. But also in game, and CCP is doing it too. Its all a bait.

And you are a bait too.

I like highsec better than null or wormhole space. Thats really all there is to it

Imagine playing a game where you pay real money to play and you can you loose everything.

Oh wait, its called gambling.

EvE is like gambling. It has some really steep consequences.

But the reward does match the risk.

You’re right, risk and reward goes up when the security rating of system goes down.

This doesn’t mean it’s a progression system, it’s just a risk-reward balance. And players can pick the risk-reward balance they’re most comfortable with.

Some players can go to the deepest end of null sec or wormhole space from day one and make money there, if they’re willing to put in effort and don’t mind paying a lot of attention while playing.

Other payers, for example those who aren’t comfortable with looking on their directional scanner all day for possible hostile signs because they are already paying attention to other signs of trouble from their young children running around at home, can choose to stay in high security space most of their time. It pays less, but it also means they can leave their ship AFK at any moment’s notice and have a reasonable chance to find it in one piece when they get back.

EVE’s zones are not a progression system, they’re a range of different areas with different difficulties and different PvP rules, and at any time in the game you can pick any zone to play in.

It must be the warm welcoming gate committee they get on arriving in lowsec
