How Can I BEST Help New Eve Online Players? :parrotdad:

I don’t understand what you mean. I want to help (I think) no matter what my docking status is.

Instead of giving frigs away.
Buy CCP and fix the reasons people don’t stay in.

(who knows, maybe OP has money to do it)

I’d start with something “easy”. Like… extensive tutorial system?
As for newbs, make a newbie corp find, kidnap and train them.
Do ops…fleet mission standing farm, exploration, abyss, mining, pvp,… whatever - just put people together then glue them.

DON’T DO THIS

My god it’s like every person who knows how to play has forgotten what it’s like to be a newbro

Hang out with them and be available for any questions, but ffs we need to stop telling players how to play. I’m so sick of hearing vets telling new players “no you’re doing this wrong, you want this because <incomprehensible jargon>”

If they wanna run a L2 combat anomaly with an exploration frigate, LET THEM. Go with them in a salvager and literally pick up the pieces, and when they respawn at the station, trade the scraps back to the newbie “to commemorate your first explosion”. If they try to do it again, maybe point out that it might be a bit strong for them, and perhaps the should try another. When they ask “how can I tell how strong the NPCs are”, point out the name of the site (don’t just slap 'em with an EvE Wiki article). This game is a social sandbox, yet some people seem to want to make it a full time job with industry standards lol

Nothing makes me wanna quit more than listening to “GankzLord666” give me an incomprehensible lecture on advanced mathematics when my question was “tracking speed: low number good or high number good?”

No, they want help.

What they don’t want, is to be told “you shouldn’t fly that” or “that fit sucks, try this” or “that’s no way to make ISK”

They want someone to tell them why they fit something to a ship, it disappeared and they can’t see it (simulate mode is on)

They want someone to clue them into little tips and tricks, like “right click in space to easily find asteroid belts” and “you can remove unwanted things from your overview, just right click”

They don’t want to be lectured. They want someone to help them troubleshoot their own issue, because most of the issues new bros have are interface related

Anyone who’s played any video game ever can suss out what “DPS” and “EHP” mean, but (for example) no one in their right mind would ever be able to guess that you have to click on the hamburger menu in the top left corner of the overview in order to access all the overview settings, because it doesn’t look anything like a clickable button.

I’d like to point out that one guy says “have fun with the newbros and play with them” …
… and the schizophrenic up there (heh) goes on on a rant about something completely unrelated.

Gotta say, it’s always better to play with them …
… than just to talk with them.

You are correct on this.

Show new players to possibilities in EVE.

Part of the fun in the beginning was the ‘learning’ and experimentation.

Mr J… good response.

Can I have your stuff?

Teach them how to infiltrate a corp, betray the corp and steal the corp hangar. It’s literally the best thing a new player can do for isk.

Best way, get a filament thingy and warp them into null randomly and throw a bunch of ISK at them to find their way out and recoup their loss and build back better with a great reset

That should put some backbone into them fast, toughen them up and saves the whining later

Well I am a pretty new player and thought I could shed some insight. A major thing that I disliked right after career agents was having no idea what to do. I knew there was some sort of combat things and exploration from the tutorial but I like I assume many others had no idea how to actually like do those things.

I would suggest showing newer players the possibilities, take them on a wormhole run then show them how to rat. Then gank someone in lowsec or something similar to get them having a feel of the game and some basic things to do. Don’t just take them there, show them how exactly to get there. Make them find a relic site and warp to them. Teach them how to find combat anomalies or how to locate mining belts. In addition, another thing I would like to add was when I was very new was that the only thing I focused was on isks. I just started mining and mining to try and get enough to buy a new ship every time it was destroyed. I would suggest giving them a couple of ships and enough isks to last a while so that instead of them worrying on how they can get their next 1m isk, they try new things like finding a relic site or something similar to that.

In addition to that, I would highly suggest some cheap ships. Some people would tell you and have in the earlier responses to make them do it themselves. While this may be better in the long run, this could confuse them and annoy them. For example, they have no idea what ships are for, what fits are good and so forth. Just having a fitted ship for each aspect (for example a cheap fitted magnate for explo, a cheap punisher for pve ratting or low level pvp and a venture would be a good starter bundle) helped me magnitudes. I can now fit ships by myself and am still only 7 days old. Also, teach them how to do things instead of just telling them what to do. It gets very annoying when someone was just like find a combat site and shoot rats when I had no idea what the agency was. Guide them but do not force them to do anything they dont like.

Also, make sure they have fun. Do exciting things, a trip to Jita is amazing for that. The adrenaline from seeing people ganked next to you speaks for itself.

You would be surprised, but things are a lot better now.

The NPE (New Player Experience) is an ongoing discussion for longer than I’ve been in the forums.

When I started this game, the NPE was a kick in the ass with a frozen boot.

Oh… and some sort of perpetual motion machine. Those were strange days.

By the way I know this is off topic but how do I see if I won the hypernet thing I now have a small addiction after someone advertised in rookie chat.

:skull_and_crossbones: It’s a good scam as far as I’m concerned. There is a whole mega thd somewhere about how it’s gambling in game. It’s not my cup of tea so I cant give any advice on it.

Eh its not that bad I can’t make myself spend more than 1m in one place but just another interesting thing. There are so many levels and things to do I went on my first trip to jita and saw 7 people get ganked and eventually got ganked myself after selling my stuff.

At least you got to sell 1st! How is your corp treating you?

You joined in basically the middle of the “Age of Chaos”. CCP is trying to rebalance the game. It’s a tough time for all. I expect it to last apx another yr.

That being said, it takes a while to even learn EVE. So don’t worry about the short term gain. If your hanging on during these times, then you will thrive when it ends!

Yea my corp is treating me well. We are evicting a group that lived in a c5 wormhole for like 3 years. Not that I know how thats possible but oh well.

Oh wow is that what the trivalgian thing is about?

Yea I will try and stick around. Its a lot of fun and the community is great too. I dont know what that corvette girl person wants with me but I hope I can scare them off by talking big and pretending I have more than 200m.

Not sure if it will work but I can always try. At this point I think that they believe I have billions and that I am an alt of some rich guy so I have to see what happens. After all if I do happen to go to war against them, due to their massive gap in experience and resources, it will have to be of information as I will not survive large encounters of any kind. I did make an alt yesterday that I can use to stay in their corp though.

The fact that you had to create bookmarks EVERYWHERE that you planned to travel to frequently, 15km past each gate, just so you could land at zero… is lost on almost everyone.
