No I’m not running Catalina. I’m running High Sierra on a MacBookPro 2011.
And I only get the ‘error-message’ after I close the Launcher, it’s not crashing as in really stopping unexpectedly, I tell it to. And it closes fine. Why on earth it gives the message when it already has closed is a little mystery…
I’ll try ;later to put the originally deleted wine-folder back and see if I can get it run again on the 1-frame-per-10-seconds, so I can at least start my training queues again. My Multiple character training has by now run out, so I assume all training has stopped now, on all characters, like it does when an omega subscription runs out.
I should probably pat myself on the back for not putting more money in a not working game I suppose. Or at the very least a game that may stop working any moment un update is pushed…
Update: I managed to dig up a wine folder from the trashcan (from 19 september) that actually lets me log-in. As soon as I undock though it’s the 10seconds/frame again.
Well at least I can set my training queues. And luckily when the MCT ends, the main character keeps training. So at least that’s something I’ve learned from this.
But please CCP / @GM_Mechanic : Fix this ASAP, as I can’t play. And like last time, I have storylines I need to finish. And other missions which wil give me negative standing if I don’t complete them in time
I finally managed to reproduce this issue. To resolve this issue I had to do the following.
Start the launcher.
Click on EVE launcher in the apple menu at the top left corner of the screen.
Select preferences.
Enable ‘Run clients with 64 bit’.
Make sure that ‘Use Dev version’ is not enabled.
Make sure wine version is set to latest.
Click Ok.
Close the launcher and the client if either is running.
In finder, click Go to Folder and copy paste the following:
Delete wine
Delete resfiles. (be warned this will cause a big download on launcher restart )
Start launcher. Launcher should no longer allow you to start before wine has been downloaded.
I reproduced this a few times and then tried the fix in various ways, the workaround above resolved the issue. The error in log lite will be the following error.
Thanks, that worked as far as logging in with the 64-bit client.
However the frame rate is still bad: 1 frame per 2 seconds. After undock. While in station (after log-in) it’s fine. When redocked it’s bad as well.
So it seems that the original issue (for which the forced 32-bit log-in was a workaround) still persists. On my machine at least.
I still have all graphic setting on potato-mode.
@GM_Mechanic Forcing the reinstall and the latest client 1585794 seem to have resolved all my 64-bit related issues (black background, high quality graphics settings). Have not tried to switch to 32-bit (since no need at this point).
@Doorn_en_Distel I just tried on my MacBook mid-2014 (16Gb, NVIDAI GeForce) now on Catalina and I’m getting 15-20 fps in space (40-50 in station) using medium to low graphic settings.
Thanks, perhaps I will upgrade to Catalina one of theses days. I had postponed it due to EVE, but since it has become unplayable, again…
But it gives me the opportunity to ask what all the boxes in the preference screen actually mean: x Download everything: I think the default is YES (ticked), but to what does it actually refer? x Run clients with logging: this refers to running with LogLite, right? Or is there more to it x Run client with DX9. Should I or should I not? (I’ve test and tried, but for the persisting problem it doesn’t matter. When EVE did work, I ran with DX9 (I think)) x Run client with 64 bit: Well, I know what that means by now x minimize tray on close: I think I know what that means too. x ignore certification errors: What is that?! I think default is OFF. Why would I want to ignore? What does it ignore? x use system configuration for proxy: That is ON (by default). Why do I need this? What does it do? x enable high DPI scaling: I guess that’s only if I use a high end monitor, right? It’s OFF. x enable hardware rendering: It’s OFF. I would only use that if I would have a high end dedicated gaming video-card, right? Not the build in videocard of my laptop.
It appears as if many Mac users are experiencing problems as a result of recent updates. If I can add this thread to the list which brings in users of legacy iMacs - many unable to update to Catalina or earlier OS(s). Launcher no launching
Personally have now not been able to get an active game for more then 3 days.( on 3 omega accounts) . despite numerous tweaks suggested by the forums … and possibly now 100gbs of downloads following assorted file deletions and ‘resets’.
I will also add the three accounts will have lost the opportunity to qualify for the ‘free’ skill points on offer as a result of the latest skilling spree.
It is also worth noting many hours now have been spent on this problem … whilst waiting for stuff to happen or be applied.
Please can you look into the assorted mac issue with vigorous determination. Thank you in advance.
I filed a support ticket, and all I got was the message that it ‘had been fixed’ and I should use the same fix posted by GM Mechanic here. Even though in this thread it was soon established additional actions were necessary…
I’m now forced to go down the horrible uninstall/reinstall path. I can only do this now that the Bonus skill point log-in week has been completed, since I very much doubt (based on passed experience) that I would be reimbursed if this fails and I cannot log-in at all.
So this is a full week of not being able to play the game on my Omega account (and some alpha accounts, which I’m very hesitant to upgrade to Omega given past month’s experiences).
I’ve been playing for a year now, and I couldn’t understand the hostility sometimes expressed to CCP on these forums.
I’m beginning to get some understanding for it now, alas.
Communication is horrible (i.e. absent for days on end) and this issue that raised it’s ugly head over a month ago is still not fixed.
A big from me, and I DO expect sufficient compensation for lost play-time and all the efforts I have to put in to fix it without adequate information and guidance from CCP staff.
I learned my lesson when Mojave came out. Issues after issues after issues which are still present up till today. So I didn’t update to Catalina knowing there will be more issues again that will make the game unplayable. It was a good choice because seems like Catalina doesn’t support 32-bit and with the 64-bit client of eve in its current state players will be stuck between a rock and a hard place.
It’s getting weirder and weirder:
So I have this industry character hanging around in Bhizheba. I can still produce and sell, since I don’t have to undock, and there are no problems as long as I stay put. (as many other players have said.)
Now I sometimes undock to get my 10k SkillingSpree. Surprise surprise: for tree days in a row now it’s all working fine. No slow FPS.
However, my combat alt in the same system HAS ‘lag’ and a terrible frame rate. He is on a different account.
The other characters on the account of the industrial character (of which this is one), who are not in Bhizheba, have terrible ‘lag’ as well.
Now, the settings on all these characters are the same, i.e. ‘vanilla’, since I reinstalled. The only changes I have made was to set (all accounts) to the lowest graphics a.k.a. ‘potato mode’.
Now I could try to ‘trouble-hunt’ by using LogLite for example and/or try to test other systems, but since I don’t get any replies on my tickets, and CCP is also frighteningly silent in all the threads that are spread around the forums that are all (apparently) reporting the same thing, I will not bother at the moment.
The first time EVE working I thought it was a glitch, but three days in a row? Albeit just one character out of many?
BTW: I’m running 32-bit.
I hope to hear something soon from CCP.
Update 4 November:
OK, my two characters in Bizheba hav NO problems (in potato-mode) when undocking from a (player owned) structure. They both HAVE problems when undocking from a NPC-station.
Other characters (notably one that is on the same account as one of the above) still has problems when undocking from a structure in another system/region in EVE.
Again another character has problems when undocking from one structure, but is fine when undocking from another structure in the same system.
The launcher is still an issue. This seem to be a common problem for the last few weeks. Every update is an adventure.I would also like to add i have tried everything posted so far with no results. I am running macOS Catalin Version 10.15.1Help?
I am also running mac OS Catalin Version 10.15.1. The launcher no longer works. I have tried 32 bit client and 64 bit client. I have also manually selected the latest version of wine.
Hi those struggling with 64, I’d appreciate a update to judge whether ccp has this to a point where someone without hours of fiddle time to burn might sensibly risk switching to the 64bit client on a mac?
