How to Retain Players in EVE

And homefronts are nice, but not something anyone can do/want to do/enjoy doing. Plus multiboxers are farming these nonstop for very high ISK/h on basically demand as, despite the lower pupularity (if we exclude multiboxers) they spawn in large numbers usually in few specific systems in region.

That being said. I understand the CCP logic. Highsec is popular, majority of the players are there and they will unlikely quit or complain. So they are probably trying to make changes that would motivate them to wander into low/null/wh. Which can however never be fruitful effort because these players are there mostly for the safety reasons.

Also, null sec players are better organized and more vocal as they play in large corps that follows orders. So when they are unhappy about something like blackout they mass unsub or mass complain on reddit and they get what they want. Whereas highsec is full of small corp and solo players who will never unite for common goal.

Running Abyssals in Poinen, Bagodan or Isanamo is asking for trouble. If you run a trace within dscan range of any celestial, you are asking for trouble. Like that one Gila in Outuni that died 1k km from a gate? You can get really nice deep safe spots from missions or even better Incursions. You are very safe in those.

If you have no knowledge about something then you should not spout such nonsenses as a facts.

EVE is not the only one nor first game with full loot on the market.

If we exclude Ultima Online and Runescape which are still running to the degree but are old, outdated and not that popular, then there are Rust and dozen of its clones. And the most popular one is Albion Online.

There is also some Mortal Online 2, but I don’t know this game nor how popular it is.

EDIT: There was and probably still is Fallout Online - FOnline, but I stopped playing that ong time ago and didn’t check what happened to it later. But it seems to be still running.

None of those are full loot everywhere, which is what I wrote. UO has Trammel, Runescape has the Wilderness (?), Albion has red and black zones etc., in Rust I can spin up my own map to try things out and there are safe zones, and so on.

While they do always harm high sec, because it seems pushing players out that don’t like to play in Null is a good idea.

The overall nerfs hits everywhere also null. It is not high/low/null/WH that has the focus, it is keepign a few top incomers happy, and nerfing everyone’s elses income and possibility they enter top.

Recent mining changes and blueprint cost increases fx.

Argumenting with Trammel is like saying EVE is not full loot everywhere either because it has Echoes.

Same with Rust. That you can make your own sever and play it alone (for what purpose lol?) doesn’t mean it is not full loot.

Viridian expansion, June 3/2023

  • Homefront Operations
  • Lancer Dreadnoughts
  • Corporation Projects
  • SKINR for structures
  • Corporation LP, Evermarks

Lifeblood Expansion, Winter 2017

  • Resource Wars

? Expansion, 2016?

  • Anomic Missions

So 3 high-sec specific features in the last decade, one of which is dead, another abused by multiboxers and botters and the last at the top of everyone’s “nerf high-sec income” list.

Those are workarounds for victims that incidentally also make the suspect flag irrelevant, regardless of space, yes? The safest way to run abyss is in your null-sec home system with intel channels or like your high class home wormhole. Why would you make that point?

This is actually a perfect example, imagine a Rust map that has been going on for two decades, and you’re now joining it. That’s what playing EVE as a new player is. Except in Rust I can spin up a server and learn the rules or practice skills, actual player skills, not CPU Management V, or try things out without risking expensive stuff, but Singularity has been closed because CCP isn’t capable of providing an isolated test server that doesn’t leak intel like moon compositions etc.

Moving goalposts. Okay. How many new player were using test server when it was still available? Almost none. Veteran players used it to test new high end PVE without risking their ships or were learning ganking without losing security status. Then there were about dozen or so players who played there instead of main server because they could do in null what they wouldn’t be able to do normally or simply to avoid the non-consensual PvP same as these players who never left the tutorial map in GW.

Never ever was a new player instructed by anyone to go there and test stuff. Why would he? Nothing that new players do requires testing. The hidden mechanics like docking spawning you ±2500m from 0 is not something that new player figures out on test server. That is something he learns about the first time he is ganked, unless someone explains him this mechanic first and then he don’t need to go to test server to try it. Why would be?

Add some color to the UI. Most players probably dont want a winter depression when they play.

These are not workarounds, these are normal safety measures for uninterrupted PVE enjoyment. Plus: If you run Abyssals in the wrong system and get suspect flagged because of it, you are also doing it wrong and only attract the attention of gankers because they know what you are doing. With just a little bit of planning, you are nigh immune to the kind of ganking that happened to all of the kills in your screenshot. The same kind of safety measures have to be taken in Null sec because combat probing your trace, waiting for you with bombers or BLOPS and ambushing you before anyone of your blob can respond, is a typical engagement on a trace.

You also need a deep safe or remote system to run them safely. The difficulty in Null is that you cannot easily get a deep safe. Anoms never spawn far away from planets, Sleeper Caches only at most 6 AU away and Incursions are very rare. In contrast, in high sec you just need to go through a few L1 combat missions to get some really nice un-dscan-able, secluded spots, in particular in systems with certain characteristics.

This is something that the community fitting could have solved. Instead we got some nullsec overview as a default with not only no colors but also full white background for everyone. Horrible and probably worse than the old clean one.

Oh yeah, I could run missions in some remote 0.5 until I get a spot far enough from any celestial, then run abyss and hope the locals don’t catch on by seeing me undock a Gila or a random MTU hunter comes across my trace, or I could just do a dungeon in any other game unmolested and not lose stuff worth two subscriptions to some psychopath’s Coercer squad. Tough decision.

Tough decisions indeed. This is what makes EVE the game it is supposed to be. Normal PVErs in their Marauders and other Mission ships have to make these decisions every time they get a new mission. You as Abyssal runner have the luxury that you do not need to go to stations at all to get your PVE content. You can remain mostly unseen from any easily accessible spots.

This gave me a few ideas, thanks! (if I ever get back into Abyssals)

I hope that CCP does not read this and nerfs these missions by reducing their spawn distance from celestials.

It’s telling that the top two suggestions are reducing the subscription price and not focusing all development on null-sec. I bet if CCP focused an expansion solely to high-sec and the new player experience (not Freelance), they’d actually see a sharp increase in both new players and Alpha conversions to Omega.

I believe this already happened a long time ago, I’m not aware of any missions spawning outside of 4 AU from any celestial. Deep safes were possible a few weeks ago with the Observatory Infiltration sites, and may still be possible with Incursion sites, although, you know, Exploit Notification - Crazy Deep Safe spots! | EVE Online

I want to sympatize with the abyssal runners but then I remembered. Carebears ruined @Githany_Red. Let the Salt Flow
 They was the forces that minimizes Suicide Ganking in HS but Their Efforts was drained to the sewer. I also wasted donating numbers of destroyers and bombers to the AG’s. Every successful Ganking that’s happening in HS are so sweet and well deserved..
