hahahahahaaaaahahahha!!![exclamation point]
Putting a jail in EVE Online is like putting a small garbage can INSIDE a big garbage can!
But seriously . . . can you think of a better, alternative solution?

We can also fine criminals by having CONCORD transfer their money and assets directly to their victims?

You want to punish what can simply be avoided. Can you think of ANOTHER solution?
If there was trash in your garbage can, how would you solve that problem?

I would let my mom take care of it?

Trash in your garbage can isn’t actually a “problem”. Neither is lowlife, scumbags in EVE Online.

Scumbags are a problem everywhere.

In real life, they get punished by being sent to the gallows to be hung (or at least sent to jail to rot in a cell for decades). That’s the defense that polite society has against malicious, anti-social actors.

What do we have in EVE? The theoretical ability to shoot someone who’d flashing red that can’t be realized in practice because they undock to an insta, warp to their target, and kill it before any response can be made? That doesn’t work, and you know it. Piracy is great as a game concept, when you can respond to it realistically.

If EVE were real life, what do you think would happen when someone “suicide-ganks” an innocent citizen? Do you think that they would wake up in a place like the Emperor Family Academy and be approached by some chancellor and told that their next Thrasher is ready for them in the hangar? No, they would wake up in a clone surrounded by three dozen marines with heavy pulse rifles, and taken away to court in one of those things that were used to wheel around Hannibal Lecter.

In this game, you can assault someone like in real life, but the law can’t detain you? That makes no sense.

I can see you are struggling with it and I greatly appreciate your effort.

If scumbags everywhere are a problem, then how does putting them in JAIL solve the situation? Jail is part of everywhere.

I want to add one thing to make things clear:

I do not think that the process should be automated. Players kill players, and players should punish players. As such, the jails would be player-administered. It would take other players to capture criminals, and transport them to the jails.

Jailbreaks would also be possible.

Eve already has jail. It is the 15 minute criminal timer.

Ah, here we go, good old straw man.

I think you’re going to have to define “scumbag.” I view a “scumbag” as a murderer/rapist/capital thief, and not someone who leaves their burger wrapper on the table instead of putting it into the trash before heading out of the restaurant.

It’s a one-size-fits-all punishment that doesn’t really work. It might be too much punishment in some cases, and too little in others.

So we need to appoint player juries to decide on the perp’s sentence?

If you fell into a garbage can, I wouldn’t install a garbage can in the garbage can to separate you from the garbage.

For simplicity’s sake probably not, as kill records are essentially public, and punishment can have a sliding scale. Also, players wouldn’t be impartial in this regard (you don’t put crime victims on the jury).

I have exactly 0 clue what you’re talking about right now. Like most griefer psychos, you seem to have taken asphalt damage to the head. How’s that for a straw man?

If we have a jail then we should have a gallows. Three strikes and permadeath!!!

The only reason I don’t think that would be a valid gameplay mechanic is because the “murder” of another capsuleer isn’t permanent. Killing someone in EVE is more akin to severe assault, rather than murder.

Funny, I always thought it was more like taking somebody’s piece in checkers.

Sounds to me like you might have some mental issues. You are causing destruction and suffering, but in your mind, you imagine that you’re playing a cute little game. You really remind me of the Pyro from Team Fortress 2:

It always did seem odd that the Retriever and Venture pilots getting ganked never seemed to be having as much fun as I was.

Things that make you go hmmm.

Just yesterday the broken brained gang were chewing cud off topic as they often do. And what was it they were prattling on about, you ask? Why, how they need to start a thread just like this one to stir things up as they were getting bored of spending all day jerking each other off.

And here it is. New character. First and only thread posted in. Bringing up CODE. Pretending to be new but posting like he’s familiar with the game.

Seems legit.
